(META) Microsoft Chatter Protocol?

If Microsoft were Sony, they'd use ILB to launch a line of cellphone/PDAs based on Chatters in Halo2. (see: Final Fantasy Cellphones) I doubt that MS would do such a thing (as they are not Sony), but still, it'd be quite cool.

Of course, if they used ILB to sell us a console system, a game, and a cellphone/PDA... it sure would give the anti-ARG crowd more reason to rail against ARGs.

They already have one. The Microsoft smartphone is sold in Europe. Although MS doesn't manufacture the handsets themselves, they use partners. Don't know if they'll try it in the US, depends on how it goes over there.

No, I mean a device themed to "look like" a Halo2 chatter (assuming we ever see one in Halo2), with a distinct Halo2 theme to it.

Meh, I seriously doubt any such thing would exist.

I live in Europe and I've never seen anything called a smartphone.

(Ok I don't actually live in Europe, I live in the island just to north west of Europe. We're still in the EU though.)

Let me guess. Since it is Microsoft:

1. It costs twice as much as everyone else.
2. Uses proprietary code.
3. has a bloated protocol with a mess of extra unneeded stuff to make it harder to design compatible systems, but which doesn't add any function.
4. It has lots of features, but most of them no one cares about.
5. The ones people do care about are support for like Outlook Light or something, which means IE is probably in there some place and you r phone will get viruses.
6. You will have to upgrade to Smartphone XP next year, which will look cooler, add even more junk you don't need and has to be patched 12 times before it stops crashing for no reason in the middle of a phone call. (The first 11 patches will of course introduce other bugs, but not fix the original crashing issue.)

Not that I am biased against any of their software or anything.... I use it all the time and fully expect to have to reboot my current computer 3-4 times before it starts properly. Of course I could buy XP and then get stuck with all the same problems that people who play muds have with SP2 (most refuse to install it due to some of the 'fixes' MS uses to limit the damage viruses can do, but also fucks up every utility or program that needs a less restricted system to work properly...) Heh, I get the choice between having every virus in a thousand miles infecting my system, while still be able to use the machine, or being unable to use it the way I want, but having a false sense of security, knowing that at least the *known* viruses can't invade. Yep, real impressive and innovative solutions from the people that redefined the second word to mean:

Innovation n - Poorly done and incomplete integration of ideas and design, which someone else has already put out on the market, so the original developer can't compete.

Actually, they are really good. I used to have the SPV E100 (i'm now on a Motorola A925 GPS mobile of much techination), and getting software for them is a doddle. Cut-down versions of office etc, media player, loads of compatible software...

Basically, it's a cut-down windows for pocket pcs. So it's easy to develop for, and is really cool.

Oh, and did i mention that they're all either free on contract, or cost the same as any other mobile of their type?

Error 1 = Complaining about Microsoft products not working right, when using a comparitively unstable older Windows version. XP is much more stable than earlier versions of Windows, and you'll rarely have to reboot for anything.

Error 2 = Complaining about Microsoft Products not working right, when those 'mud' programs are not up to snuff. The only problem XP has given me with regard to programs is when I tried to play System Shock 2. I'm inclined to believe your Mud programs are simply not well written, and should be blamed. No program should 'need a less restricted system' to work properly.

Error 3 = Complaining about Microsoft products, when "millions of viruses" can be easilly prevented by keeping an anti-viral and anti-spyware regimine active, and installing MS-provided fixes.

To be honest, I'm surprised you didnt use the ever-boring phrase "Micro$oft".

I'm sure you could use Linux and Mozilla and all the other open-source subprograms... but you'll effectively cut yourself off of most things you prolly do on your computer. Heee.

Error 4 = complaining about Microsoft in a forum that doesn't really care, because this forums is about the ARG, not 'the man'.

adios

Right.. So all the people I know that have had problems and the guy two days ago that asked how to go about re-installing it are just delusional? The boot loader for the damn thing still uses physical addressing to find where it should load the kernel, instead of LBA. A problem that became serious due to a flaw in some BIOS and the refusal of Linux kernel 2.6 to rely on the BIOS for that information. Linux when installed over wrote the incorrect data on the disk with correct data for the partition, but Windows XP relies on BIOS to access the needed partition, which is now being passed what the BIOS thinks is a completely different location. Ooops!

Ok, it is just the boot loader, but what other outdated junk that barely works right is still buried in the rest of the OS? According to some people, quite a bit more than MS wants you to believe.

Besides, this was intended to be a joke, I can't help it if it happens to be more accurate than you want to hear.
