I was just getting the hang of grenade jumping. Do you suppose the new updates will make grenade jumping without overshield impossible?

Update seems to be available now, from what I read on hbo and bungie.net forums. I'm worried about multiple reports that standby still works ... If it indeed works, I hope they can track it and ban people right away before it gets rampant.

Yes, I know they didn't flat out said it would be impossible to stand-by. I'm just concerned that it might still be there, with people taking advantage of it. I think the best scenario would be if they could detect it somehow and just ban the hell out of people!

Changes I've noticed so far:

Both kinds of sword flying seem to no longer work.
SMG melee takes your shield down to almost nothing.
Frag grenades still don't kill you in one go unless it's by your face, but they do go off quicker. Brute Shot grenades now kill in 2 direct hits, rather than 3-4.
Plasma grenades go off much quicker, and are deadly, even if just set on the ground near you.
Magnum now needs an entire clip just to take down your shield. The SMG combo with it is still good, though. Plasma Rifle/SMG kills slightly slower, but enough to really notice.

Can someone check if you can still launch to the Zanzibar roof from the window?

Apparently standbying is easier for Bungie to track now, which means it's easier to ban people for it and to erase stats for games that it takes place in.

They allways said that they couldnt stop people from hitting the standby button, only try to make it pointless to do it. Sounds like its eaiser for them to pick out those who do standby so it will be eaiser to take the banhammer to them.

I just got the update, haven't fiddled with it much yet though. Is it just me or are ranks now invisible?

I can't comment on the update directly (dratted work) but I have seen reports on HBO that people using standby are being kicked from the game much more quickly... one report of a player getting booted after 12 seconds. (And apparently suspended, too. W00t!)

Also, and this is extremely important, Frankie (of Bungie.net) is warning people NOT TO LOG ON TO LIVE IF YOU HAVE HACKED GAMESAVES OR PROFILES. You could be automagically banned. Save 'em out to a memory card and delete them from your Xbox before logging onto live. Hopefully there'll be some clarification as to whether you can still use them locally or not. (For instance, the popular HUDless/weaponless profile.)

-- Steve'd hate to see any of you guys lose your accounts over this. But it does look like the bugfixes and weapons rebalance are making the game more fun for people.

Because they were doing an incremental role out of the Update, the people are that are still using the Standby Modem cheat may not have gotten the Update yet, thus Standby could still be happening. It will take a few days for everyone to receive the update I would guess. Also what happens if a person stays logged into HALO 2 for a long period of time? I am guessing that it would only prompt you to download the update once you Login. Could the Cheaters leave their Xboxs on for a long time and still be able to cheat? I know they couldn't leave their Xbox on forever but it's still a possiblity that the cheaters could stay logged in for a long time.

Also Frankie strongly suggest you do NOT try to test that Standbying does not work.
