is it just me, or does someone seem out of place in that list? RazzSmile

I have been off Live for quite some time but will be back on this evening.

And after this evening???

I ask because my 18-year-old, somewhat shy sister wants to learn to play on Live (it has to do with Impressing A Boy -- shhh!) and if your wife is intimidated by the game style, perhaps playing in a game with, say, me, angelo, krystyn, a few other friendly beekeepers and my newbie sister would lower the intimidation factor somewhat.

But I'm not sure we'll be on tonight -- Kate wants to re-learn how to walk and shoot straight before going out in public.

Quote:
In the games that I have played, I rarely run into non-beekeeper women on line.

Again, they don't know what they're missing.

Although, I do think I understand somewhat. I'm a fairly aggressive person. I go for what I want, and I'm a definite Type-A personality.

However, I did grow up in an environment where I was strongly encouraged to be feminine (don't talk so loudly, cross your legs at the ankles, never command when you can ask, etc. etc. etc. because such things are "ladylike") and it did make a difference. I didn't start playing video games until I was in college (incidentally, also when I decided to walk however fast I damn well pleased, thank you very much, and talk however loudly I needed to to get my point across, and argue if I felt like it) but the few times I did play video games with other people, growing up, the competitive, aggressive nature of the play was very foreign and very intimidating to me (I didn't do sports -- gymnastics and ballet, which -- while competitive in their own way -- are not directly competitive. I was used to collaborative play -- the only competitive games I played were board and card games.

Of course, I'm highly competitive by nature, but it expressed itself in other ways. Initially the multiplayer scenario seemed very distasteful to me -- I preferred competing with the game, not with other people.

So, for a lot of women the conditioning may be more subtle, but I think it's still there.

Quote:
I can't speak for women, obviously, but I know my wife seems to be somewhat intimidated by the whole on-line gameplay style.

It probably doesn't help that so many people on Live are such cretins.

Quote:
She loves Halo and Halo 2 and we will spend hours playing co-op campaign but when I ask her if she wants to join me on live she gets nervous and tells me to go ahead and play without her. If you knew my wife, you would know she is not the shy or nervous type. I don't know if it is the style of gameplay or if she is worried about her skill level but I have been unsuccessful in getting her on live.

Again, tell her I hereby issue a personal invitation for her to come wipe the floor with me, because she probably will. Especially since I just upped my look sensitivity and spend a lot of time acting like a bobblehead doll.

Quote:
What makes it funny is that during ILB and even on live she is always asking about everyone and how they are doing. She absolutely loves the Goddess Squad and will routinely ask me about Krystyn, Kali, Phaedra, HitsHerMark, Angelo and all the rest.

Angelo is an honorary member of the Goddess Squad.

I should be on more regularly post-Christmas. We have had several family get togethers and with Christmas and my wife's birthday all this week, it has been an effort to get ready for everything. I will be on tonight but my wife will actually be spending time with her mother and sister. I will pass along this invite and try to convince her that there is no reason to miss out on the fantastic people and fun that can be had. Hopefully, she will join us in the very near future.

ok ok ok! Shocked
Laughing I forgot... I was only thinking along the lines 'women on live', not 'goddess squad members'... of course, the line right before the list referred to goddess squad members... so, totally my bad Embarassed Razz

Goddess Game!

What we need is to have a Goddess Game, in which Krystyn, me, Durga, HitsHerMark, KirstenS (if she's still around), Kali, my sister and kaber's wife all try to kill Angelo. Twisted Evil

That should dispatch the intimidation fairly quickly.

I think the giggling alone might kill him. I see seppuku in his future.

Neither, now that I think of it... How the heck did I become an honorary Goddess anyway? Confused

Or perhaps the screaming if he decides to sneak up on any of you with a sword...

That's a dang good question, though... how DID Angelo attain Honorary Goddess status? Was it his MCO'ing, or was it due to his way with the ladies? (Yes, I know I'm linking to it again, but people seem to keep forgetting.)

He's one hot man. I'm not gay but if Angelo asked really nicely, well, I might just give him a handshake.
