Well as far as the DVD distribution, that was REALLY depressing. There were about a dozen people in front of me, none of whom had played the game. The ticket people thought it was the hight of hilarity to answer the pass-phrase with "no he didn't" and the first person who got one was pissed off it wasn't a free copy of Halo 2 so he threw a hissy fit and broke the disk.

SUGH.

I'm curious...

How old was this fellow?

What's probably sadder still is that these kids aren't the "hardcore" gamers. They're most likely the ones who only own (for their Xboxes, at least) Halo 1, <insert EA sports title> <insert year of choice>, Tony Hawk <insert extra words or number>, and Grand Theft Auto <something>. They don't try the more unique titles, probably would ask "What does RPG stand for?", and most likely use the word "yo", "dawg", or "homie" every few seconds.

I hate to profile here, but that's the kind of gamer I dislike. The less-than-casual kind.

which is why, instead of grouping people into groups, i've decided it's easier and less time-consuming to just hate people in general... (:

of course, this community made me change my stance on that, but i agree with you that those kind of people are just annoying and should be shot... (:

there's a penny arcade comic i want to link, but i can't find it, so i'll post it when i find it... (:

(Okay, now we're getting off-topic, but I can't help it) Tony Hawk and Jet Grind Radio came out at about the same time... both good games, but which one tanked miserably and which one got seventy bazillion sequels?! Oooogghh... (shakes with fury)

i kinda wish that the Mods would've broken the illusion just enough to say: "the dvd has nothing to do with halo 2, so if you are some jackass who is expecting a halo demo, don't bother coming."

This really pisses me off. People who dont play get the DVD (and even break it!!) while those who are near a location or couldnt make it (im the latter, just a kid but ill be damned if im one of those Halo freak bastards) are left to bite the dust. Im thinking now that the curtain has been lifted fortytwo entertainment will let us a) get it sent to is (maybe after sucessfully filling out a questionaire on the ARG) b) Paypal some money to them

Im sure i speak for all of us non able to get dvders when I say we will do alot for one. Like pay money, beg, even give up our first born chil----i mean um cover shipping?

I hear you entirely, Double-C. I enjoyed TH3, and JGR, but I can already tell you why Jet Grind tankinated: Cell Shading. Everyone over the age of 17 with less than half a working brain (see previous post for prime example) will, without hesitation, pass of anything cell-shaded as pure and utter crap, straight off the 'ass'embly line.

EDIT: Back onto topic here, people! This space reserved for people either with info on the DVD handouts or people coming back from events with news, pics, video, audio, stories, whateva!

There was a Hsu and Chan comic a few years back in which they tried to figure out just what was wrong with gaming, and in the end, suddenly a huge guy in a goatee and a "Battlestar Galactica Rulz" T-shirt that is too small for him bursts into the comic shop and says "Hey! Tomb Raider 4: Bouncin' Bahoolies is out! I don't know what it is, but it has Lara Croft on the cover! I've had it pre-ordered for three months! Let's go!"

And Hsu and Chan look at each other in bewilderment...

And this was before GTA/Hawk/Madden had a demographic of their own. (I saw a kid in the store the other day pestering his brother by saying, "Screw Bomberman! Don't be a Censored!" Sigh... such wayward youths...)

(Look at me... we're all old fogies telling the kids they need to be influenced by the classics such as Super Mario Bros. 3...)

SUGH.

Something very similar to mine. They had no idea and were very.... bored with it. Such a sad end to the story for me.

yeah... mario bros. 3... those were the days... none of this 3d cinematics stuff, just jumping on turtles and gaining the ability to throw fireballs by eating a flower... (:

oh, and this is the comic i was refering to... it doesn't really explain our situation, but it does suggest shootinng kids in the mouth, which i approve of... (:

I was NOT talking about you there.. just to clarify. I meant MY previous post.
And you pretty much redundant-ized yourself... you DO have an entire brain, and you DID like Wind Waker. It's a 2 = 2 scenario.

EDIT: TOPIC, people! Focus!! (:

I can understand why someone got so mad that they broke it. While ARGers may see ILB as a self-contained game of its own, I'd say a large percentage of the casual gamers* see it as a thing related to Halo 2.

Would I have shattered the disc? Of course not. But if I thought something would get me free stuff about Object A, I'd be pretty ticked off if I got what I considered worthless free stuff about Object B.

* And much to the chagrin of the hardcore gaming groups, they're getting larger and more important day by day.

That kinda defeats the purpose, though.. this event (and ESPECIALLY the pickup spots with no LIVE gameplay) were for us, for I Love Bees. People not involved should barely even have known, much less been expecting free stuff about Halo.

*Sigh* More idiocy, I suppose.
