I just checked the DVD, and there is no Copy Protection on the disk.

My take on the situation is that the PM's don't want us to copy and sell the disk for profit. That's obvious, otherwise they wouldn't have put the copyright tag on it. But, since the disk was free to begin with, copying it and distributing it to fellow beekeepers who were unable to get one in the first place is in the spirit of the game. People who played along with us deserve to have the disk.

My offer still stands, but depending on the general opinion of unfiction, I won't start sending copies until the PM's give the all clear.

T@2's are fun.

Anyone remember the Yahama CD-burners with the T@2 technology? Sounds like a use of it here. You know when you look at a cd that you put almost nothing on, you can see the outside ring looks like a rainbow/burned disk, but the inside looks like a mirror/unburned. What it did was take the empty space of the cd and burn "random" (read unreadable) data on the empty portion that looked an image/code/phrase/whatever when you looked at the refraction+reflection. (I love mine, they're so freakin' cool. Too bad Yahama stoped making them before they got to DVD burners. I wonder if it would work on a dual layer disk? Hey... mayybbee... One layer of this DVD is the data and the top layer is the message?) Any thoughts?

Picked up the DVD and just got back, about to watch it.

I have a DVD Burner, and if the PM's give permission, I'll send out copies to those who want them. Picked up a spindle of DVD-Rs just for this.

I asked the PMs and they said that they want people to send in a request for the DVDs.

Please do not rip their hard work.

They think that rather than go to bother of tracking down someone to go to the bother of burning me a DVD and mailing it to my, I'm going to spend all that time and effort to just e-mail they my address and get an original gratis? Well.....

Uh, what was my motivation in this scene again?

Your motivation is that the PMs read these forums and the site admins would happily turn over the IP address from which you visit this forum if so asked. Further, the admins could be forced to turn it over as part of an investigation in to a violation of the DMCA.

Your motivation is that I would happily send them (and Microsoft) your alias and your callous disregard for their work if you so much as breath about ripping their hard work.

I met these people, I looked in to their eyes and shook their hands. If you steal from your best friend, do you think you should not be punished?

Why do I feel a comparison to Thin Kinkle coming on?

The DVD says it is copyrighted. I suggest you seriously consider the consequences of a violation of the DMCA. I'd further suggest you review the punishment threatened for against those who ripped Halo 2 before it was fully released.

There is no difference, as far as the law is concerned, between ripping Halo 2 and ripping the ILB DVD.

Every CD and DVD has the mirror section with text on the inside ring, which usually identifies the manufacturer of the disc, the company that did the pressing, or, on most modern software, the name of the program on the disc. DVDs also have a barcode that gives the drive information about the type of disk (but the barcodes are often used for other purposes, such as the old Circuit City DivX disposable DVDs).

I'm not really making the case for pirating anything.

But they way the guy worded it at the training session seemed strange. I just wanted to bring that up for the sake of the argument.

That's nice. The PMs said specifically that they wanted to try to get everyone a copy of the DVD who asked for one. And they provided plenty of extras at the events to make sure that they could be passed out to people like you (or someone else) who wanted one.

This, in addition to the copyright notice, should immediately squelch all further discussion on copying.

If I hear that anyone has ripped the DVD and made it available, I will report them.

Some of you people need to come down off of your idiot horses. I was told that we were free to distribute the disc, and so I'm ripping an ISO and will be putting up BitTorrent links later on. Some of you geniuses seem to have lost sight of the fact that all of these materials were distributed freely as a marketing tool for Halo 2.

ANYWAY, here are some more pics:

Some of you didn't read the fact that I spoke with the PMs, or that the DVD has a copyright notice on it.

I'll be sending your screen-name to the PMs and Microsoft piracy group. If they don't chase you down, then I guess that's all the evidence you need that it's permissable.

But if you end up with a large fine slapped against you, please don't whine here.

Puhlease, I spoke with a PM at this event and was told exactly this: "distribute as you see fit". The copyright notice has to do with SELLING the discs for profit, which nobody is talking about doing at all.

So you do whatever you want there Captain Copyright Board Police... It's not gonna be any sweat off my balls.
