Ashgrove hours and nearby attractions

So, earlier this morning in chat, Nohbdy (sic) asked a good question about why ashgrove park was open on 14 Feb since that was a Friday and the park is open only on weekends.
I received this email from Brent this afternoon, which answers the question. The original email follows.

Noelle,

Thanks for your interest in Ash Grove Park! I hope you can come visit us!

Currently Ash Grove Park is only open on weekends from 10AM to 9PM with the
exception of select Holidays or special events, like our recent Valentine's Day
Cupid Celebration on Feb. 14th and the upcoming St. Patty's Day Leprechaun Fest
on March 17th. Hope you can make it to that because it will be truly magical.
The Leprechaun Fest on March 17th will go from 10AM to 7PM.

As far as other attractions in the area, here are some of my favorites that are
close by:

Martian Landing Site in Grover's Mill
Hindenberg Crash site at Lakehurst
Elsie the Cow's Grave in Plainsboro
Uniroyal Giantess in Hilltop
Capital Punishment Museum in Trenton
Clementon Lake Amusement Park in Clementon
Six Flags, Great Adventure in Jackson

Hope you find this list useful!

list

Useful how?

Anagramming the initials of each exhibit?
Are we being fed a bit of help by the PMs?
That list is a weird thing to volunteer...

I just took it as him responding to this statement in the email that was initially sent. But maybe there is reasoning behind the specific attractions he chose to include?

email

well, i had asked about other attractions in the area thinking that maybe he would point us in the direction of something that we should concentrate on, like the Lake of tears or EOTW or something. But all the places he named are real (not in game) so i think he may have just been responding to that question. But I could be wrong

Brent:
Thank you so much for your swift reply! I checked out the additional
attractions that you mentioned and I think that they will make nice 'filler'
for out trip. In your email, you mentioned the leprechaun fest for St
Patty's Day. Although we were planning to be in your neck of the woods the
following weekend, I wouldn't want to miss out on something "truly magical".
Could you please give me more information about your St. Patty's Day
celebration? I really appreciate all the help you have given me so far. Keep up the good work.
Best Regards
Noelle McHugh

Its probably not super important, but its all I've got.
Very Happy

I know this has nothing to do with the game, but Clementon Lake Amusement Park could easily be the model for Ashgrove Park. It is a small, family oriented park that specializes in parties and events. Pretty much on the same scale too. At least it was a few years ago before it added a water park.

"Hi Gwen. You have no idea who I am but I just saw the article in Gardens' Best Magazine and it appears that your prize-winning flowers seem to be making a strange hexagram pattern. Do you think this has anything to do with the BRUTAL BEHEADINGS OF YOUR NEIGHBORS last week?"

Three letters come to mind reading something like that: "WTF?"

Someone sees that, real or character, they're going to think yer a freakin' psycho. "Why would anyone think those two things could be related?" That's probably what the character is thinking unless they actually have insider info. If they don't, you've just made them think you're a nutcase and might have freaked them out to the point they clam up.

With so many emails like that being sent out left and right with little consideration of the content of the email or the mindset of the character, its a wonder more characters haven't clammed up on us like they did when they got 50 emails from Dale demonstrating his "multiple-personality disorder".

Bottomline: Try to get "into the game" by empathizing with what these characters might be thinking when they read your email and the four dozen other bizarre ones they receive. Not every character is guilty or has something to hide, they aren't supposed to know its a game and not every character is a master cryptographer with an undying need to hide information in obscure geometric/algebraic puzzles.

Think of yourself being in the THEIR world, not the other way around.

Doing so might make the game a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

zeus

thanks, z. I agree completely. There are too many fishing expeditions under different fake personas and I think it's muddying the waters instead of giving us info.

I was all for the concept of presenting the right foot forward, trying to get info, even if it meant constructing or embellishing. What I'm seeing in return is 1) it's not necessary and 2) it limits your options to participate in the future if you haven't completely thought through your character and made them multidimensional.

That said, I also agree with someone's contention in another forum that you never, ever, refer to an in game character as in game, to them. It would be nonsense.

So we tread a fine line, but it's easy and fun to do.

Imagine the following emails:

Please send me some information.

(about what?)

You don't know me, but I saw your website. What is xxxxx?

(huh?)

This is (insert ingame character), I would like access to my account.

(and the email is different from the signature)

On the other hand, some of the players have had a great time with the HUMOR:email threads and found ingame characters who have fleshed out their characters enought to have fun conversations (that may not advance the game but make it more real/immersive).

To me, this game is about immersion; it's part mystery, part puzzles, part RPG. Some players have created alter egos to fit the situation (i.e. they have a friend or relative who is psychotic, or they are a professor or reporter or student research a subject - so they have a legitimate foot-in-the-door reason for contacting the ingame character). Others have stuck close to the truth (they are part of a collective who received an email from Dale and are looking into his situation). Regardless, we are trying to keep the ingame characters as real life. I think that most players part of CD and UF are knowledgeable enough to continue this. And hopefully wishchasers and Delphi are doing the same. The wild cards in all this are the umpteen individual players out there who might find out information and not share it (but I'm sure we're covering the important parts).

It seems that if one player figures out the key email to elicit necessary info, the PMs will figure out how to make it more public knowledge, so we all advance at the same time (ala, danman_d and dashcat both got CP to devuldge the info necessary to confirm the policy number and that same night Dale's email updated making that same information public to all the other players who may not have seen danman_d's and dashcats posts - because the PMs knew where the next step would take us).

We're still less than 2 weeks into a 6 month campaign......have fun!
