[SPOILER][SPEC] The New Species - Involved? Obligatory "I searched first" disclaimer: I searched and read all 14 pages of posts that came up under the terms "hive" or "species." I am confident that this spec is valid and original. If not, please insert trout here:
Halo 2 will feature a new alien race. Bee-like, buggish, yada yada. Has anyone considered the possibilities of involvement by this third race (or fourth if you count the Forerunners as separate) in our game?
It is still a bit unclear as to the origins of the Artifact. It has been called Covenant but it could also be Forerunner due to their similarities. Is it possible that the artifact is in fact something of this new race? An enigma all to itself, [random speccish stuff, omit as necessary] capable of crashing a ship in the slipstream and separating an AI from its component processes and sending bits of them back in time while enabling them to communicate with their futuristic (from our point of view) counterpart(s)?[/rssoan]
This is just an example, however it isn't the only possibility.
More importantly, consider this question:
Do you think that the new race will have a significant impact on this story?
Remember:
-ILB is drumming up interest in Halo 2
-Some SPEC states that the endgame of ILB will directly lead in to the Halo 2 story
-The new race has been refered to as the Hive(if you can confirm this with a link please do)
Other Views(Counterpoint):
-Bungie is hush-hush about the new insect-like race. It is possible that NOTHING will refer to them before Nov. 9th, including this ARG.
-So far nothing has seriously suggested, story-wise (beyond the bee references), that this new bug species is part of ILB.

They're known as 'Drones' and look VERY much like bees, I posted a link to the article showing them, if anyone wants the link, just PM me!

Unfortunately, you did not try "insect" in your search. It is a few threads down, within this subforum. You also missed the thread in this subforum asking that all Halo 2 game related material please be posted as [SPOILER].
Don't worry. It happens to all of us at one point or another.
Could we get a title change?

All right, I'll concede "insect" is an obvious term that I neglected to include.
Gloryfish sets up a dinner plate...
Also, I was mistakenly under the impression that the third race being "insect-like" was not universally known. (However the fact that a third race exists is ).
GloryFish prepares a small dish of sliced lemons...
And yes, I did miss the Halo 2 spoiler notification request thread thingy.
GloryFish takes a rather sizeable bite of .
However, with the proper labeling, I think that my topic has value. This topic hasn't been satisfactorily(sp?) discussed. Searches under "hive," "species'" or "insect" do not yield any good results.
So, if anyone has any SPEC relating to the above underlined question, by all means, do partake.

Something to remember though, the Covenant is made up of various races of aliens. It is not one race. These new "drones" are most likely just another member-race of the Covenant army.
In the first Halo, MC encountered "Grunts", "Jackals", "Elites", and "Hunters." With a name like "Drone", I'm pretty sure it's just another aspect of the Covenant armies.

Re: [SPOILER][SPEC] The New Species - Involved? I highly doubt that the drones will have anything to do with the ILB plotline. This is for a few reasons:
1: The only connection between ILB and the drones is they are insect-like with wings. If there was to be an intentional connection, I think that the drones would have been made to look more like bees (rather than grasshoppers (think antz)) or it would have been iloveinsects or something.
2: (and more importantly) While there is a non-refutable connection to Halo 2, you have to realize that ILB has taken stories in 2 distinct timelines, that of 2552 and that of 2004. While the stories in 2552 are directly connected to Halo 2, the other parts are not. Since the bees portion of this ARG is in the 2004 timeline and there is no way that it could be involved in the speculated timewarp by the artifact, there is no implied connection to Halo 2.
3:None of the story goes into the covenet except for as the enemy of the humans. That means that the major tie-ins to halo 2 should be on the human side, not the covenent one.

I think the 'Drones' are just to confuse people (further). Bungie are running an ARG called I Love Bees, and a few weeks later some screenshots come up with some bee-like things on them. It seems like too much of a conincidence to me. I'm probobly wrong though. I often am.

A good old fashioned trout dinner, eh? Oh well..
.. on the other hand, it does have some value. Remember in Fall of Reach the MC meets a new species of the Covenant, the Scientist caste? (Just before he meets the first Hunters..?) Well, if they've got those, plus Grunts, Jackals, Hunters, Elites, Shipmasters (possibly just high ranking Elites?) and Prophets, there may well be many, many more. We'll never know for sure until the game comes out, though.

there's an old dramatic rule for writing, it goes as follows (paraphrasing):
if you show a pistol hanging on the wall in act one, it must be fired in act two
corallary:
you cannot fire a pistol in act two, unless you show it on the wall in act one
this isn't to be taken literally, just a general guideline for foreshadowing and consistency, but i think it applies here

Since when did Bungie (or game designers these days in general, anyway), play by the rules anymore? Granted, I think the idea has merit, and I think we'll find out eventually what they are, but I don't think they're the "game breakers" some people are making them out to be.

Except I remember a brief mention of them in a program about a gaming convention on G4TechTV. They where unable to actually show anything at the time, but they did mention an insect like race in the game, which looked a bit like bees. This was a bit before this ARG even started.

I doubt any new species will be introduced (outside from the subspecies Brutes) into Halo 2.
Sergeant Johnson has self-made vaccinated blood (helps put a stop to the Flood). Earth gets attacked, obviously a fight for a Forerunner artifact or Forerunner ruins (why Earth wasn't glassed, instead a fully launched planetary surface attack). It's the end of humanity and it has to be stopped. Sounds like a finale to me. I'm really curious about how they're gonna include the Flood onto Earth. Stowaways on either Covenant/UNSC vehicles. Another hidden Flood facility?
I really do no see the need to introduced another species. That and I would've been predictable anyway. I mean, we all didn't know about the Flood during the hype of Halo:CE. That was a surprise! If we're to expect something similar like that (ie: another species not mentioned or hinted at), then that would make it predictable. Like expecting the unexpected (in other words: making "the unexpected expected").
I don't think Bungie wants to hurt the Halo-verse. This is at its peak, leave it at that. The books made a fine expansion and so will this sequel game. I see this game as being the closure to the series. A fine one at that. (That's why I'm totally against the talk on Bungie.net forums about stupid fans and their conceptions of a Halo movie. Blegh! Hello? I can't think of a successful movie based on a game?)

Wing Commander was OK
Resident Evil 2 was pretty good.

I heard Nemesis is what made RE2 worth the ticket. FF: Spirit Within I called a "dumb blonde" - pretty on the outside, lacking on the in.
You also forgot "Super Mario Bros.: the movie", dumb too. I prefer the "Super Mario Bros. Super Show" and "Captain Nintendo" anyday over game-movies.
(And I love your Strong Bad avatar.)
