Everyone has a different play style for Halo1

Yes, that's one cool thing on Halo1! But it's also a big reason why some people are complaining! They played for 1/2 day and were expecting to use the same tactics and style! You need to adjust and experiment to see what works, just like we all did when we played Halo 1 for the first time!

Honestly, reading some people complaining about this kind of stuff is a good sign that shows Halo 2 is not Halo 1.5 like some people had hoped for.

Exactly. And I wish people would quit whining about the freaking pistol. The pistol in H1 was a joke. "Oh hi, I'm a cyborg super-soldier who can kill hundreds of aliens on my own, can take shot after shot from plasma rifles and machine guns, but hit me twice at extremely far range with a pistol, and I die!" That was the worst thing about H1 and I'm glad they changed it. The handgun is now what it should be--only slightly better than using your fists.

The pistol in H2 is more rapidfire than the H1 pistol, it can be dual wielded, and it's much more accurate than full-auto SMG. They're quite ferocious at close to mid range, they just dont have any sniping potential anymore. Of course, dual Plasma Rifles do pretty much the same thing and are probably better.

The funny thing about people who complain about the lack of M6D Pistol in Halo2 is that there's a weapon that performs exactly the same function. If you took a Halo1 M6D, and turned every shot into a 3-shot burst, it would be the same thing as the Halo2 Battle Rifle.

I'm enjoying Halo2 a lot. I think a lot of people are pissed because the storyline
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
is nothing like what you would expect based on Halo1, H2 previews, and ILB. Also, it seems like you spend as much time playing an Elite as Master Chief. I like that though - as Durga said, "Everyone loves surprises". Sadly, not everyone shares Durga's point of view.

One thing I find funny in Halo2 is how the Plasma Sword
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
has pretty much made the Shotgun obsolete. Sure, the Shotty has its uses, but the Sword is generally superior. If you're close enough that the shotgun would deal decent damage, you're close enough to use the lunge attack; and the Sword swings much faster than the Shotgun can shoot. Swords are much cooler too, and the Flood explode when you hit them with a sword. The only two close-range situations where you'd use a Shotty over a Sword is against Carrier Flood, and against Hunters. With their new variety of melee attacks, Hunters remind me of Ninja Gaiden bosses. Meleeing them is pretty suicidal now, unless you are really good at it.

i've played through a few levels of Halo2, and while cool, I wasn't impressed to the level I thought I would be. I think of it as an expansion pack to Halo1...some new features, slightly better graphics, and re-balancing.
so i overall give it a 7/10...with most of that coming from the fun/cool single player.
i say worth buying, playing, having fun with, but not worth all the hype.

and yeah, the pistol in halo1 was horrible. no reason it should have ever been that powerful....but i want my assault rifle back!

Yeah, no kidding-- I don't know WHAT everyone hated so much about it, other than its slight under-poweredness

Dear Bungie,

I am severely disappointed in your product, "Halo 2". After applying Halo 2 to my wash, my whites did not come out whiter, and my supposedly colorfast cottons have bled. Also, when adding Halo 2 to my gas tank, it clearly did not "knock out the knocks" nor did it improve my gas mileage. Finally, I wish to add that Halo 2's contraceptive properties are severely lacking.

Please find enclosed one "used" Halo 2 disc. I expect a full reimbursement within 6 to 8 weeks.

Sincerely,
Fanboy

(to add on to Checksum's..errr..Fanboys's letter Wink )

...and it still won't make me dinner. In fact, I haven't eaten anything for 2 days now because, even though I bitch to no end about this game, I can't stop playing it. Heck, with the energy sword I can pwn just about anyone in xbl multiplayer. My stats rock, but the game still sux0rs.

In Spite,
Fanboy

Just a comment on multiplayer and the energy sword
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Is it just me or is the lunge attack a little out of balance? To understand what I mean play split screen VS or xbl head to head. Try to take out a guy with a sword. I lost to a guy yesterday because I couldn't kill him while he had the sword. I'd be blasting away at him, and he'd be a good 20 yards or more away then BOOM! he lunge attacks and is on top of me before I can react. Even if you try to run they can get you. Yes I'm not the best at multiplayer. He won fair and square but it ticked me off. In fact, I refuse to use the sword in multiplayer unless it is a swords only matchup.[/endrant]

This is good advice in general. No need to limit it just to HALO 2 talk.

You said it. That place is a hell hole.

I haven't had that problem, but I tend to back away while firing at the head.

Sorry but most of this post is going to be spoiler mode. I finished the campaign mode so here goes:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First I finished in 9 hours - Bungie intended a 20 hour gameplay - I did explore every nook and cranny too BTW. Not that I am faulting them at all. It just became quickly apparent that this game was designed for multiplayer. And I believe that's where a lot of people get peeved about the game. I have to admit, I was dissapointed that the E3 Demo sequence was not in the game as well as a few other little trailer pieces too. But enough knocking......

As a whole I was greatly impressed by the detail work that went into this game and made it visually electrifying. Did anyone notice in co-op or multiplayer modes you can actually see your reflection in Mst. Chf visor? Or how shiny certain thing are in the game with the newly modeled surface designed to show off the smooth curves that the XBOX graphics engine is capable of. Or even the physics that have been retooled to be a bit more realistic, how the sounds change from environment to environment and even based on your surrounding room or field size. Bungie has trluy raised the bar across the board on this one. But not in the way that most expect. This is an all-new game. This, as mentioned, is not Halo 1.5

Even the storyline has dramtically changed:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I was not expecting to play as an Elite - neat treat! Learning the reasoning behind what had happend on Installation 04 from the Covenent view was quite enlightening. Not to mention shed some light on the whole religious idealology that they have and the blind faith. The introduction of the new creature is sure to be an interesting development in Halo 3 and beyond ("I am the culmination of all your sins..."[loose paraphrase after no sleep in 18 hours] - Had to force my jaw shut at this point...) The entrance of the Prophets into the game and the political agenda of the Prophet of Truth was a nice twist - as was the death of the other 2 to further his agenda. I was a bit dissapoint by the ending as it seemed lacking in my eyes. That was before realizing the expectation I had built for myself as to how the game should end and what outcome I should see. So, my own stupid fault there I guess. I had hoped that it would have gone a little more in depth with the "Arc" that 343 mentioned. (Hmmm... "Arc of the Covenant" and maybe it's the artifact - remote detonator) and where it was. But again that desire was based on my own hopes of seeing a tie in with ILB and getting back to save Earth. When the storyline is looked at as a whole, it was quite edifying really. It covered a few missed parts of the Human story and opened a whole new door with the Covenant view and the internal strife going on there.
...and as an good story goes as we have learned in ILB, left me with more questions than answers.

Let's remember something- although I do love the game and think it has surpassed the multitudes expectations in many ways, Bungie had a deadline. That deadline was caused by our screams to PLAY NOW! Had they not been pressured to get it out maybe some of you that had yelled about the delay in getting it out would not subsequently be whining now about how terrible it is. You created your own mousetrap this time.

For the rest of us though that have seen the time, effort, and skill that went into this development - all we can do is say, "Well maybe next time. After all look at what they did in the 2nd edition - imagine what they will do in the 3rd...

So, with that, I tip my hat to the Bungie demi-gods with a heartfelt well-done! Followed with an anxious yearning for Halo 3 - and the next viral marketing campaign. (Heck, this one worked so well why wouldn't they do another!)[/spoiler]

I love reading how people have reacted to this game. I was uber-excited like everyone else and I had a very weird experience the first time I played it because of that. To be honest I think I was hoping for Halo 1.5. Same fun, just more of it. Instead I got an entirely new Halo (Halo 2) and it caught me off guard at first. I wrote an article about it on my blog. I won't reproduce it here, click it if you want, it's spoiler free.

In the article I don't mention the exact point at which I changed from: I'm not sure how I feel about this to holy crap, this is incredible.

Here it is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The levels on the new Halo ring. I think it was because I finally had something sort of familiar to compare it to. After that I started thinking about all of the things that had changed and how much I actually loved them.

Did anyone else have a similar experience to mine? Two of my friends said the same thing when I talked to them about it.

edit: spelling

Yeah, I was a little unsure at first: This is unfamiliar, don't like these new weapons, want my nice, smooth, bright, old Halo back.

And then, suddenly:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm playing an Elite! The station is falling through a planetary storm! Yee-hah!

See, that's why I gotta keep hoofing it on the campaign, instead of getting slaughtered on multi. Those spoiler boxes HAUNT me.

Yes, but that's why people should not draw any conclusion after playing it for a day, like people are doing on bungie.net and gamefaqs! The game IS AWESOME! And the fact that it's not halo 1.5, to me, is a huge plus!

This game is truly incredible! I have only recently begun to apprecite the 1st halo, but I am hooked here! Will it completely replace halo1 in multiplay? Not entirely... I still like many of the different things/maps of 1, but that is not because of a lack in 2!
