I had been sending stuff ever since noon when the stuff appeared..once we found out the password, and the probe was sent by someone else, i decided it would be a good time to give the princess a kiss and awaken her.. so attach means kiss in his language, so he kissed her..and it's all history from there. It was great teamwork, i'm happy to be the one that ended it Smile

well, if, like me, you've been watching/helping the puzzle thread all afternoon, it wasn't.... seeing when the flea changed his output, then reading WHO sent him the command was really cool

Yes, but in the A.I. game, we saw the practical consequences to a really tough ending puzzle. The last one of that game involved using a contour plot to sculpt a set of islands which, viewed from the correct angle, spelled out a password. Unfortunately, it really didn't work well at all - and our struggles threatened to extend the game past its intended deadline. The PMs eventually had to give us the password by another means.

The pressure to finish this game on time is obviously tremendous, compared with the previous one. So, not surprising that we get a puzzle that can be solved in a predictable time frame. (I only wish that the PMs had had a little more faith in our - well, your - abilities to solve puzzles.)

I understand, I just feel that since my interaction with Melissa was live, I'm used to her as a speaking character, not a writing one, and spoken dialogue has a lot more immediacy and emotional impact than written words, which is why the Princess' death was so wrenching.

The tragic relationship between Melissa, Durga and the SP seemed to me to be the *emotional* heart of the story, even though it wasn't the center of the plot -- I guess I just really wanted to *hear* it.

Yes, but if you think about it, this part of the wrap is quite poetic... we ended up having to recreate the process the SPDR used to restore Melissa, only it was the Flea doing it to restore the Princess... I don't know if they honestly inteded it to go so fast, or if they specifically had the length set so it would happen today... <shrug> but it closes the circle and makes for a great story, IMO

Understood. (For me, the emotional heart has been the relationship between Jersey and Durga, or Kamal and Sophie - but I didn't have an opportunity to participate in the Melissa side of the game; I could only follow along.)

Just one last observation, based on a similar scenario in the A.I. game (sorry to keep going back to that, but it's the unavoidable prototype for every other ARG):

One of the most interesting interactions was between Venus, the robot who killed Evan Chan, and Cloudmaker, a boat secretly hosting an AI of unimaginable power. Venus killed Evan on the boat at sea, and of course Cloudmaker recorded it. Venus then had the option of destroying the boat completely, or leaving parts of it intact and thereby sealing her own fate as a murderer.

Venus chose the latter. We don't know why. One of the most interesting characters from the game, Sencha (a shadowy Japanese businessman tied into the story), ponders this confrontation in the minutes leading up to his death by assassination.

Sometimes, it's better to hint at something this fascinating than to play it in all its glory. How do you think the SP/Queen melding occurred?

It wasn't exactly the same as the SPDR process.
I made the mistake of duplicating the SPDR's exact rebuild process to send to the flea, with no success. For example, when the SPDR found the damaged security process, he attempted "!handshk" after "dmg unk".

But, it all worked out in the end, so...Woo and I guess Hoo.

well, not *exactly*, and it wouldn't be exactly the same anyway... but my point is the parallel between SPDR/Queen and Flea/Princess is quite noticable... good writing
