[OT] Seeker visits Nile Rodgers?

For those who don't know, Nile Rodgers is the Music Supervisor for the Halo 2 Soundtrack album (through his Sumthing Records label) and his site is hosting preview cuts from that album.

Well, on the front page now he's got a brief note about the collaborations on the soundtrack, and the instance of "REVEALS" in the text is bolded and in different-coloured lettering. Smile

If you've got a reasonably-quick Internet connection, it's worth a visit... there are some very nice music snippets from the album available there.

-- Steve's looking forward to picking up the album, too... hopefully he can squeeze it onto his mp3 player and make the morning commutes more fun.

Good stuff, but it's surprising they didn't use live players for this. Confused

That's just Marty's style of composition. He's stated that he likes the way synthesized Mellotron strings sound when combined with actual strings, and he's a wizard with sequenced drums (which are everywhere in the Halo 1 soundtrack).

Ahhh.

The Halo soundtrack has been driving me nuts for as long as I've been familiar with it, because I knew they couldn't just be synthesized strings (too vibrant, too cruchy -- I could actually hear some bow noise when I listened closely) and yet they didn't sound real.

It never occurred to me that they could be *both.*

Hmm... more sample tracks added this evening. I wonder if they'll keep this up until release?

-- Steve likes the "Flawed Legacy"... kinda a rescoring of "Perchance to Dream" from Halo 1.

Just thought I'd throw in that there was a great interview with Marty O'Donnell over at HBO that folks might be interested in.

Seems relevant to the thread, anyway. Smile

anyone have the Myth theme available for a listen? Hearing it described in the interview is intriguing, and I never played the game.

I don't know about finding the whole theme, but if you trigger one of the Easter Eggs in Halo you can here the piano version of "Seige of the Madrigal". Haunting stuff.

Visit this page and scroll down until you see "Assault on the Control Room" to find out how to trigger this in-game. Or, if you're lazy (or don't have Halo), here's the 1.2MB mp3 provided by Total Audio.

-- Steve is still impressed by the Halo soundtrack.

Very cool link. Thanks for the post. One of my favorite things about HALO has been the music. I'm sure it's one of the biggest reasons I enjoy the single player campaign as much as I do.
