Totally didn't see you guys. Must've jumped on after I jumped ship. Sorry to miss you.

Ain't it always the way?

a duel then!

Say, that's not a bad idea...
Make it a FFA slayer match with a limit of 2 players. Starting weapon pistols, nothing else on the map, one life per round.

Which map? Foundation is corral shaped, but Beaver Creek is smaller. Should shields be allowed? What about radar? If you both run out of ammo before there's a kill, do you melee to decide the winner? Should we put pistols on the map, but keep them from respawning? Realism aside, what would make a duel match fun?

Dueling

Map: Lockout
You need two participants and two judges. The participants, in this case, "The Duelists," will place themselves directly across from each other on the central platform. One Duelist will stand on the central platform by the exit to the sniper tower. The other Duelist will stand in front of the bridge that leads to the Battle Rifle tower. The two Duelists cannot leave the Central Platform for the duration of the duel, or they will forfeit the match.
One judge will stand on the Sniper tower, and one judge will stand on the Battle Rifle tower. They will watch the match.
Each of the duelist will have a Plasma pistol as their starting weapon and a Magnum as their secondary weapon. On the mark of the Sniper tower judge, the two Duelists will cycle to their Magnum and begin firing. The victor will win the round. Matches will be decided by whichever contestant will win 3 out of 5 rounds.

Opinions? Loves? Hates? Additions?

Dueling actually sounds like a good time. Could get a bunch of people in one game and do a whole tourney out of it.

The first rule of Halo Fight Club is that there is no Halo Fight Club...

I suggest Starting weapon as Energy Sword. There are two reasons for this:
1) Takes away the possiblity of an "accidental" Plasma discharge.
2) The opponents must be out of Sword Lunge distance at the beginning of the duel. (Neither opponent's Sword reticle can be "RED" at the beginning of the match.) This serves as your 10 paces distance between duelists.

Duels could also be done on:
Coagulation in the center of the map where the rocket launchers spawn. Zanzibar on the beach.
Ivory Tower in the court yard.
Acension (I hate spleling) in the dish.

Grifter, that's a good point. I'll plug this into my game variants. We should try this out tonight.

Say I'm a lousy shot (hypothetically, of course) with the pistols. If I forgot and just ran/jumped at my opponent with the sword, would I be disqualified?

Figure out a way to make it work with one judge or no judges. The players already spawn at exactly the same time. Maybe, if the round time limit is extremely short? If we have to use judges, we could insist on formal dueling custom: stand back to back, count and walk 5 paces, turn and fire.

I was actually thinking about this, when I challenged waters. I thought it'd be kinda cool. You could also do a match to the death on the platform on midship... if you fall off, you lose.

I also like the idea of a continual dual.... 2 players on map at a time and just cycling in people... I'm gonna have to play with some stuff for a bit to see if I can't get this to work as a continual game.

This could be a game all by itself.
Sheilds: Overshield
Resist Damage: On
OR
Team Play: on
Friendly Fire: Off
Everyone on the same team.

The object is to knock everyone else off the platform while staying on.

Could this be accomplished by limiting the number of players to 2 and turning On Force Even Teams? Would that allow others to join the game but have to wait until one of the two duelist to lose (die) before they (the waiting party members) are allowed to play?
I'm not sure if that would work or not as I'm at work and Halo 2 is at home.

I really like this idea of team duels. Start with one red and one blue facing off. Winner stays, loser is knocked out. Cycle in the next member of the losing team. Repeat until one team's lineup is exhausted.

Would be great training for headshots, too.

Make it so everyone has just one life and you've just made the perfect Team Duel Gametype.

Sorry I couldn't play longer last night everyone. That one 20min game was about all the time I could get out of last nights crazy family schedule. Still nice to see [hear] everybody again.

Dude, we love you, and you better post some pics of little Smeagol when he enters the world.

Here's a complete non-sequitor.
I hereby posit that, should anyone accuse us of cheating again, we should all begin to sing Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart."
