Some of the important things I found in Peter's blog...

LA DNA OK

Found in the Orange Marmalade jar:

Peter wrote:
In one of the jars, I found a tiny scroll of paper rolled up and sealed with the same wax used to seal the jars. I broke the seal and unrolled the paper. On it were the letters LA DNA OK scrawled in what appeared to be Steinitz's handwriting. An anagram perhaps?

Peter wrote:
I'm fairly certain the LA DNA OK clue is an anagram for Oakland. California? Too easy. Steinitz would never create such an obvious clue.

Peter wrote:
I realised today that there's been a clue in front of me all this time. I always knew the outline featured on the first urn was significant. Today, when I was looking for other Oaklands on the Internet, I came across Oakland, Nebraska. Then I realised the shape on the urn resembled the state of Nebraska. But what could possibly be there

The First Urn

Peter got a tattoo of the first urn (see pic below):

Peter wrote:
At least I had the presence of mind to get it in black and white. I'm not sure if colour plays a role in the puzzle yet. Better to be safe than sorry.

HIDEOUS NERD THREATENS HOT

Peter wrote:
So I deliberately spilled more tea and my hunch was right. Steinitz had used a simple trick to bury a clue. When the blotter was wet, a message appeared that read: HIDEOUS NERD THREATENS HOT.

Mary Queen of Scots

Peter wrote:
I think the woman etched on the urn may be Mary Queen of Scots. But what possible connection could she have to the urns?

Peter wrote:
Couldn't get the whole Mary Queen of Scots thing out of my head. It seems the good Queen communicated in code with some followers using coded symbols...

Dinner Party Menu Card (Xavier claims he planted this)

Peter wrote:
The first letter of each of the menu items spells out "K-H-E-P-E-R-A." Excited, I ran to the library and turned on the computer. I could hardly wait for it to warm up. When I entered a search for the name, it led me to "khepri," the Egyptian scarab god. It was then that I realised that the smudged image on the menu was comprised of decorative lines and curlicues resembling a beetle in the spot where they converged (similar to the "hidden" pictures in the lines on a dollar bill).

I dug deeper. It seems the scarab lays its eggs in dung and rolls it into a safe hiding place. Since this was the place from which new life emerged, the Egyptians surmised that Khephri mimicked the scarab's behaviour, rolling the sun like a huge ball through the sky. Thus, each new morning Khephri renewed its gift of life to all the world.

Could this beetle-sun god connection have something to do with the "Sun-God" Steinitz allegedly encountered while living with the Nanahsnug tribe? Maybe this was what I'd been looking for, the link to solving the second urn puzzle. I could hardly contain myself. My fingers flew across the keyboard with the deftness of a concert pianist. Further research revealed that khepri has also been associated with solar eclipses. When I looked back in my notes, I realized that there had been a solar eclipse on September 11, 1969, the month before Steinitz's puzzle dinner party. Apparently the path of the annular eclipse (vantage points from which the eclipse is total) was over Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil, all places in South America, where Steinitz lived with the tribe and encountered the Sun-God. And Brazil is the birthplace of Vitor Meireles, the painter of "The Battle of Guararapes." Could there be a connection? My mind was racing. When I looked up from the keyboard, I realised the sun had come up.

I can answer that: nothing! Smile Hmm. I don't really plan on following this ARG. I'm way too busy as it is, and Orbicon and PS are coming up. However, if anyone needs me go somewhere in the state to pick anything up, talk to anyone, or do anything, I can probably accomodate.

I get really excited whenever someone mentions Nebraska, because honestly, when do you hear about Nebraska in the media? Anyway, the email's bdetweiler at gmail dot com. Shoot me a mail if anyone here needs assistance from someone with a geographical advantage (that's me!... for once).

Well, seems to me that there is one direction that is obviously missing: West. Maybe that's part of it.
