yeah, my xbox died Tuesday night, and Zorp's died Wed. morning.

Both are internal hardware failures; mine is something with the power supply. Sad

3 red lights on the Ring of Light. Grrr....

Waiting on the overnight box now.

Wow I missed allot, poor Zorplex he just bought his the other day. Hope mine doesn't have a problem, I had mine on for about a week strait. Not to mention the two times an Xbox Controller (I think it was jealous) fell right on the hard drive from about a height of about 5'+. Thank god it wasn't saving or it may have gone boom. So far though it's still working. Neutral

as soon as i get a payed gold live acc i can play halo2 but till then all i can do is play demos till i can get a game.

I installed a modchip in my xbox a while ago, not for evil, but for good. Made myself some crazy custom games. Along the way, I've stumbled into some things that I've always suspected, but nobody would believe me. I have no idea if any of this information would be helpful, most of it certainly isn't, but some of it might be good to keep in the back of your mind. I have no idea if any of this is new information to you people.

The shotgun spread is shaped like a freaking donut. There is a very big hole in the middle of the spread. I'm seriously starting to wonder if, at least in theory, the shotgun can be effective at longer ranges by aiming to the side of them. If someone could show me how to take screencaps without a capture card, I'd gladly take a few screenshots of it to show you precisely how big this hole in the middle of the cone is. They also had this genius idea where the shotgun bullets simply fall out of existence at a certain range. If they removed both of these features, the weapon feels far more like the halo 1 masterpiece again, but it's still pretty slotty, because it only fires 10 tracers. They probably did this for netcode's sake.

You run faster forwards than you do sideways and backwards. I think they did this to make melees more powerful.

It takes a mere 8 needle hits in a row to get a detonation. Trouble is, the weapon is so inaccurate, that it's nearly impossible to do this, even with the homing. If you take the recoil off of the needler, it's as annoying as the combo. Playing around with any value other than zero produces such screwball results that I think there must be some bug related to a weapon having spread and homing on a projectile that is the real reason the needler is completely worthless, because on paper, the damage output seems very strong. My solution to this way to make the carbine shoot bursts of needler rounds, fixed both weapons at once

Numerically, you have 70 shield, and 35 life. Contrary to popular belief, your health is not back to full strength when your shield recharges. It takes two seconds for your life to start regenerating, and it is much slower than shield regeneration. I haven't been able to find the values for regeneration rate itself. If you were to be damaged to .001 life left, it definitely takes far longer than the time it takes your shield to replenish to full life. I know this for certain because we made a no-autoaim swat type game where you had a 1 hp shield just so you beeped when you got hit, and we noticed that you definitely were not back to full strength by the time you stopped beeping. Thank you bungie for shrouding this information in complete mystery - we have every right to know stuff like this.

Sure, the plasma rifle may seem pretty powerful because it takes shield down quick, but once you factor all the ratios together, it does a whopping 1/4th of the damage to your life than it does your shield (this is pretending that you numerically have equal health and shield, which you don't). No wonder it's utterly impossible to get kills in matchmatching midship without meleeing.

Dual wielding increases spread so much that I seriously doubt it is worthwhile to fire both weapons simultaneously except at point blank. The trigger pumping trick on the SMG doesn't work because it tightens the spread directly, it works because the amount of damage you lose because of the spread is quite depressing. I noticed this because I tried giving the SMG no spread whatsoever and when i fired both guns at the same time, it went back to normal. If you go LRLRLRLR, the spread will use its single wield value. You cannot overlap your pumps at all, so you're not really gaining any damage, you're essentially extending your clip, which doesn't really mean anything either, because of the increased reload time when dual wielding. All these drawbacks to firing two guns at makes me seriously wonder why they bothered including dual wielding in the game at all? MLG has probably made a good call in changing the weapons on map to no duals. The rapid duals are just fundamentally broken, the plasma pistol is...yeah.

Not only do plasma grenades do extra impact damage if you stick them but they do a lot more splash damage as well. I think this may have been changed in an autoupdate, but I am not sure.

For some mysterious reason, the gauss warthog does headshot damage.

Technically, none of the bullets in halo are true hitscan, they are just very fast projectiles. Sniper bullets travel three times faster than BR and smg bullets. BR bullets travel three times as fast as Shotgun bullets. While this may seem like a good idea at first glance, I'm pretty sure it's part of the reason the netcode is so terrible compared to other fps games. It may only add a few milliseconds, but if you've ever played Quake, a few milliseconds can have a huge impact on your railgun accuracy.

I've had a sneaking suspicion for a long time that the red crosshair factor of autoaim was more than just for show. If your reticle is red, it will skip lag and register the hit on your xbox no matter what. I tested this by deliberately lagging my lan as much as possible (essentially standbying myself) in a system link game, then played around with the red dot's values. Bungie should seriously consider extending this range to infinite, and lowering the angle at which it shows up. There is one exception to this. If you die on the host xbox in the lag time between the shot and your death, the hit will not register, but the round won't be on the clip of the dropped weapon, either. They seem to have fixed this bug on the rocket launcher only, because it's probably the only weapon where it would be very evident. I'm not entirely sure how this works out when it's offhost vs offhost, and I can only assume that this all works the same way on xbox live.

Why am I bringing this up? Scoping increases the range of your autoaim, which also means it increases the range at which lag will stop affecting you. No scoping may make you feel super leet, but you're a moron for throwing yourself at the mercy of a bad connection. Unless they're right in your face, just swallow your pride and zoom in. If you're still that stubborn, then you're an even bigger moron if you don't lead the target to compensate for the lag, like you would in a computer fps game. It also means you should use your 10x scope if you've got them in your sights but you don't have a red crosshair. The same applies to the battle rifle at mid/longish range. I've found most people tell you to never use your 10x scope, but I don't think any of these people know how big a deal getting that red dot is. Xbox live games can ping as bad as playing a PC game on dialup.

This is obvious, but I figure I might as well confirm it. Dual wield weapons have a very strong pulling autoaim with a short range, and the BR has a very weak autoaim with a very long range. By switching every weapon to have autoaim equal to the BR, the SMG and PR actually become usable at reasonable distances but still become less good with range. Sometimes I wonder if they've got the values here backwards - it's still possible to land headshots with the BR from a distance when I cut the autoaim range back (on system link, at least) it just takes, you know, skill? In the playtesting we've done with our various mods, The amount of pull you give a weapon seems to have more impact on its strength than messing with the damage values does! I took the scope off the beam rifle and made it kill in one body shot, and it was utterly useless compared to the Halo 1 strength pistol we resurrected into the game

My brother has been telling me the carbine has a wider spread than the BR, but this is not true. They are equal. It's the graphic that's misleading. I switched the BR and Carbine graphics around, and he thought I tightened the spread. I don't know if this is something he came up with on his own, or if this is misinformation in the community.

This has nothing to do with gameplay mechanics, but there is a shader in the game for team colored shields. They are awesome. Why did they take this out? I have no absolutely idea. They were also going to put the jackal shield in as a dual wield weapon, but they took that out too. The first person model covers your whole screen, giving everything a really bright blue tint that makes it hard to see. Guess it's a fair tradeoff for the fact that you're well nigh invincible to anything in your line of sight - bullets do no damage to it whatsoever, haha.

Yea I saw some1 modded it so you could be a jackle with the shield and he had Tartarus' hammer and a gravity gun. The info for all 3 was on the disk its just that they didn't put them in game. There wasn't an animation/skin for the hammer in first person. The same for the gravity gun. I still wonder why they left out that gravity gun.

Just letting everyone know that hasn't gotten my message on Halo 2 that I went back to Game Crazy and got my disc buffed again and now it works properly. The longest time that it now takes me to load a map now is 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes. That means that I'll be seeing you all on Halo 2 more often.

Also, everyone that has a 360 some good news, you can now send text messages on xbox.com to people on Live. Additionally when E3 roles around expect allot of stuff from Microsoft to come up on Xbox Live. So lots of demos, new arcade games, and lots of HD trailers (such as Halo 3, that Microsoft hasn't commented on yet). For info on all the E3 happenings on live go here. Cool

Edit: Speaking of Game Crazy they are now taking preorders for Halo 3 and Chrome Hounds.

Edit 2: Actually, in theory, all you would need to view the text messages that where sent to you on the 360 is a .net passport and you can read and write new ones. So get deleting now so when you get a 360 you won't have 1 billion messages.

I know it's a bit late to see the MyPSWii60 (Sony) press conference live but you can still see the Nintendo one live and for free whether or not you're registered at the site. Here's the link to Game Spots coverage. I suggest you watch it in Firefox instead of Internet Explorer because it just seems to work better in it. If when you go to launch the conference the play/stop/etc buttons are covered by an ad just click the link in the upper right that says change media settings and it'll uncover it. To launch it there's going to be a link on the right to click and if you want to watch the MyPSWii60 (Sony) press conference in its entirety click the Monday tab on the left and then click watch it. Once again you don't even need an account to view all the conference goodness.

My Firefox stopped playing it halfway and I had to switch to IE. ;p

Overall an awesome conference. I'm so getting a Wii.

I think I need to test out tapping the button when firing the needler vs holding it down, if recoil is indeed what makes the gun so worthless.
