Hey guys, I wanted to apologize for what happened in the Invite Only tonight; I thought I could trust my brother not to be a complete f*cktard and let him in as a guest, and the end result got me booted. Just wanted everyone to know that I'm not a monster or an idiot, but that my brother is. Sorry again. I feel really bad Crying or Very sad

It's all good! Very Happy We were just trying to do super-tricksy sword cancel jumps, and so it was more frustrating than anything else. We shoulda booted sooner so he'd get the message. Also, you need to get a headset, so we can hear you! Smile

Krystyn! What happened to you last night? You just dissapeared.

And is there ever gonna be a sniper training again? I need to work on my sniping skills, and would love to participate in one.

Yay to everyone who managed to ascend Headlong! I still have no clue about the wraith jump, but I'm loving the rocket lunge.

And what exactly is the sword cancel, how do you do it (I've heard conflicting reports), and what good is it? No one could seem to answer those to my satisfaction last night.

argh I missed all of it... a buddy and I were co-oping through campaign... blah... but I think my Live got disconnected during, so I wouldn't have appeared online... I know one secret about CTF on the new battle creek, but still haven't mastered any kind of grenade or wraith or rocket jumping or anything... *sigh* I'm falling behind...

and can someone send me an invite from the new Beekeepers clan? I'm still left behind in SPDR Ninjas... Razz

I got kicked by my connection or something. It took me about a half hour to get back on (roughly - I mean, I went and did other stuff, because power-cycling the xbox and rebooting the modem amounted to squat). I finally got back, but by then it was too late to rank up any further, since a bunch of people were busy playing with map 'exploits.'

Seriously, the weirdness of Burial Mounds had a sort of zen coolness to it. Floating way above the map, and running across this weird, rocky expanse and looking at the sulphurous coral-colored sky. Very trippy.

It's a weird way of tricking your lunge attack into stopping itself. We used it to jump up to the top of the main building in Zanzibar, as well as getting up certain heights in Headlong and Burial Mounds.

You've got to have someone at your destination who is an enemy, so your reticle's red. Gotta have the sword, though. Other weapons will not work. Trigger the lunge attack, and press X at the same time, and you should shoot straight for that person, without (hopefully) harming them (much). At certain heights and angles, you may need to jump before doing the simultaneous trigger/X attack. It, um, helps to empty out your stash of grenades, and whatever ammo is in your alternate weapon. I'm just sayin'.

Does that make sense? It's a bit tricky, and I found that I was being dumb at it for a while, but once you get it, it makes sense. It can be a little unpredictable. I had jumped onto the Zanzibar base a few times, no problem, and then the 3rd or 4th time I tried, I completely flew over the section of roof I was trying to land on. I don't think I did anything different that time, in terms of timing and where I jumped from.

Oh, one of the best moments from last night?

It was ... me, Spacebass, INCyr, and Papier, and we were doing matchmaking rounds. We finished a land grab round, won it, and got back to the stats screen, where some dude immediately started yelling at us that we sucked, etc. -- just as I was saying, "Good game, dude!"

So then he jumps on it, and says, "You sound like a GIRL."

I immediately sassed, "I AM a GIRL" and in the meantime my team mates are totally calling this guy a moron and backing me up, and he's sort of sputtering, so I just started laughing, and then I said, "This never fails to amuse me. Every single time."

He blurted out some invective, and left the stats screen, leaving us to our laughter.

Also, I was stupid excited to actually plant a bomb on some burial mounds assault game. True, the opposing team was disorganized, and it was actually easy to get in there and do it, but I felt like we just quickly organized ourselves, and got the job done, with minimal fuss, and I got to be important! Woo!

Any point to taking potshots from the flag pole?

I started doing it 'cause I was bored, so I wouldn't call it strategy:

Playing CTF on Colossus, the enemy is pretty close. When I'm guarding the base, I like to zoom in with the battle rifle and shoot at whoever's guarding the other base. I've never gotten a kill this way, but it seems to make them really mad. Eventually, they start shooting back with their own battle or sniper rifles. Sometimes, it seems to help my team overwhelm their defenses and capture the flag. Of course, I am likewise distracted, and I have to keep checking for unwelcome guests in my own base.

Is this legitimate strategy on Colossus or any other map, or should I just straighten up and fly right?

I love it. It really does draw their attention. One of the times you were firing and the enemy didn't even notice me running right behind him. So I ran up, grabbed the flag, hit him over the head with it, and jumped off the ledge. It was beautiful.

So, as long as you don't get clobbered in the back while you're doing it, it can be pretty helpful... Wink

Yeah, that sucks. I've been assassinated more than once while sniping the other base, because I didn't check for baddies at my own base.

Of course, there were the times when I was sniping, and they take the flag before killing me. I don't know if they didn't see me, or thought I wouldn't notice the "Blue team has your flag"... but if there's someone at the opponents base... kill them before you take the flag. It's just common logic.

Oh god, that was so great! I don't know what he was thinking, especially since Krystyn isn't exactly a neuter name... but god, he was so ticked off... it was great to hear him splutter.

Someone is going to have to show me around burial mounds and zanzibar. In return, I'll be happy to show them around headlong.
