I definitely got a kick out of rocket lunging after Banshees just so that I could jack them. I only did it maybe three times over the course of the whole night, but at one point I did it and sent CirrusStrafe into the abyss of Ascension. lol, he was after me for the rest of the night...

You can actually rocket lunge and jack banshees in midair? I only managed to rocket lunge a banshee once, and I didn't end up anywhere near it once I actually made it into the air.

Damn, I gotta work on that... that'll piss people off for sure! Wink (Of course I'd never use it on all you lovely people. Really.)

I have to work on this rocket lunging thing. I just can't get the timing right ... It takes me quite a lot of tries ...

Sometimes I get it, no problem. Other times, I am just clicking away, switching weapons like an idiot.

Atdt sword lunged my banshee and totally blew me up. I was annoyed for a second, but once I realized what he had done (I was fairly high up), I was more impressed than anything. I still tried to splat him, though, later.

I agree, I haven't figured out the rocket lunging thing either. I've been getting it to work by luck. I want to explore some of the other maps though. We should try that think again tonight.

Would someone who can do it consistently care to explain the rocket-lunge timing here, for posterity?

Sure...

Hit 'Y' then click your right trigger two times real fast... Wink

I'm sure that helps a TON.

NOTE: angelo can only do the rocket-lunge occasionally also, but chose to ring in anyway...

I only managed to do the rocket lunge twice the entire night. I guess I need more practice.

And what about that trippy nether-realm in Ascension? Forget about the not-so-secret ledge. If you could get a teammate to send you there in Oddball, you'd be unstoppable.

Edit: Fixed typo

Sure thing.

Grab a Rocket-Launcher and an Energy Sword (this trick is easier if you empty out your rockets before trying). Switch to your Rocket-Launcher and target anything so that your crosshairs turn red. As long as there in range of the Rocket-Launcher, you can sword-lunge to them. Hit Y (or whatever button you have it set to) to switch weapons. Just as the Rocket-Launcher is leaving the screen in mid-switch, hit the attack button.

If done at the right moment, the Energy Sword will still be recognizing the Rocket-Launcher's recognition of a possible target, and you'll be sent flying across the level to whatever you aimed at. If you don't want to kill that person or thing, hit X just before you reach them. I managed to completely destroy a Banshee by hitting it head-on and following through with the attack.

Unfortunately, that's about the extent of it. You need to start hitting the trigger almost before you release the "Y" button, but not quite, if that makes any sense.

Hrm. Probably not.

When you release the "Y" button, your finger should already be moving to hit the trigger. From there you can slow down the timing until you get it.

Yeah, I can only do it reliably on Headlong. Why that map, I don't know, but I was hitting it everytime on that map last night, and got it once on coagulation.

So, you only have to hit attack button once? If that's how it is, I'm assuming we were hitting it twice to increase chance of getting it right, right?

Right. I personally only hit it once, and it works about 33% of the time for me. I've had sets where I've done it five or six times consecutively, though; it's just about finding the timing.

Completely off topic, but if you have a chance, go read http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/... they're 1) really good, and 2) talking about time machines being built to play video games. So it's on topic... really....

Yes. I hope it doesn't become too effective and people start abusing it. By people, I mean everybody, not us in particular.

If they do, I think Bungie will patch it. I know they spend a lot of time balancing the game, and I'm guessing if something gets out of line, I think they'll deal with it.
