Heeee!

Man, I am sad I missed you. I did not play much all weekend because I was out and about, tying ribbons in my hair and squee'ing with my mom over the Beatles.

Good that you're back, though. Very, very good.

It just so happens that Consumer Reports released a report on Internet service options this month:

Internet service: Cable vs. DSL vs. dial-up
Quote:
There's no best broadband type. The highest-scoring cable and DSL providers offered comparable, fairly high levels of satisfaction--while the least satisfactory of each received equally ho-hum Ratings overall.

But the two provider types differed in what made their best ISPs score so high. Subscribers to the better-rated cable-broadband providers were more satisfied than most DSL subscribers with the speed of their service, and with its reliability and tech support. But subscribers to the least pricey of the DSL providers were far more satisfied with their monthly bills (around $30) than were subscribers to cable broadband, who paid about $35 to $45 a month.

If high speed is a priority:

Consider the cable broadband service that is available in your area. For all but the lowest-rated cable services, our survey respondents reported faster connection speeds than with DSL. That difference is important if you often download large files, access the Internet with more than one computer at a time, or are hosting a Web site.

Cable will likely cost more than DSL. However, as you compare prices, consider the likely savings you'll also get if you bundle cable-TV service with your Internet. It might close or eliminate the cost gap with a DSL service.

I gotta say, I loved one of the half-games that started the evening last night. The party leader (omalice, I think?) started the game while I was putting the mower away, and DanteThePoet (aka Tiny) was off doing something too. It was a 4-on-4 team slayer training game, and by the time Dante and I got back (about half way through), the other team was up 37 kills. As Dante pointed out, "Hey, these guys aren't that good!" We rallied back to beat them 50 to 49. That game must have really turned sour fast from the other team's perspective!

My xbox is a whore, Uber, your the network guy, come fix it, I called Road Runner and Xbox live help and niether of them know whats wrong.
The Dns server's won't let the xbox connect to Xbox live, but it is letting it connect enough to reset the time through the net. Cuz ya know, when you unplug the xbox, you have to reset the time on your own if it isn't connected to the net. I dunno whats wrong!
It's a stupid xbox.

You can usually change your dns server... off the top of my head i'm pretty sure verizon's is 1.2.3.4 & 1.2.3.5 (not that verizon's is without problems, but it should work just fine for gaming).

I have road runner, I can't really use Verizons Dns servers if I'm using Road Runner's cable internet. Road runner is the only highspeed internet avaliable to me here.

Actually, you can use anyone's dns router...it just acts as an IP address that doles out the name resolutions for other ip's. Verizon's is a little bit screwy because it doesn't resolve all ip's correctly.

The dns server I use (comcast's, it works perfectly) is found at
68.42.244.5 & 68.42.244.6

You can change the dns server in your router properties, and i think there's a setting in the xbox network area.

I might try those later, but after all the time I've spent dealing with this today, I'm not sure if the Dns server is the only problem my xbox is dealing with, screwy Road Runner, but thanks man.
Didn't work, after I put in those server numbers I got a different error though. Told me that "Network Services (Dhcp or pppoe) were not found, yada yada ya.
So I'm still busted.
