[META] After-the-Fact Questions.

At the end of the Q&A session with the PM's yesterday, Elan invited anyone who hadn't had their question answered to email her. If you emailed and got an answer, post it here.

Mine:
Q: Where did you get your inspiration for Coral's culture, and why?
Also, where did the "dog" sayings come from?

A: Between 9/11 and the war in Iraq, there has been a lot of floating
anti-muslim sentiment around; a lot of people tarred with the brush of the
jihading extremists. Although nobody on the team is muslim, it seemed like
not a bad idea to have a sympathetic character from a vaguely muslim
background: hence Coral.

As for the Dog reference, we were trying to create a sense that Sophie and
Kamal had a shared cultural background, with its own sayings and traditions
(partly because when we just couldn't find a way to play Kamal with an
accent that wasn't too disruptive to listen to.) Something like the Brer
Rabbit stories, maybe, or Aesop's fables. Sean and Maureen talked it over;
the actual phrase is what, according the Maureen, is her crazed dachsund's
expression when accused of wrong-doing--"Not me--it must have been another
dog who looks just like me."

Him, and I think this might be a better fit in the Interaction area. Just a thought.
