Ah, one more thing. I was still having network problems when trying to join some people's party. That happened with weephun quite a lot and with kaberA today! I think I found a potential solution to these problems! Today, after kaberA couldn't join my party and I couldn't join his, I turned off my firewall (zonealarm pro) and then I could join his party! So, if you're having network problems when joining parties, try to turn off your firewall. It might help!

Me too. I think I tried to accept an invite from you, and was cruelly denied.

Good point about the firewall.

Though anyone can do this really, I was fixing to use my Halo 2 time tomorrow to think up some inspired multiplayer scenarios to play with you guys. I figured if I'm going to make a plethora of them, I might as well get some input.

Anybody have a fun idea they'd like to see us all play? Consider this a "taking all suggestions" post, even though if it's your idea you could just do it yourself... Cool

I was a beta tester also, and had the exact same experience with Mechassault (ummm... Kitfox). I played with some really great guys (road, disco stu), but there were also some mechassault guys that I played with that were pretty nice, but had horrible language...

That's probably my favorite thing about playing with the beekeepers, it's a bunch of great guys and gals that I love to play with and I don't have to worry about every other word being composed of four letters...

totally echoing your sentiments!
And I played with Road a lot too... haven't talked to him for a while, but we connected from the xbox live forums, and he's still on my list... good to see him playing Halo 2 though Smile I think I saw him online a few times...

but I totally agree about the language thing too... it's nice to just be in a casual, fun atmosphere... coarse language just roughs things up... Confused

Arghh.

I can purchase a headset, but the headset requires the xBox Communicator to work, and for some reason that no one seems capable of explaining to me, none of the Best Buys around here carry the Communicator.

I believe that the communicater is not sold separate from the headset. I had wanted to get that Plantronics headset, mainly cause those around-the-ears-behind-the-head headsets makes my wittle ears hurt Crying or Very sad
but couldn't justify buying that AND getting the Plantronics when I'd already have a headset ( ok, ok, my girlfriend would beat me silly for wasting my money, she was already peeved for making her wait with me on the night of Halo 2's release).

Once you have the communicator, you can use lots of available headsets. However, that communicator (and first headset) is going to run you about $30, no matter where or how you buy it. In my area, Target is out of communicator/headsets, and Wal-Mart doesn't even try to stock them. The GameStop store has them for $30, as does Rhino Games and probably EBGames, too. The lowest prices online are $25-$26, but still $32-$33 after shipping. Unless sales tax is well over 10% in your area, you might as well buy it locally.

BTW, are all of you yelling at me when I don't have a headset? Voices don't come through the speakers as they should. I'm always wondering what you're saying to me, if anything. For team events, I just try to pick a task that doesn't require much coordination --like driving a ghost until it blows up. Now, why isn't there a medal for that?

You no longer have to hear his whinning about not having a headset. He's getting my old version, even though i DID NOT recieve the Halo special edition headset as promissed. I will be online this Thur and plan to stay online for the entire weekend.

Good point about the firewall.
I had a separate VOIP device between my cablemodem and router (why yes; my router is on the approved list). I got frequent (3x/hour?) disconnects when that was in place. I get infrequent drops when I take the VOIP box off the network. I tried wiring the Xbox right into the cablemodem, and I got no drops at all, IIRC. Of course, I can't leave the network that way, so I'm swapping cables regularly. Since the most drops occurred during apparently high traffic times, I wonder if plain-old cable IP traffic congestion is causing part of the trouble, too.

Yeah, he saw me playing online with you recently and he said something to the effect of 'How do you know thebruce?'. Road's a pretty cool guy, we actually founded a non-profit organization together, along with Disco stu, after meeting on xbox live. I really should send that story into xbox...

Hmm. We have a router, and then another hub (my parents run a business out of the house and so they have a reasonably extensive network (8 computers)). I probably should plug my computer directly into the router, hmm? I don't know why I haven't -- when we added additional computers and had to get the second device, I didn't notice any significant reduction in speed, so I didn't bother. I'll try it tonight. I didn't set up the network, so I'm not sure if the second device has its own firewall.

Had a great time playing with Waters, Krystyn, Clayfoot, and INCyr last night. That marathon capture the flag on Coagulation was tough, though. While ridiculously hard, the swords on Midship was an absolute blast. Probably the most hectic game I've ever been a part of:

spawn
run to middle
shoot
pick up sword
lunge for kill
get stabbed in the back
repeat

I never know what's happening on Coagulation. Usually, I just run toward one of the markers until someone runs over or snipes me. When that gets old, I try flying/driving over to the enemy base, so they can whack me and steal my ride.
I know what you mean about the swords on such a small level. At some point, I switched to running the deck around the middle, shooting/bashing anyone who crossed my path. Not sure I actually dropped anyone this way, but maybe I prepped a few assists, eh?

Ok, confession time...

I need to apologize to the guys that were in the games with me last night. Krystyn, Fodder, Deviant, Vector, Decepticon, Dasro, NuBee... anyone else I don't remember.

I'm an extremely competitive guy, always have been, but over the last few years I've really been working on toning that down. Last night all my 'toning' got thrown out the window and I apologize for that. I wasn't in a great mood to begin with (and I shouldn't of been doing anything 'competitve' knowing that, since it just makes my mood worse), then not winning a single game did't help. Please, understand I was in no way upset with you guys for beating me, I was just ticked I was playing as wreaklessly as I was.

Then the gasoline for my already burning competitive spirit showed up. I don't take well to trash talk, and when I'm in a bad mood I don't react well to it either. I left quickly last night to avoid saying something I regret, but acting in the way I did is what most dissapoints me.

For that I apologize, and sincerely seek your forgiveness.

Don't sweat it. I personally was getting really irritated at whoever TowelX and that other guy was, just for being way too abrasive. Kindof ruined the atmosphere. Hopefully you're not mad at me for my lame-o attempts at trash-talking you back when I got you back after telling me to "eat it" Wink. At least it made me remember why I never do that. I suck at the trash talk Wink.

Let's see...

[soapbox]

They focus on rural areas, driving local companies out of business. Then, if they don't make enough money in the area, they pull out, leaving a devastated local economy in their wake. Also, they've tried numerous times to purchase historical landmarks to bulldoze to make room for their stores.

Then, there's the state-of-the-art labor policies. State-of-the-art, that is, for 1890 or so. They hired contractors who hired illegal aliens to clean the stores and locked them in at night. They discriminate against women. The *average* wage at Walmart is less than, say, Costco's *lowest* wage. Their employees are not unionized, and, needless to say, they have bitterly opposed any attempt to raise the minimum wage. Their turnover is 44%, which means they have to hire 600,000 new people a year just to remain at their current size.

They feed on the desperation of the poor. You can make money hand over fist and still have decent employment practices. I know. I work at a company (granted, not a retailer, but still...) that is doing *very* well, thank you, and still treats its employees very well. My family has worked with plenty of other companies that treat their employees as if they truly value them (not just hang up posters saying so and put it in their employee handbook) and still have very high profits.

Walmart represents the worst in cynical corporate nihilism. There's no need for it, and no excuse.

And if I have to pay full price in order to avoid supporting companies like Walmart, I will do so and smile while I do it. Or, I'll go to companies like Target or Costco which, while not perfect, don't have anything approaching Walmart's track record.

[/soapbox]

Don't forget about Walmart's recent expansion into Hawaii. They bulldozed a cemetery, which obviously was hotly contested, but because of some "beurocratic" mix-up, have the bodies stored in a refrigerated trailer at the site, and probably won't be able to put them back to rest until next April. How's that for respect.
