I was in Chicago a few hours ago.
In case you've never been there, it's home to the worst airport in all of humanity. LaGuardia and Kennedy are a day at the beach compared to O'Hare.
And since I'm now launching attack ads against Chicago, I might as well add that Chicago voted against funding the troops, and will raise your taxes. NYC for ARGF-O-CIV!

That's why you fly into Midway silly - everybody knows that. And we have Barack Obama!

joe. damn.
I have been an expert on hanging with people during layovers at airports. If you were there any longer than an hour, there will be hell to pay for not notifying me.
Smack-talk all you want about Chicago, but don't diss the Wellsie.
I mean, um, don't smack-talk Chicago, either.

That's a little misleading, I think any one of these locations would be "fair". By that logic, Chicago is "unfair" to anyone from NYC, Boston, Philly, DC, Baltimore, Europe, etc, and we should have ARGFest in Chicago every time.

Well, I was in the airport for an hour, then on the tarmac for another hour...so unless you're also an expert on evading airport security, it wasn't meant to be.

Out of the three choices.... it really doesn't matter. All are about the same airfare from CA
In terms of things to do, I would have to vote for NYC, but only because I've never been to either of the other places

You've got a filthy mind, Brent (which is undoubtedly why we get along so famously).

I've never been to NYC. I want to try JetBlue airlines (they fly between Las Vegas & NYC). I only have a weekend (maybe 3 day at best) and low budget for this one. I'm bringing a backpack, laptop & sleeping bag (if hubby lets me go).
I'm all for a Chicago ARGFest also. Maybe next one (since it is such a close second place).
As for all the rest, if you have a great spot and want to host at that city, put together a proposal (suggested dates, locations for reasonable cost accomodations, activities - don't forget that we like to solve puzzles) and start planning for 2006.

So do we have date for this thing or even a rough time-frame?

How about the 2nd weekend in June 2005? People can crash at my place, or we can rent a suite at the Plaza or another hotel, maybe even the Times Square Hilton, Westin, Marriot, etc. Either one. As for activities, I'd say copious drinkering would be in order whate'r happens.

Arkanstock in March (hopefully, if there is a contengent from here)
SW Celebration in April
SF for the release of SW and my b-day weekend in May
ARG Fest in NYC or Chicago (I may have to fly out friday night and get in early Sat morning)
A Cruise in June
Boy I'm going to be a traveling fool.......
now anyone want to offer me that job? I'm a great worker and live in LA!!!

New York How many days does ARGfest usually last?
One idea I had is that people could choose different activities and then meet up for lunch or dinner and drinkering....
For example: I know a place called web2zone where we could host a Halo2 (or other game) party. Also, internet access to catch up on email and work, etc. It is near Joe's Pub and the Public Theater (not sure if anything is up in June...I can get cheap tickets there if there is something we want to see.) if people wanted to do something else. After the party we could go to one of my favorite bars on 4th street, where kids and adults are welcome.
As for NYC activities: we can go to the Statute of Liberty - not a bad time on a sunny day and see some things downtown. I know that Addlepated had mentioned wanting to visit Ground Zero, which people could choose to do or not. I used to work near there and I know that bagsbee works near there now. One of the best discount stores in the world - Century 21 is there. We can also go to Chinatown for a visit and food...
I have spent almost one day a week at the Metropolitan Musuem of Art so I can give people a tour there. The Central Park Zoo is great and if people bring children the playgrounds there are really fun.
I suggest Ruby Foo's as a fun place to eat too, it seems touristy but I think we all would like it.
We can do just about anything: people can let us know what their preferences are.. but I do like this idea of letting people choose different activities and then meeting later.
I know the expense is a factor for everyone .. we can find things to do that don't cost a fortune. Many of the best parts of New York are free.
And joebrent sounds like a great tour guide. What more could you ask?

in the middle I think it is likely that people can fly into New York for about the same cost as to Chicago or Midway. (check out the Jet Blue fares). Our friends from Toronto can get to New York or Chicago pretty easily. And for our friends from Europe it is easier to come to New York.
Plus, besides Jet Blue and the Shuttle, trains run to New York from up and down the East Coast. Not to mention the inexpensive GreyHound bus route.
I think that New York is the most accessible city to the most people.
