Thank God! Now, we all know that it is gonna be screwy the first few weeks after but, it should level out again. I support this idea because of all the cheating rank %$#@! will have to actually EARN their ranks. It might just even make them so upset that they will stop playing (hoping against all hope).

And the players that earned them can easily earn them right back.

So...anyone gonna be on tonight or is everyone drawn into JE yet?

Note that they say they are resetting the leaderboard and your stats. These are not nessicarily connected to your matchmakeing rank. I dont think that they will be reseting ranks, that would cause too much caos for weeks to come. A small precentage of players have false ranks due to cheating. I dont see why Bungie would plunge us into playing 3's vs 20's just to reset those few. Thier ranks will drop as soon as they start playing by the rules exactly how the ranking system is intended to work. My personal prediction.

They are resetting ranks. They went on to say that under the new system, ranking levels will be more spread out, and it will be easier to gain ranks. They also said that it'll just be easier to reset the system entirely and start from scratch.

It takes like 2 months to drop from level 12 to level 1. How long would it take those cheaters high up in the 20s? Assuming they don't just stop playing to keep their rank.

The are using a new system for the ranking so you wont get those lvl 24/25(maybe diff for you) that are just crazy when they are with their team. I CAN"T WAIT TILL MONDAY!!!! I got stand byed today, Every time the guy saw red on his radar or he saw you, the clock stopped. And when you unlagged you were eather dead or you were the last one alive. I killed him while i was "lagging" and i was across the map when he died by the butt off my gun. He was sooo bad/banned.

My favorit thing to do is to kill people while they are in the middle of cheatting. I sniped a guy when he super bounced up to the top of the base in zanzabar. All his team saw was him go up and his dead body come down. I was at the camo when I sniped him. All i could do was laugh.

Although I can see why they're resetting the ranks, I don't think it's the best solution. Just think about it. Starting Monday, cheaters with fake high-ranks, will either stop playing to maintain their levels or they will get their asses kicked really hard! Either way, they'll get frustrated, some will quit and who stays will adjust. This solution affects only cheaters (which I believe it's still minority) and it's better than resetting for EVERYBODY, which will ensure at least a couple of weeks of people really looking forward for the changes, but getting frustrated due to mis-matches on matchmaking ...

I dont rember who mentioned it one of the games, but all of this could be fix by just getting rid of the rank next to your name. if as they say it means nothing other than a way to match people up, why show it? haveing a dang number seems to drive people nuts to the point of cheating to gain a different number. just hide the dang thing.

True. But Bungie knows that rank means a lot to a good portion of the players. It's true the main purpose is to match people with similar skills, but they also know there are a lot of high competitive players that use the ranks for bragging rights! If not, they wouldn't even have the leaderboards on bungie.net.

The way I see it, I have the opportunity to learn some sneaky/cool moves from the higher-ranked players who came by it honestly.

Also, they won't have the ability to underestimate me truly, because we're all gonna be on the same level for a bit.

I kinda look forward to it. The frustration of re-shuffling is at least ripe with opportunity, as opposed to the frustration of constantly getting beat by cheaters.

I'm with Krystyn: Resetting the ranks allows me to get schooled by people who might actually teach me something. In the beginning, I'll probably be more jumpy at the beginning of the match, since I won't know whether I'm facing a former level-50 team or a former level-1 team. I expect the former cheaters to become discouraged and to move on to some other game.

There were some good games last night! Granted, peeps from the other team kept dropping and stuff, and I guess there were some lag issues? But still. I think the teamwork and agreement and communication we have as beekeepers is improving somewhat!

I think the only time I noticed lag was when I was on the top platform near the rocket launcher spawn on Headlong, and I should've perforated this one dude's helmet, but suddenly he jumped three feet to the right, and well, crap!

Also, zorplex and I traded off sniping on Coagulation, which worked out really, really well.

If you check the game viewer on this game, you'll see the nice run I had on offense. I may have been just as annoying as Twizzler tends to be! Wink

I felt bad for what was, essentially, spawn killing, but I was there, I had the ammo, and, well, they kept appearing at the teleporter. What was cool was seeing them learn how to jump and shimmy as soon as they spawned. Heh. Still, I bet they hated me kinda a little bit.

It's all about merciless domination. Spawn killing, overkill (like a rocket in a guy's back), whatever. Keeps them from getting something that can take you down later.

That said, I was having a really good night with that shotgun. I have to admit, I also enjoyed all the bomb and flag runs in Coagulation that I came along on. I should really go on offense more often, I'm so used to being Defense that I'm never quite sure what to do when I have to attack them.

Lesson on Standby 101:

Primary/Host standby: When the host presses the Standby button on the modem causing all others to BSoD.

Secondary standby: When a NON-host player disconnects a cable between the router and modem, i think it is, and they must reconnect it within 30 seconds or they time out. This allows them to move invisibly, invincible, for 30 seconds. When they reconnect, they "revert" to their first locale like Dummying does. However, if they picked up a object/weapon during the 30 seconds, they get to keep it in their reverted location. Bad news as well.

BOTH OF THESE will be fixed Monday. YAY

If you havne't read this already, there is a great article about the etiquette rules of Halo 2. I know most of this dosn't apply to us, but I'm posting it here as a reminder

Quote:

Twenty-Two Halo 2 Rules of Etiquette
April 14, 2005 | Category: Xbox | Scrivs

1. Do not cheat (this one shouldn't be much of an issue in a week or two as of this writing).
2. You should not 'call weapons'. IE: "I call sword / shotgun / rockets". This is an annoying habit. If you choose to ignore this rule, then you should not get angry when your teammates decide to steal 'your' weapon. Furthermore, you shouldn't betray your teammates and take 'your' weapon away.
3. Never quit a battle. It doesn't matter if you are losing with no hope of recovery, never quit a battle. Besides making your team angry, you might be the host and upon leaving incur the dreaded blue 'waiting for connection' screen for the rest of the players. Also, quitting a game will bring down your overall level more than toughing it out.
4. Do not betray your teammates. Sure it might be hilarious, but it's also annoying and stupid.
5. Do not play loud annoying music in the background. It's a distraction to other players.
6. Do not breath in to your microphone. It's gross.
7. Do not eat food without first moving the microphone away from your mouth. It's disgusting.
8. Screaming and profuse cursing is needless and frustrating. Refrain from both of these things.
9. Racial slurs are the lowest form of insults and show that your level of intelligence is just below that of a slug. Don't use these.
10. Constantly talking when you have nothing to say is stupid. Know when to shut your fat mouth.
11. If someone asks a question: where the enemy is, if a room is clear, if a weapon is at it's spawn point, etc. answer the question. Even if you don't know the answer to the question, replying with a brief, "I'm not sure" or "No clue" will help to avoid frustration.
12. Don't constantly ask questions. Try to stay aware of all important situations, but if you need to know something, then ask... just keep it to a minimum.
13. Do keep your team informed of important developments such as the enemies' location etc.
14. Do not rush headlong in to a group of enemies without one or more of the following:
* Team backup
* Dual weapons
* Overshield
* Rocket launcher
If you do, it will only serve to raise the enemies' score and lower your teammates' opinion of your IQ.
15. Don't get angry and complain when people use the Battle-rifle Plasma Pistol combo. It's not a glitch, it's not a cheat. It's a totally legal and lethal combo. Instead of complaining, learn to use it yourself.
16. Bragging about accuracy in the post game lobby because it's the only stat you dominated in is just plain stupid.
17. Insisting that the other team won simply because one of your guys left in the last 30 seconds of the game is dumb.
18. If you are going to insult the opposite team, make sure it's a witty, funny and intelligent insult and or comeback.
19. If you are going to trash talk about your skills, make sure that you actually have skills to trash talk about.
20. Don't talk on the phone during game play unless you absolutely have to. In those rare situations, make sure your microphone is muted.
21. If you have to urinate while in the middle of a close match, just go in your pants. You can always clean your clothes and body afterwards.
22. Don't ask what team you are on. If you don't know, press the back button and check where your name is listed. If your name is on a blue background, you are on blue team. A red background means you are on red team. It's a fairly simple concept.
