There is a new code on the site...

33:01:45:66:23:22;1010:78;01:89:1011:45:99:23;
56:23:1213;910:23:12:78:77:22;
01:1010:1010:23:67:88:1010;45:77;
1010:44:99:23:23;22:01:1213:910;

This is all on one line in the site

Place all numbers from second message in numerical order. Assign letters in alphabetical order, ommitting B, J, V, W, X, Z which do not appear in message. This gives us

GAILED TO AQUIRE KEY SECOND ATTEMPT IN THREE DAYS.

I assume it should be FAILED.

So what do we do now?
R. I. Barnica?

Further

And the first one seems to be
WE HAVE FOUND THE KEY,
but much garbled, so it looks like

WH HAVE G_UND THF _FX
if you translate using the same key.

I am missing the pattern here. Lots of letters are incremented by 1 in alpha order, then others aren't. Most are repeated several times so it looks like it is a definite sub cypher with a few mult possibilities thrown in and a typo or two. Nice work Ribarnica! Here's the listing of them so far.
Code:

A 01
B
C 12
D 22
E 23, 32, 44
F 33
G
H 44
I 45
J
K 56, 101
L 66
M 67
N 77
O 78, 105
P 88
Q 89
R 99
S 910
T 1010
U 1011
V 1111
W 1112
X
Y 1015, 1213
Z

The pattern is easy.

For two digit nrs: Add the first and second digit.
For three digit nrs: add the firt digit to the last two digits.
For four digit nrs: add the first two digits to the second two digits.
The resulting nr is the nr of the letter in the alphabet.

so 1112 becomes 11 + 12 = 23 = w
and 910 becomes 9 + 10 = 19 = s
and 44 becoms 4 + 4 = 8 = h

like this:
Code:

01   a   1
101   b   2
12   c   3
22   d   4
23   e   5
32   e   5
33   f   6
105   f   6

44   h   8
45   i   9

56   k   11
66   l   12
67   m   13
77   n   14
78   o   15
88   p   16
89   q   17
99   r   18
910   s   19
1010   t   20
1011   u   21
1111   v   22
1112   w   23

1015   y   25
1213   y   25

That gives me:
failed to aquire key second attempt in three days
and
wh have ffund the bey

The mistakes in the second message are because the PMs added 101 as 10 + 1 = 11 = k while I did 1 + 01 = 2 = b
and they did 105 = 10 + 5 = 15 = o in stead of 1 + 05 = 6 = f

Keeping that in mind the message becomes:
wh have found the key

Wow! That is clever! I did a more brute force approach using frequencies of letters (overal, initial, final, and paired) matched with (an apparently mistaken) and then filled in alphabetically from there. Oh well, got me far enough to suggest the tru solution, so I guess that's something! Laughing

Pure SPEC at this point, but do you think someone at the historical Society could be passing messages to another accomplice?

Perhaps they are referring to the book Marcus was working on?

I would say yes to both. Well I guess someone has access to the webpage and is posting those messages. It is possible that someone else is doing it. However, with the history of the historical society employees, I wouldn't be suprised.

I think it very likely they are talking about the book Marcus was studying.
The first message showed up when we learned from andrews journal about the book. wh have found the key
The second message appeared after they raided marcus' study. failed to acquire key second attempt in three days

My conclusion is that they will try to steal the book again next saturday!

More spec here:

A group of people have the stolen books and are trying to perfrom some sort of ceremony from them. This is what led to the animal mutilations. It didn't work, and then they discovered that Marcus might have the book that holds the KEY to their plans. At that point they kidnapped Marcus trying to get information about the book, and when he did not talk, they tried to steal it from the house.

They are passing messages using the historical Society website.

Anyone know why the word "Ducky" is there when you open the building picture in Notepad?
Also, (and let me stress that I know very little about programming) does the string of "2" mean anything when you do the same for the books picture?

Ducky tag

The Ducky you speak of is a tag that is inserted usually when someone has used photoshop on a photo. It could be something added to the pic, but it could also be something simple like just a crop or a resizing of the image.

I will say now that I am in no way a photoshop expert , so this is how it was explained to me, but if you are thinking "ducky" is a keyword, it is not.
