hah well, considering there are now 5 files per chapter, and at standard quality (high), anywhere from 1-3MB in size, roughly, that's potentially 5-15MB per chapter download... I don't think any non-business would be up to hosting that kind of bandwidth Razz

maybe a really low quality mp3 (really low) so each full chapter could be 1-5MB, possibly... but they would have such a quality loss... <shrug>

Considering the sizes the chapters come to already and them being wav files I don't think it'll be much of an issue.. everything's at like 56kbps..

Guys, I wouldn't be surprised if there is something related to the audio files on the collector's edition of Halo2. I mean, the audio DOES sound like it can be from a cartoon. **crosses fingers**

Although, that would be one LONG-ASS cartoon.

ah but they aren't wav files... they are mp3's already just named as wav files. A wav file of the quality you're hearing would be FAR larger than 2 mb. look at the headers to the files. No sir, they are mp3's. Lowering the quality and resaving would simply destroy the immersive believability of the sound files... would it be worth the loss? that's the question. Estimate 10MB per chapter download in one file, consider 100's, if not thousands of visitors per month, and 10 chapters each... umm ya... maybe MS wouldn't mind hosting that Smile.

Or, convert them to 30 minute low quality mp3's to around 3-4MB each, that's quite a quality loss... even then it's not a small bandwidth issue... serving audio/video files on a non-profit website is still not a cost-effective choice these days... hopefully sometime in the future, but right now... Confused

Weephun got $250+ rather quickly, just by asking for help, thebruce. I'm sure, if you wanted help to host something like this, people would be happy to help out here. If I had a credit card, I'd be on Paypal and offering. Smile

well that's not so much the problem... I get my site free with my work, which is an ISP, and I know I've already waaaay overshot the standard minimal hosting plan Laughing I now have 3 websites with my company. It's not about me hosting it, it's about anyone hosting it in general who isn't already putting big $$ into their hosting...
I mean, even considering all the photo galleries I've got on my own personal site, I've got a couple hundred MBs of images alone... and even with the kind of bandwidth pulled with all the traffic I have on my site, it still wouldn't match the boost in traffic of hosting 10 highly popular 8 to 10MB+ sound files, for an indefinite amount of time... Smile

I'll make another post in the general/updates forum now since this is a general thing, and technically it's updates even though the game has ended and it's not anything official Razz
