question

We don't have Xbox live at home. Can you join a clan without having your own account? I mean if my son (or even myself) was able to play from another location, could he be in the clan? He is a really good Halo player, but if I get Xbox live at home his homework, which is already an issue, will never, ever get finished.

Yeah, if I remember right that was the match on Colossis (sp?). We were matched up three on four and we figured we'd have to find a strong position to guard. It ended up we chose the top level where the air current pushes you up. I picked up a shotgun and beam rifle and traded off between dropping in and nudging the shotgun in someones back or head shoting people with the rifle.

I don't remember who said it, but someone was talking about why I get so many kills... Something about one shot one kill after I capped three people in the head in semi-rapid succession.

It turned out that area we chose to guard had five potential entrances. Two from below up ramps, two on the sides and then the air current. Bruce-y, as I lovingly refer to him, kept coming from my right and I stuck him once or twice, and nova was walking up the ramp from below and I got him. I'll have to look at the map to see where the other two came in though.

Nah, you're probably a 10-11. I'm level 8 now and I think I can get at least 9-10 ...

I've decided I'm going to play a couple ranked games each time I get online. I've gotten into the habit of hopping online, creating a game and inviting the beekeepers because it's a lot more fun for me to play with you guys then it is against random people. Shoot, I'd rather play me against 15 of you, then in some random game.

gamertag

I can get a gamertag, unless you have to have your own account to get one.

Well, the way it works is you have to pay $50 or so dollars (anyone know the actual amount?) to sign up for a years worth of xbox live. With that subscription you get a gamertag. Once you have a gamertag you can log on from anywhere and join a clan or just play with us by adding us to your friends list.

You know, when that happens, it really frustrates me...it's like the person with the bag upload gets an unfair advantage.

It's not $50, more like $49.99 ... Seriously though, if you don't have a headset, you can get a starter kit for $70, which comes with the 12-month card, headset and Crimson Skies. Or you can use a 2-month trial, plus a phoenix butt ugly controller with headset from ebay. I do that ...

I only play ranked games when there are not enough online people on my friends list. I usually get online around 6:00pm Eastern, and few people are online around this time.

ok

so all I need is the x-box live subscription.... do most people use the headset?

I saw a headset, x-box live 3 month subscription and a wireless controller together... is that a good thing to buy? also, we have a bunch of 2- month free trial things, should we start with that?

Definitely start with one of the 2-month free trial things...you can only use those on a new account. You can then tack on any purchased subscriptions to that time. And yes, the headset comes in very handy.

If you don't care for Crimson Skies, I suggest you start with a 2-month trial. If you believe you'll be using Live for some time, get a headset. It's a must if he's gonna play with friends.

I mentioned the phoenix controller, which I use. It's this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41017&item=8147349580&rd=1

Yes, it's ugly. But for this price, I get a headset plus an extra controller for $30 bucks. Not bad ... I'll try to buy a 12-month subscription off of ebay later on. You should be able to get them for less than the retail price of $50 ...

Another suggestion: If you don't care for Crimson Skies, and you haven't already got a headset, pick up the Live Starter Kit (comes with 1-year Live, Crimson Skies game, and original headset) for roughly $50, sell the headset and CS back to the game store (or another, if they give you a better buyback price) and proceed to use the trade-in credit to buy the Halo 2 Edition Headset for probably $10 - $20 more.

The reason I suggest this is that the makers of the Halo 2 Edition Headset is a company called Plantronics. Never heard of 'em? Not surprising, because they don't work in the gaming industry. Their specialty is making headsets. For people who wear them as part of the job description (i.e. Air Traffic Controllers, Help desk receptionists/telemarketers, that sort of thing) and have made the most comfortable earpiece known to man. The problem is that it comes with a hefty price tag, but the suggestion above helps reduce that by a good amount.

$50 is the automatic renewal rate after a year. However, you can enter the code from a 12-month subscription card anytime before that. You can get 12-month cards for as low as $40 right from your local Wally-World. With a little searching online, you can get it shipped to you for even less.
