One last thing - let's thank the PMs. Really thank them.

Hi guys,

I've been following this game for four months now, and I've been stuck overseas which has left me feeling rather isolated when it comes to participating in this game. I've watched people hunt axons, and I've speculated on the meaning of the story as have we all. However, I would like to do, or at least start something before this is all over and it's too late. Something substantial, something real. And so I am going to start this thread.

I have an idea.

I would like to propose that, for starters, we write an open "Thank you" letter to the PMs. Nothing so scattered as the many 'Thank you' threads that have come and gone. I mean something from all of us, something meaningful that they can stick on the corkboard and look at from time to time, just as we are all going to look at those DVDs and lanyards that have been given to us. Let's create something they won't forget, as they have created something unforgettable for us.

I'm not going to be so presumptuous as to just write a letter right now and expect you all to sign on, so I will simply leave you with the proposition. I think it would be a grand gesture from us all as a community, a way of showing the PMs that they aren't the only ones who can write an emotional goodbye. I want them to have something to look at and remember us, just as we can remember them.

The wonderful thing about this game for so many of us experiencing this type of game for the very first time was the boundaries it crossed. It crossed over into the real world and became something real, something amazing. Let's do that too. Let's make this real, and make it amazing for them. We can gather ideas here, put them into a single, cohesive letter. Attach our names to it. Who knows, maybe print it, on some nice paper, and mail it to 4orty2wo. If we have time, perhaps someone can cut out some letters:

W - E - L - O - V - E - I - L - O - V - E - B - E - E - S

Bring your thoughts and your ideas. We have shown such promise as a group that we have surpassed all of the challenges presented to us by the PMs. Let's set ourselves a challenge here, and let's excel once more. Let's use the coordination and the cooperation that Melissa taught us.

What do you all think? Can we pull together as a team - as a community - one last time?

If you search there's some GREAT poems (by shad0, hitshermark i think.. some real gems) written about ILB, and other great works

I think a simple, elegant creation would do, though... maybe have a thank you website for them to visit, with more info than a letter could provide? Who knows, maybe they might appreciate the insight into the people they market to Smile

I concur! The production values here have really been top notch. They deserve a nice thank you note. And lets not forget Bungie. I sure hope they authorize more things like this in the future *hint hint*

I love I love bees. heh.

As a Canadian, I also missed out on the interactive side of things... but still enjoyed this experience far more than I ever thought I would. This was my first taste of anything ARG related, and it blew me away. I became so drawn up in the drama that unfolded with our favorite characters that I've spent several days at my desk at work with headphones on listening to the audio clips... I'd take them off to get some work done and realize I spent the last 2 hours spaced out listening to the story, playing the video in my head.

I digress. To the PMs: THANK YOU! Very Happy

The same goes for everyone even remotely involved in this spectacular event! (That includes all of you here on the forum. This place has become a mandatory read after each and every audio clip being released).

I can't say enough good things about the quality and creativeness of this project. I hope those involved feel the appreciation that myself and so many hundreds of others feel towards them.

Thank you. Really.

- Ryan

The above suggestions reminded me of something from chat...
(taken from chat log on 23/08/2004, edited down to something readable)
Quote:
<NoodleBoy> i'm kinda curious about whats happening this tuesday

<Malrog> but zallus has a heck of a story to tell, I'm impressed he's not just gonna post a link

<NoodleBoy> zallus, please, enlighten us

<zallus> Aye. First, there was the honey. And it was sweet.

<zallus> And then, Bungie said: "Let there be letters!". And they were in the honey.

<zallus> And Bungie mailed the honey, express, to several people, who had a certain predelection. But not for honey, no.

<zallus> These people knew of the alternate realities, beyond those dreampt of by Phillip K. Dick. These people were ARGers.

<zallus> And the Halo trailer came down from the HQ, and said to the people, "Let them see ilovebees.com"!
<zallus> And they did. And it was screwed up.

<zallus> And the people formed a channel to discuss it. And then another, and another. Soon, the original topic of the first channel had been lost, and was replaced with meaningless discussions of Republicans, shemales, and making fun of the Olympics.

<zallus> Then, the people saw the channel. And they rose up, and created the wiki. And it was useful. And there was a TinyURL for it.
<zallus> And lo, a great swarm of Halo fans emerged, worshipping their false Release-Date idols.
<zallus> And they quickly were smote by the great catherwood, a disciple of the faith.
* zallus pauses, pants
<BiotronX> dont forget their chants for single player demos
<Malrog> others besides catherwood also participated in the smiting surely?
* zallus is getting to the political part

<zallus> Soon, the people began to call the Game "The Beast 2", and connections to Microsoft were made. Thus, anagrams were born, not of the faith, but of vile evils unbeknownst to mortals. Such things spoke of the SPDR warning message, and more Halo 2 was imbibed by the masses.

<zallus> Then, surely, conversation turned to the Liberal Media, as fueled by the unholy trinity: Siege88, WarBunney, and Crispy. And the non-sarcasm-tolerating ops soon spake, and the trinity was silenced.
<zallus> And then there was Zeal.
<zallus> And ScrappyDoo became evermore irritated by Zeal, and finally banished him from the Temple, never to be heard from again.

* zallus is interspersing chat-legend with story-legend

<zallus> Thus, the countdown was reached, and the message was read off the wall. The metastasis was complete.
<zallus> The coordinates appeared, and no one seemed to agree. All communication broke down for what seemed like an eternity (but turned out to be a few seconds), and one voice cut through the crowd. "Go forth", the voice said, "and visit these locations. There shall surely be a geocache waiting therein."

<zallus> And, one by one, people visited the coordinates, and they were mapped. And the wiki filled, first with sparsity, and then with bounty. Soon the maps numbered three, all with different goals. And it was good. But, like any good hunt, nothing was immediately found. The geocache was kept in the mind of the Disciples, but none dared mention its name once more.
<zallus> The coordinates were appearing as public places: libraries, town squares, museums, etc.

<zallus> And one Disciple returned, and said: "There is a Blockbuster there. And I have taken a photograph!", and indeed he had. And we all knew what a Blockbuster looked like.

<zallus> Then the great Bungie crept into the Site, at the latest of night, and one of the coordinates was different. Where once had been ocean, there was now Berkley. And a story was composed by them, fictional characters used as a shield to excuse their actions.

* zallus thinks about what happened next

<zallus> And the chat was again misdirected, the coordinates linked in dozens of different ways. And the shape was a rendition of a Unicorn. And it was ugly.

<zallus> Soon, the 404 was updated, proclaiming for one and all to see, that one would be chosen, their questions answered by the noble Daughter, and it was funny. And there was a poll.

<zallus> Now, as the answer looms vast, china long forgotten, we wonder what fate lies in store for our [hot] protaganist. Will the noble Mother phone the Blockbuster? Will the PeepleBot ever get a beer? Stay tuned for Act 2!

* zallus wants to go into the future, so he can write a "Beekeeper's Bible, the New Testament"

I like the idea.

After listening to the thanks.wav though, I think that's the best way to go. We could each record a .wav thanking Melissa (and / or 4orty 2wo), and summarizeg our experiences with ILB. Then we could compile them all on a CD and burn a set of them to mail off to the company.

So much of this experience was so deeply personal for so many of us that I think our own words - in our own voices - is the most suitable media for such a message.

I hereby volunteer to help organize this thing (whether we use the .wav idea or something else).

I like that idea. A lot.

Although it's going to be embarrassing hearing my voice choke up when I say goodbye. Confused

Perhaps also have a ILB-styled page which you can download them from? Themed in the style of recipeX.html?

I've got a whole stack of webspace (500MB or so), and unlimited transfer.

I can host the page/files, if needed.

And I'll stick my own "Goodbye" up there, too.

Perhaps have them like the "Confidential" files on Recipie3.htm, with the "Name" being a word or two from the file, and the "Unlock code" being the person's name/handle/rank/IRC nick/Forum Username.

Just an idea.

I think that was already done.. ILoveBeer was a parody, sure, but it was also a clever little thank you to the PMs of the real ILB, even if they didn't know who it was they were thanking...

I'm in... assuming that I can remember how to jack a mic into my system at home. Perhaps I should get a better mic, too... hmm...
