The new maps are amazing! My favorit ones are..... all of them even containment (when matt doesn't have the tank ....got raped Confused )! Turf is a must have. The sniper spawns on 3 of the maps ever one needs to find if you haven't already! Containment's sniper is in front of the base. It's tuching one of the ramps going to the base(if you haven't found it yet that should help alittle Wink )

If the only reason your not buying it is to not pay for something twice, go in on the disk with a friend who wants to. Split it how ever you want, but I am gunna split the cost 75-25%. He pays 5 $ I pay 15, and so I'm not paying for the maps twice and I keep the disk. He gets 9 maps for 10$, and every thing works out.

Oh, and Mike, the reason I didn't send you an invite last night was NOT because I don't like you, or ignoring you. It was because the party was at a full 16 people when you sent the invite. And after the game was over, I jumped ship to get to bed. So sorry about that, I don't hate you, I promise.

I was begining to think you guys were hating me last night. I requested an invite when there were only 11 people in the party and it was closed. I ended up having to leave shortly thereafter but I'm guessing that the invite request never made it to the Party leader so that they could open the party to let me in.
Fun times playing with everyone else, and I'm sorry that everyone droped out of the CTF on Sancutuary. I had started the game in CTF classic but didn't remember the touch flag return being on. We should play more games like that though because it definetly requires more team work, and communication. If you can score consistantly on touch flag return game, then playing timed flag return would be a breeze. Just my two cents.

Here's what happened last night for me:

Got the maps, got into Warlock, ran around, accidentally killed a few people, and then went over to Containment, I think? And then Sanctuary? And then Turf? Whereupon I got a phone call, and I kept hearing the messages appearing on my screen, but I often didn't see who they were.

If that was you, I apologize.

Also, it was really, really difficult for me to pay attention to a huge map like Containment, and also message INCyr, who was on the other team, to ask him to open it up to invites, and then coordinate inviting someone, all whilst playing a somewhat frustrating game of capture-the-flag-while-Twizzler-practices-with-the-tank-some-more-even though-we-just-GOT-this-map-for-cry-eye-could-you-just-let-up for-one-freaking-minute-hotshot-and-let-us-acclimate? that was at a steady 16 people for some time, because suddenly everyone comes out of the woodwork and wants to play.

If that was you, I apologize again.

Also, judging by some of the sugar-induced messages I got from Jinxie, it became quickly apparent to me that I wasn't receiving some message notifications at all. A bit later in the evening I was blue screening/lagging out of games, so it's possible I missed a whole mess of invite requests, on account of me not being able to stay in a game to save my life.

If that was you, NO APOLOGIES -- screw you, pal, my blue screen is more painful than your lonely, stable, speedy lonely lobby!!

(just kidding)

That said, I LIKE Containment, and I think there are some great possibilities there. I kinda wish there were more boxes, though. It'd be nice to play with blocking tunnels or certain access points along the front, just to be able to change the map a bit, for it is so very symmetrical. I wish I had been able to explore the middle a bit more, though, but seeing as Twizzler was in love with his tank, I will have to load it up on my own and do some quiet exploration.

I don't think it's bigger. It's just wider. Beaver creek is longer than Sanctuary, while Sanc. is wider, and is less linear. There are definitely more possibilities on Sanc. than on Beaver Creek, although I think I'm still gonna prefer Beaver Creek over Sanc., at least for the forseeable future. At least until I get used to Sanc., and learn all the ins & outs.

You could be right. But it feels so much bigger! I really like the layout and how the bases can be attacked. I think this will be my fav map on a team skirmish game.

I was expecting this! I almost don't feel that bad I collapsed on the couch after dinner!

Re: New Maps

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's going to be even more frustrating than Coag. It seems like a map that would be good for 8+ teams... 8 people seem to just barely fill the map, and less than that is gonna suck like nothing else. Can you imagine 6 people teams on Containment? You could go days without seeing anyone else.

Seeing as I had an absolute blast playing 6v6 classic CTF on Containment, I disagree. Smile

The map is similar in broad aspects to Coagulation, but the details are where it shines. There's more entries into the base and it's harder to create a "shield wall" defense. That makes for a more active game of maneuver.

Everyone I played with had absolutely no problem finding someone to kill. The preponderance of mid- and long-ranged weapons means that everybody's engagement radius can extend across half the map, but the way the map's laid out you can always find cover if you need to.

Oh, and what is this "closed" status on parties? Was that always around and I just didn't notice, or was that added in the AU? And what the heck does it mean?

I've only actually played on Containment and tried some trixing on Turf (failing miserably... I suX0rs at teh sword-cancel) so I look forward to playing on Warlock and Sanctuary. Oh, and the other two too.

-- Steve's looking forward to playing on the new maps again tonight.

You might sux0rs on the sword cancel, because it doesn't exist anymore. (oh, wait, you probably just mean the cancel. lunging is out, though. sadly.)

Parties were closed ... I am not sure why. I think people wanted to be able to explore the maps in relative peace, and so opted to prevent the normal levels of chaos caused by various combinations of beekeepers-and-their-friends.

I was party leader for a while, and I did not close my party.

HOWEVER - if you get an invite, please be sure to indicate in your request that you'd like to bring 4 or 5 extremely rowdy people, or not. A lot of the time I try to gauge how many people I can bring in before we hit 16, and a lot of people did NOT respect that, and just kept inviting.

Twizzler ended up getting shut out of a party because he left to make a custom CTF (secondary battle rifle, essentially, since the rumor is that matchmaking for Containment will have that particular setting) ... how frustrating, you know? And I know you guys have ears and can listen, but it took several minutes that would be better left to blowing things and each other up, sitting in the lobby, uncomfortably trying to determine who needed to leave in order to let Matt back in.

Also, if we're saying that we're exploring, and you really want in, be sure to respect that, and don't start killing. I was able to get a few people into the mix that assured me they wouldn't be total dorks about it, but I swear, some of you have no self-control!

Including me! I just started stickying people like crazy on Warlock (or, well, TRYING to), so I suck, too!

Waaaaah!

God I had sooo much fun on sanctuary before I left yesterday. I was on the team where no one at all knew the maps and the other team knew it pretty much completely and I just sat there with my sniper/sword combo and killed everything that moved. It was the multiflag touch return game we played. I might have died about 6 times where as I had around 60 kills. It was goooooooooood. Then my team caught everything that got past me adn went for our flag. Eventually they got through and scored, because we didn't even try to go on offense, and by then I had to leave but sheesh, it lasted probably an hour n 1/2 before I took off, and there was still only one score.
All the maps were freaking awesome for actualy games, exploring them was not so fun tho...

PS- Turf and Containment make me sad, too many freaking invisable walls to go anywhere too much fun, they suxxors!1!!oneeleven!!11!

I got killed so much last night...

Now, can we just go back to the maps where I can find everything, please?

I have no idea how to defend the Containment base. My current best guess is a Brute Shot stationed directly in front of the teleporter.

I do appreciate all of the hidden/protected routes across the map. I forsee most of the firefights shifting to those tunnels and trenches, while a few holdouts struggle on the surface with tanks, banshees, and rockets.

Oh! This all reminds me:

What is UP with this straaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaange phenomenon where we have an INVITE ONLY party, and two or three mysterious dudes show up, and won't say who they are?

Their icons indicate they have communicators and microphones, and they obviously got there by the good graces of someone's invite, and yet!

And yet!

When I ask (nicely!) who they are, and who they know, and how they got there?

None of the new people answer! It's as if they just have microphones for show! They like wearing headsets in their spare time, just for kicks!

Additionally! NO ONE ELSE in the lobby cops to inviting them! It is so mysterious!

What the heck is up with that? Because you know what makes it notable? About 70% of the time, those mysteeeeeeeeerious new, silent people become raging poopyheads inside of the game, and I really, really don't need to have racist/misogynistic/trollish dialogue during custom games, when I get my daily recommended allowance during big team battle.

I don't boot people willy-nilly; you know that. But that sort of behavior is really beginning to chap my hide somethin' fierce.

I didn't know people still said "Chap My Hide"... Hey but you go ahead and boot them, I do it all the time if someone ends up in my party and they are being "poopy heads"
On a side note, I may have exagerated a wee bit about that last game, but Sanctuary is my new fav map so I'm allowed a bit of poetic liscence*only spelled right* I'm at school now, *sad face* but I will jack myself back into the game as soon as I get home!!! Wink Now back to spanish homework and filling out my scedual for my senior year...

anyway, my roommate, Cyphermage, bought the other 2 maps, so my dilemma of whether to buy them or not has been solved Very Happy

First, if you want large scale battles with live opponente, Black Hawk Down supports an unheard of 50 players Exclamation

Next, do you have a mem card? I want to know if the maps are locked to your xbox or to your gamertag. It's REALLY easy to move your xbox live account via mem card to another xbox for temp games, and that may include DLC. Just a theory.

I've read somewhere that you can't copy the maps to memory cards. Don't know if it's due to size or some copy protection, but it's not possible. I don't know if I read that on bungie.net forums or hbo forums.

Maps

Looks like the Containment fetish is limited to a few vocal proponents. I have to say, I played CTF on Sanctuary, which was enjoyable despite getting sniped down the center archway, and on Turf, which was really a blast.

I think that Sanctuary will be my favorite map for tourism, and Turf is going to be my favorite map to actually play on.

That said, I'd like to get some folks together to just explore these maps, without a lot of gunfire. I think there is some definite potential to get up on the high in Turf, out of the level in Warlock, and up on top of structures in Sanctuary. That, and looking at Carney's face in Containment. Smile

We should also be looking for Carneyholes and the like in every map, and sharing that information here or in the strategy thread.

I'll throw out the accusation: I think it's the phenomenon of inviting everyone on your Friends list. Observe:

I login to XBox Live. I can't get into the party I want, so I create my own or join an existing party. I then invite my entire Friends/Clan list to join that party. I finally get an invite from my preferred party, and I join it. I still have outstanding invites to everyone on my Friends/Clan list.

Alternatively, I create a party, or I join an existing party and become leader. I get an invite to another party, and I bring the whole party along.
