I've had a few questions about the clans. For clarification, these are two separate clans. They are not two chapters of one whole. Incitatus posts here, but the main focus for his group (The Beekeepers) was the ilovebees community over at Bungie.net. This all resulted in some unnecessary drama. Siege and Crispy decided to make a second clan, the SPDR Ninjas, so they could be sure that the members were all people from this community.

I'm not going to promote one over the other. Both clans are planning on playing matches and having fun together. From the members listed so far, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that some of the Halo players on Incitatus' group are probably more experienced and skilled then those on the Ninjas. If competitive gameplay is your focus, go with The Beekeepers. If you just want to play with your buddies from Unfiction and #beekeepers, join the SPDR Ninjas. A scrimmage between the two groups is in the preplanning stages. You're not commiting yourself to playing any specific matches, etc by joining either group. At this point, they're just a tool to make sure the Ilovebees community can stay together with Halo 2. If you have any questions, send a PM to me, Siege, Crispy or Incitatus. Smile

Well let me clarify the Clan issue:
It was descided that the two clans will function as two soveirgn entities promoting solidarity of the whole. Something like the States, individual, but making up the whole country that is the Nation of Beekeepers.

The BeeKeepers was designed to encompase ALL ILBers. I began Promotion of the clan HERE, amungst the hardcores first. The group was based as a note of eventual evolution on the BK 7th column chapter. But the intent for this clan was to keep us all together for the game.

The others descided that it would be nice to have a clan soley for some of the keepers here and on IRC.
The SPDRNinjas is a more exclusive clan meant for recognized members at these two mediums.

We are going to work together to make sure ALL willing Beekeepers remain a solid functional group in the future.
Weather you choose to join the mass of all beekeepers, at "The BeeKeepers" or apply for exclusive membership at the focused group of the "SPDRNinjas"...
The Important point to stress is as you said: Join one. It's good to stay together. It's good to play together.

As the 100-player limits get breached, we will organize senior Keepers (or Ninjas if you will) to break off and form adjacent clans to work in a similar "state-federal" fashion.

So thats what the deal is. Spread the word.

There is no "applying for exclusive membership" at SPDR Ninjas. If you're reading this, you can join SPDR Ninjas. I have no idea what you're talking about Incitatus.

He's speaking here for The Beekeepers only. SPDR Ninjas has NO association with The Beekeepers or Incitatus.

Actually, i was the one who proplsed the idea of two clans under one name. If you look at the site recently, you notice in the sidebar there is now a panel that says something like "Linked Halo 2 Clans". Emphasis on the plural "clans"

What i said was that we should make individual clans, of which SPDR ninjas would be one. Beekeepers would not be a clan at all, it would just be a central hub for the clans. So it would be like SPDR Ninjas the clan, and Beekeepers the 7th column chapter that keeps track of all the ILB Clans.

Right now I am signed up for both SPDR Ninjas and Beekeepers. I really don't want to have to choose one or the other. Thats why i think one of them should not be a clan at all.

That was my idea, anyway. I dont think it was ever actually "decided" though...

The direction this is going is bad. I can see that now. I have worked on a lot of collaborative internet projects with people, and i say this: This is going to turn sour very soon unless somebody is willing to compromise. I've seen it happen a thousand times. (okay, maybe not a thousand... but at least 10.)

My "plan" calls for a compromise on the part of the people running the beekeepers 7th column chapter. I am asking you to not be a clan and to just be a sort of clan tracker. I think that is the fairest and most forward looking way to go about this, because it accommodates expansion past 100 people without us having to recommission clans into non-clans in mid-operation. Not only that, but i doubt 100 person clans are very good anyway. Im beting the way to go is 30-50 per clan max, because if you have 100 people in a clan then not all of them will be able to play in the same (16 player) matches

I'm not in charge of your chapter, and its not my call. Its just my advice, because a compromise is the best way to avoid hostilities. If you truly want to keep a unified community, I think you should make Beekeepers not a clan, but a clan hub that links to the actual clans themselves.

Just my two cents.

Fauxhammer: I may be mistaken, but it appears that The Beekepers is doing just that...

I saw the section for linked clans... with nothing in it.

I'm guessing that it will eventually show SPDR Ninjas, as well as whatever Incitatus and others choose as the final name for that clan...

That seems like the way to go to me.

After talking to Incitatus and a couple others in the chat, I think I see the problem. People want the beekeepers community to stay together. There are some people that lurked, weren't as involved here, etc who feel left out. On the other side, people want to be able to play with their friends and people they know. So here's my proposal (basically a simplification of FauxHammer and Incitatus). Everyone joins Beekeepers. It's not a clan, but rather a general meeting place where people can discuss Halo 2, the different ilovebees clan leaders (because with the amount of support for the clan ideas we have now, there's going to have to be several) can arrange matches together, etc. This isn't a merging of clans, just a place where the ILB clans can meet. Incitatus doesn't want to be running anything, and he doesn't want to step on any toes. After Tuesday, we can start to organize into different groups. We can't do anything about clans until then anway.

As a disclaimer, I don't speak in official capacity at all. I'm not in charge of anything, I'm just trying to be a diplomat.

Clayfoot > !buy xbox; !buy halo; !buy xbox live >>

I'll use my crewmember name if it is still available, but first I'll have to spend some bucks. I only have Halo PC at present, you see. Sounds like I'll have to spend bucks (more than the cost of the trip to Chicago) to get in on the game. Can anyone think of a way to cut down this budget?

$96 - A pawn shop in town has an xbox for me for $90 + tax
$46 - Halo 2 shipped free at TechDepot
$58 - xbox live starter kit ($40 for a 3 month kit)
-----
$194

I may be able to buy RoboGRIFF's old headset and xbox live plug, if he hasn't put all of his old stuff on eBay already. Then, I'll only have to get an xbox live subscription. Other ideas?

Some games (Like DoA I think) come with 3 free months for new subscribers... And I know a couple of third party periferals that come with 2 months free for new subscribers. (And annother link for comparison shopping... And a different brand) Depending on how many controllers come with the xbox from that pawn shop... I've discovered that it's good to have more then one, and great to have four. So you may as well kill two birds with one stone.

Also... Amazon has a Holiday bundle new that includes 2 games and 2 months free on XBox Live for $150. Sooooo you end up spending about $2 more for one less free month... But your xbox is new and you get two other games in the deal. (That bundle on Amazon is actually through Toys R Us, so if you have one near you may want to check out the store to see if there's a better deal there.)

And if the two games are not games that you want, you can always take them to an EB or a Gamestop and trade them in for store credit. (To put twords something like a 2nd controller or whatever.)

Halo 2 is going to come with a 2 month trial of Live. If you can get RoboGRIFF's communicator, that will save you some intial cash. After the 2 month trial ends, Microsoft charges $5.99 a month plus tax, or you can get a full year renewal card for $40. You also might want to try your local Toys R Us. They're having a 50% off green tag clearance sale, and I've read some reports of Live starter kits showing up in that sale. If you can find one, that will be the communicator, a game (possibly the wonderful Crimson Skies) plus a full year of Live for $25.

If you can swing it, I would recommend buying an Xbox new with a warranty. These things have a high fail rate (I'm on my second), so if you get the used box from a pawn shop, you could be left with a $100 doorstop.

I don't have one yet, but am anticipating getting one soon. I'll probably operate under the name Kazuma, or something similar. See you there!

I don't have Xbox Live yet, but hope to in December. (I'll probably be in clan HBO though... I was going to their site long before this one. Unless HBO gets really crowded.)

As far as bee logos go, don't worry; poking into the bungie.net site and looking at the stats pages (go see them; they're glorious even when half the functionality isn't there yet) I found this emblem in use:

bee or wasp?

So it looks like we're covered. (Don't mind the colours if you don't like 'em... the colours can be adjusted when you set up your identity.)

-- Steve's thinking he might move up that XBL purchase a bit... it looks like it's going to be a BLAST!

I'm "thunderclap 8". I'll be joining the SPDR ninjas once bungie.net comes back online.

Consensus on cheapest Halo 2 / xbox live from scratch?

I took Kirsten's advice to heart: no used xbox's. Maybe, not even refurbished.

Hitshermark's advice on the holiday bundle and/or controllers that come with xbox live was also helpful.

So, the pawn shop is out. Likewise, I'm not paying $120 to get a used one from the local gaming shops. What's my best bet here? Is there a consensus on the cheapest route to play Halo 2, starting from scratch? Here's my current best estimate:
$150 XBox holiday bundle with 2 months xbox live, a headset (maybe), and 2 games I don't want
$ 50 Halo 2, with another 2 months of xbox live
------
$200 for 4 months of xbox live, then $50 or so to keep it up every year.

BTW, I checked on the trade-in value of the holiday bundle games. Both games are on one disc. GameStop said they'd give me $7 credit. Better than nothing, I guess.
