Bittorrent ISO of the DVD? Anyone?

In case my email request doesn't make the cut. Would anyone be willing to share a .bittorrent?

I would be very grateful!

When I am grateful I do this <8-D

I don't think you'll have to worry about it too much. My guess, the DVD will be ripped and shared before the night is up.

Have we learned nothing from the piracy of the French Version of Halo 2?

Mad Mad Mad

If I see ripping the DVD being discussed, I will be emailing the names & available information for identification to the PMs and Microsoft's piracy department.

Piracy is illegal, and I believe that the use of shockingly excessive force is the best deterrant.

Evil or Very Mad

PS, there is a legal way to acquire your copy of the DVD, so there is no excuse.

Hey, you don't have to jump down my throat. I'm flying from GA to Chicago to get mine. I'm just saying that regardless of intentions, someone, somewhere, will probably rip this DVD. Since I'm clean, you can send my name to anyone you wish. Now can we get off of all of this ugliness and resume playing nice?

Well... you know... Good luck to you and to Microsoft with that campaign. I'm sure you'll all have no trouble justifying the sales lost on a freely distributed disc.

BTW, in the U.S., it's not a violation of copyright to download (or copy) anything you can find. It's illegal to upload (i.e., make it available or copy it) copyrighted material. Since the DMCA, it has been illegal to circumvent the copy-protection (if any) on a DVD, even if you would otherwise be legally entitled to make a copy of it.

Anyway, enjoy that bounty check from Gates and Ashcroft. Maybe, they'll invite you to join their forum, eh?

Sorry, I don't mean to jump down your throat. You just happened to say the words that I wanted to quote. I am upset at people who want to rip something that is clearly being made available in quantity for those who want it.

All they have to do is send an email to Dana and she will make arrangements after the 4th to fill the orders of anyone who cannot arrive at one of the 4 live events or 27 cache locations.

I'm supremely pissed at the lurkers and leeches who have done nothing to further this game or contribute to the community (not you ROBO, obviously) and are now wanting free swag because they think OMGWTFBBQ!!!!11!!!!!1!!!1!!!!!!1111!!oneoneone "fr33 H410 7w0 r3l3as3 0n t3h DVD!" or some other cryptic elite mentality that makes them think that they should get stuff before those in the community should or instead of them (those of you who have posted in the last few days know who you are)

And most importantly, back to point one. This is copyrighted material and there are legal channels for distribution if people would take the time to engage those, they would get a copy. Instead we have a lot of 1337 h4x0rz who are ripping it because they are (a) lazy and/or (b) enjoy the thrill of sodomizing someone else's work by distributing illegally.

Evil or Very Mad

So, to say it in the "nice, fluffy, family rated way:"

"Please everyone who wants the DVD, use the proper channels to request it. There are plenty of copies we've been led to believe, and there is no reason to risk breaking the law to obtain something that is freely available if you just ask."

Now I will go back to being upset at the n00bs and leeches and 1337 h4x0rs.

Well what about people who wanted to participate, and have been tracking this thing since the beginning, but haven't been able to participate at all? I've been following this form outside the US since the start, hoping to be able to contribute, this being an internet thing. So it turns out all physical events happen in the US. And the finale is in the US. And only US residents get their hands on the DVD.

Is there a legal way for me to get my hands on one? Is Bungie going to ignore all overseas ARG & Halo fans?

I feel you on that. I hate the "entitlement" attitude as well. I'm glad I didn't have to pull rank on you. I guess I'll have to call off the army of lawyers with the large stacks of paperwork with sharp teeth. Wink

Let's just kick some ass (or in my case, get my ass kicked) tomorrow in peace and harmony.

As I have said in other threads, and even in this one. Many. Many. Many. Times. If you want swag, put your name on the list, and I will swipe as many as I can. The overseas people who have been contributing to the community are among the top on my list to get swag to. (read: the DVD at the bare minimum)

I think it highly unfair if the PMs do NOT mail you guys a DVD, but I won't risk it: if I can get extra swag, I'll send people stuff because they have been participating and helping out.

IMHO answering Axon's is not the only way to help.

Put your name on Phaedra's list and hope that we have enough SWAG contributors to get your stuff. If that doesn't work, then there's always emailing Dana a request the way thebruce did (and he's in Canada).

Remember, there were Axon's in England/UK, they'll probably [SPEC] send some swag to other countries. Halo was, and Halo 2 is about to be, a world wide phenomena. I expect the worst that some people will face is being forced to pay their own shipping.

Good luck on getting some swag yourself, and I hope you take my advice and put your name on the list here and on Dana's list on or after Nov 4th.

[HIJACK] You do realize that the rumor abound is that you and I will get to play against each other on Live tomorrow night, yes? So that means you can take out any of your aggression against my SPARTAN avatar.

Cool [/HIJACK]

thoughts on copyrights

if we can limit ourselves to this particular fact situation:

downloading the waves for your personal use is ok

copying them to distribute is not ok

copying the DVD to distribute is not ok

that being said: is it possible or likely DVD will be ripped? maybe, but no one has advocated it here.

if Mazian or someone else turns a "DVD ripper" in..is it likely Microsoft or anyone else will pursue such "DVD ripper"? who knows...

would Microsoft win a copyright infringement suit against the "DVD ripper"? yes

would Microsoft win damages? depends on if they planned to sell it, if the DVD ripper sold it and other stuff....

do other penalties apply? perhaps.

M$ and Bungie may encourage us to copy

You know, this whole ILB is part of a virul marketing campaign, where the players are intended to attract other players and buyers for Halo 2. I expect Microsoft to hand out the DVD's and encourage us to copy them at will. After all, that will just create more interest in Halo 2, at no expense to Microsoft.

expectation is not fact. at this point, there is no reason to believe MS wants people to copy and distribute. So don't.
