PM Tips

-Junk mail filters are a blessing and a curse. Lots of legitimate player mail has been coming into my junk box. Make sure to check it every day to see that nothing's been placed there by accident.
-Some programs place an attribution when you save the source from another site.
-Sometimes referrer logs can pick up what site you navigated from, even if you didn't follow a direct link.
-Meta information is killer. Check your jpgs, pdf files, Word docs, etc. Digital cameras report all sorts of information about you.
-Be careful when forwarding mail from a character to your own address - if it bounces, you're exposed.
-Turn off HTML images in your email to prevent someone inserting an invisible image to check their referrer logs.
-Never underestimate the amount of time it takes to do the simplest of tasks. Researching one small item due to go out in an email, or an update can sometimes take hours (to keep your story cohesive and consistent).
-There is no such thing as "Too Much Proofing".
-You have to be ready to read critical comments (and bite your tongue when you write a puzzle that folks make a mistake in transcribing and blame it on a PM mistake). : P
-Have a ton of good humor and learn to laugh off mistakes that can't be changed, and adapt to those that can.
-If at all possible set up autoresponders for _everything_. Sending out 150+ form letters by hand sucks.

I'd also add:

- One of the biggest incentives to staying the hell OUT of IRC chat while your players are going at it is the fact that it's WAAAY too easy to get WHOIS'ed if you don't know what you're doing. Be especially careful to cover your tracks if you happen to simultaneously be in the player AND PM channels at the same time. Rolling Eyes D'oh.

hehe Wink

If I had to add anything (although this is coming from experience as a player rather than a PM) it's :

-Make sure players focus on the right part. Let them know what's important to research/participate in and what's just extra frill to add a little more realism.
