on a random note, I ran across this video:

A guy in this game fell asleep while on Live (you can hear him snoring), so his 'friends' decided to screw with his snoring immobile body. Pretty funny stuff.

I weep when I read the gamertags involved though... it's been said before but, people pay money for these things?

(if the streaming video on the site is too slow, I figured out the direct download link: http://x2.putfile.com/videos/c7-3104411981.wmv )

That is FREAKIN hilarious (Reminds me of a little something there Krystyn WinkWinkWink). Though I agree with you there thunderclap...somebody actively chose those names? Wow.

Tonight I realized that a team slayer game with just brute shots is WAAAAY more fun then it has any right to be.
That's all.

That is something I should consider. I'll plug it into my game types, and we'll playtest later this week.

Moving on ... treating people well is neither expected nor taken for granted on X-Box Live. If you treat your foes with respect in the post-game analysis, they'll generally return in kind. For instance, theBruce and I were playing against a highly-talented group of reds who we summarily stomped upon with all alacrity. In the post-game analysis, theBruce and I treated them well, and they treated us well. Very respectful. Very Awesome.

It's easy to get frustrated and act haughty upon your foe's defeat, but it's important to remain classy.

This Community Morality Announcement is now complete.
Good day.

well... we were playing against 2's and 3's Razz considering neither of played that game type regularly, if at all, yet we play others quite often, the chance of playing other 2's and 3's of the same skill level as us (in the same boat) is pretty slim, vs playing against actual beginners... don't mean to make us sound like masters, but it did seem we had more experience than most of those earlier levels we played, and we quickly rose up a couple of levels in a matter of a few games... even so, we didn't rub it in anyone's faces. We're all just finding our equivalent level, even those who start out... technically, the ranking system isn't a competition, it's simply a personal goal to keep increasing in level... otherise it would be a real ranking system where you work your way to the top vs increasing your skill level...

That's a nice thing about Live, at least Halo 2. It's not a ladder, it's a skill level. You're not competing against anyone else but yourself for higher rankings Smile so there's no point in disrespecting anyone anyway... unfortunately, too many people out there don't think like that... *sigh*

Here's a question - is it possible for everyone to increase a level in a game, even opponents? eg say talented players start playing a game type, where they'd best fit around level 8-10, playing against people who'd better fit in the 4-6 level area... if it's a good game, would everyone have the ability to raise a level? If the ranking really is, as believed, to be based on individual game performance, not wins/losses, then theoretically it should be possible for everyone in a game to level up after a good one...

Actually, I do think there have been matches where INCyr, Krystyn, Angelo, and I have played together and all leveled up in the span of the same match.

Yes, 'tis. Well worth adding to the gametype roster.

And I now LOVE the sound the Brute Shot makes in DTS... ubersaurus and INCyr can vouch for my distraction by the pretty sounds last night due to my picking up a new home theatre set on the weekend. Pretty picture and some specs here, though I got a factory refurbished model for $100 CAD less.

Guys, if you don't have a DTS system plugged into your Xbox you literally don't know what you're missing. EVERYTHING sounds different.

-- Steve got nuked plenty of times just listening to ambient noises on the levels. But they're so purty...

were you on the losing side in that game? I meant everyone, winners and loser leveling up, not just winners... and by that, there really is no point in taking jabs at people you beat, because everyone's in the same boat - looking for their skill level, not trying to beat each other to #1... though, some people out there are entirely working for that Razz

how many 20+ players are out there now? 30+? (and I mean rank, not age Mr. Green )

what I'd find funny are players who win a game, trash talk the losers, then find they actually decreased a level... THAT I'd love to see! Laughing

hehe welcome to the club Smile when I got Xbox years ago, I planned months beforehand to upgrade my entire system to take advantage of the quality... and if you have a DTS dvd player, compare the sound... it's minimal difference to the layperson, but it's there... DTS seems almost to have a wider range, making a lot of it louder, and some deeper... DTS is at this point my favourite audio format (though, DTS and DD5.1 is all my amp currently supports outside standard stereo and dolby surround Razz)

even so, DTS rox Smile and I don't even have a sub yet...
enjoy your sound system Wink

I think I'm currently playing in DS5.1... I should enable DTS on my xbox and see if it makes any difference.

Nope, it's an experience point based system. Winners always get points, and losers always lose points. The standard amount is 100 points won or lost per game, but that's modified by level differences. Not modified enough to actually give points to the losing side though. Bungie has a very in-depth FAQ on their site that explains every detail of the system.

But I do agree. I'd love to see trash talkers and a-holes decrease levels even when they win. Smile

If you're playing with Dolby Digital 5.1 then, nope. The xbox has no DTS encoding capabilities. The xbox has a real-time Dolby Digital encoder though. The DTS setting is for DVD's only. There's some quality difference between DTS and DD, since DD is more compressed than DTS. But for gaming purposes, DD is perfect!

For the PC world, there are no real time DTS encoder at this time. Even Dolby Digital encoders are rare, with the exception of nforce1/2 motherboards that have the same chip the xbox has and some new Intel solution (software based). There's been talk about PCI sound cards that should bring back DD encoder (hardware based, like the xbox).

The real shame about all this is that there's a great chance that Xbox Next won't even have DD real-time encoding capabilities, which totally sucks!

It's also a shame that the Xbox 360 (The prominent rumor name of the Xbox 2) might not have Blu-Ray nor HD-DVD disc formats.

This had better not be true as I don't think people are willing to pay $300+ for a next gen gaming console that runs on the same disc format as the current gen consoles. The PS3 will more than likely follow the Blu-Ray format, as Sony is a big supporter of the Blu-Ray.
