I personally am not a fan of limiting what goes on. I was spawn killing yesterday, I admit it. My guys were trying to move in on the enemy base, and like hell I was going to let anyone get away so that they could cause a problem. If there's no one over there to attack, I don't even bother wasting my ammo. Similarly, if it's a slayer game, I usually don't notice if someone just spawned or not-I'm just going to go kill em.

I don't mind the plasma pistol/battle rifle combo. Hell, it's good, even I use it. It's a power weapon combo for sure, and should be approached as such-very carefully. But if there's no plasma pistol, what's to stop someone from using grenade/battle rifle combo? It's as dangerous, if not moreso. What's to stop someone, with no BR, from just using pp/carbine? Or just using the plasma pistol as a surrogate shotgun, with an overcharge and melee attack? If you take that out, wouldn't something else just as annoying rise up to take it's place on the tiers? One of the best reasons for it being there is that it IS an effective counter to the power weapons, moreso than something like magnum and needler would be. It's worth people's time to get good with it.

Of course, vicious snipers in general own the maps. But that's their whole point, it's why they get limited ammunition. I may not have enjoyed being unable to move on sanctuary because of the opponent's numbers, motion tracker, and snipers, but I didn't blame the snipers for making it not fun-I blamed the numbers game. I'll be frank-some gametypes and maps aren't suited to uneven teams. That is one of them.

One of the best parts of playing freely with other people is that you naturally improve, if you really want to, just by coming up subconsciously with ways to match them. It's one of the reasons I enjoy playing with this group. I'll enjoy it much less if weird "rules" are implimented.

Just do what I do. Don't want to deal with matchmade rules? Come up with weird ass gametypes, with strange starting weapons, rules, and items on the map. How many people would honestly think a two bomb game on sanctuary with Spectres and touch return would have been fun? For some reason, it was a blast. The all brute shot game is just pure mayhem, and the perfect way to get better with that thing. Reverse juggernaut forces you to become much more strategic in when you strike, and much more adept at using what little you have to work with to eliminate more powerful foes. And games without radar in general just force you to be much more aware of what's going on around you and discourage camping.

Says I, no need for every custom game to end up being standard games or a zombies clone.

I'm like you. I usually kill everything I see on sight. The thing that annoys people is the player that actively looks for the recent spawned player. The player that knows where most of the other team oponents will spawn and take advantage of this. I'm sure I already killed people that had recently respawned! If somebody spawns right in front of me, I'll kill them, as most people here would. But it's not like I'm looking for this type of situation in most games. It's easy to see who's usually spawn killers and, while it's perfectly fine on matchmaking, it's annoying as hell and should be avoided on custom games. I think this is almost a consensus here.

Ok, now replace "rules" with etiquette. Does it sound better? And I don't see anything weird about it ... We're talking about common sense here, but the fact that we're having this discussion just shows that not everybody here shares the same point of view.

Well, it's like this.

I play samurai shodown. I knock the other guy's sword away. What incentive is there, even when just playing with friends, is there for me to let them go grab their sword? Why wouldn't I press the attack? Maybe it'd be the nice thing to do, but if I want to stay on the machine instead of possibly having someone else take my spot, I'm gonna take advantage of it. Similarly, there's only a few games run of halo each night, due to the length of matches. With that in mind, what incentive is there for me to not kill my opponents, when I think it'll help us win the match quicker, or otherwise, not lose? It may not matter who wins in a custom game, but it's more enjoyable.

Course I don't see a problem with an excellent sniper letting someone else take the rifle-but at the same time I don't think it's right to "call" weapons. It'd be smarter just to let whoever starts closest to it that wants it, gets it. I see the logic in having people do specific tasks if possible, but getting other people to the point where they can be effective backups is important too.

I may be annoyed as all hell when I'm sniped every two seconds on a lockout ctf game, but I can't blame em for doing it.

See, here's the thing. With spawn-camping, you're relying on a very unrealistic (yeah, that's sort of a relative term here) aspect of the game with which to press your advantage.

Normally, when people die, they stay dead, except in zombie movies, and in Halo, or when you get enough 1UPs in Mario to save the princess.

With the essense of a timed re-spawn, in a predictable general area, you're essentially depending upon a game mechanic to do your work for you, which is why it feels really rotten to exploit it when playing custom games with beekeepers. Does that make sense?

I mean, the good will out, ultimately. People -will- make their own games and play with people they feel comfortable with. Some of them are already doing this, and that's their prerogative. Like I said, I don't wanna make any rules, but I'd love to see some compromise, before the player base gets too narrow to really have fun any more.

The incentive is that you're not annoying the other team and you're allowing everybody to have fun. It may not make sense, since it might reduce your chances of victory, but that's not that important on custom games with beekeepers.

You can kill people all you want, just don't spawn camp, because, as you can see on this discussion, people get annoyed!

Again, people play custom games just to have fun, regardless of who wins.

Yes, that's why I'm concerned. I, honestly, don't get too annoyed with spawn killing. But the fact that this is driving people (I like to play with) away from custom games bothers me a lot! That's why I think writing some etiquette guide, best practices could help ...

I made my first foray into matchmaking after the reset last night and let me say that I desperately miss you guys regardless of spawn killing, camping, sniper whoring, one trick ponying, PP/BR owning, and whatever else could possibly be frustrating. If you have not played matchmaking since the level reset, I highly recommend going in with a team you are familiar with. I forgot how frustrating it can be to play with some of the lower level people who are simply trying to be idiots. I was unfortunate to be on a series of teams where no one wanted to communicate and it seemed that everyone's best plan was to run around like the Keystone Cops and shoot whatever moved (including teammates). It took me back to Nov 9 when it seemed like the F-bomb and racial/sexual remarks where the language of the future and somehow a legitimate strategy. I hope the rest of you who were on yesterday did not have this same experience.

As an aside, it appears the level reset has brought Angelo out of the shadows and back into the realm of H2. Smile

Not to really distract you guys from the current discussion. Fyi, the people on your friends list who still have high levels, they haven't goten those levels back already, the stats for your friends don't reset in the actual friends list until your in a party with them for some reason. Rolling Eyes
I tried the whole Handicap thing for a few games last night with just Minor one on and you can defiently notice the difference. For one, you have much less shields and the second part, which sucks in my opinion is the amount of damage you do, a single rocket won't blow up a vehicle anymore, I needed two to take out a banshee last night. Crying or Very sad I liked it better tho, made it much more challenging, I only had like, 6 kills or something on that huge Ctf containment game.
Anyways, I am soo happy with the matchmaking pla- *Sniped by Vash*
