Maybe they scrapped the Earth-central storyline in order to allow time to put ILB content into the game. Yes, yes, that is it. We will see Durga and Jan etc. as well as portions of our conversations with melissa/sp in the game. They changed it all just for us!

Okay, maybe not.

I get the feeling that

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The way Bungie had planned it was that most of the conflict took place on Earth. They had a storyline model set up and based the E3 demo off it. However, then I bet they were hit with quite a few factors that made them have to change how things ended out in the Halo 2 storyline. It's my belief that the "Covenant attack Earth All-Out" story was confusing even for the real fanatics of the game, let alone people new to the universe. So, they had to cut off a lot and add a lot to make Halo 3 an all-out attack on Earth, and most of the gameplay falling in a metropolis kind of theme. Some of the things we learnt in Halo 2 and that we were introduced to would not have been there if the covenant attacked Earth all out right at the start. We had to get introduced to the concepts they were planning on having in Halo 2, but had to change because they weren't explained in the best way. e.g, the Covenant heirachy and views.

That, or they wanted a big twist, not a 'mindless shooter'. The fighting takes a backseat to the story this time, and I for one am glad.

Or even, they wanted a larger emphasis on the Flood-which, by the looks of things, will have a massive part in Halo 3.

And as for what Bungie has said about Halo 3 exactly so far is confusing. I have read Bungie employees say on their website that they were NOT planning on doing a Halo 3 yet, and were going to do something different. Others have said Halo 3 has been discussed. Others have said Halo 3 is already in production! I really think Bungie is trying to worry us and keep us confused, they seem to like to do that a lot. Personally, I think they would be crazy not to make a Halo 3 after what they did with Halo 2. The record sales...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
and to be continued ending

... just scream 'make Halo 3 dammit!' I could imagine Microsoft would want to make Halo 3 a launch title. Another thing they would be crazy not to do. Halo is what made the XBOX great, and seems to be putting more emphasis on the XBOX console than the PS2 or Gamecube in the news recently.

I do believe that it's possible for them to make 2 games at once, I don't know the likelihood, but it is possible. It's like the way they did the LOTR trilogy..Film all three while you have the actors, then go through after and do the CG for each one and release them in succession.

[Spec] Maybe they did all the voice acting all at once and have been piggybacking another release of Halo to follow Halo2. This, to Bungie, may not be considered "the next game they work on". *shrug* who knows, maybe the Feb 9th ending in legendary does exist.[/spec]

It's highly possible - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, coming out this month for x-box, was in production for several months before they even finished the first one! And that took less than a year for a turnaround to release date, and it's shaping up to be better than the first one. So, I guess that, with those three years of spare time on their hands, Bungie could have done both of them, and be finishing the third one up right now. But, there is one thing that bothers me about that...

If it comes out in febuary, if that febuary 9th quote is true, then there IS one thing that bothers me about it, majorly bothers me.

Microsoft, despite what some may say (those idiots), wants money. How do you get money? Ads. Announcements. If, indeed, Halo 3 was to come out soon, we would have heard something about it by now. Anything. A subtle slip into an interview - "Yeah, halo 3 is coming soon. very soon." - or a full blown press conference. But have we? No. Will we? If they DO make it, yes. Microsoft, unless they're entierly stupid, which when it comes to marketing, they're not, would not let this go by without a sound. Halo 3 would need SOME advertisement. No one would expect that quick of a turnaround in a third game. And I have no idea where the hell I'm going with this, so I'm just gonna shut up now.

If it is Halo 3, it won't be february 9th. Nothing has that short of a turnaround except for Matrix 2 -> 3... and we all know how they went Razz
If, hypothetically, a game is released on 2/9, it would at most be an addon, a download, an addition to Halo 2... but oh man... as if the release of a Halo 1.5 to tide people over was enough, now we have rumours of another possible early release of an intermediate game, essencially Halo 2.5... *sigh/shakes head*

edit: which, BTW, I don't believe will happen

Yes we do... Rolling Eyes

I don't think it will happen either, I was entertaining the fact that it is possible.

Halo 1.5? Was that the PC version?

And as for the Feb. 9th thing, I believed it at first (that it showed up in the credits) but I've never known Bungie to actively lie about anything. So if they say it's not there, then I'm going to believe them until I see a screenshot/movie or see it for myself.

And if it does exist, as much as I'd like to believe that it's the second half to Halo2, I'd be more willing to believe that it's a trailer for Halo3 or Bungie's next game.

However, if Bungie is NOT producing Halo3, and/or someone else IS, I'm going to be very sad. I hate it when games, especially games as renowned as this, change company hands. Just like I'd hate it if someone other than Hideo Kojima took over the MGS series. Sure, it might be as good/better, but it wouldn't be the same. So I'm hoping Halo3 is in the works, and just being put off for Bungies next game.

there was no Halo 1.5... the rumour was that Bungie should, or would, release an intermediate game - Halo 1 but with a little more - to tide people over until Halo 2. And (if you recall) when August 24th was discovered, the rumours abounded about that being the release of either a Halo 1.5 or early Halo 2... so...

Quote:

Technically, from what I read all over the net, Bungie hasn't lied, but hasn't told the truth. There are conflicting reports of comments from them that could be taken either way, but none of which are definitive one way or the other... or something like that Smile They can be known to bend the truth...

My problem is that if they continuously purposely attempt to twist the truth to deceive the public, personally I think it's fun, but shareholders being continuously shrown off course is not a smart thing for the company...

ditto

I find it hard to believe that Bungie, in NO way, will continue the story. Whether there's a Halo 3 at all, I don't know... but I'm 99% confident there will be at least another book, or some kind of media released that will continue the story... they would be utter fools not to...

I think you're very close. My spec:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If Halo 2 had been the all-out attack on Earth, especially given the data from the ILB and novel storylines, the plot would have collapsed under a simple question: Why didn't the Covenant just show up and glass the place like the colonies?

With the ILB ending, we know that they were led here by an artifact. With the beginning of Halo 2, we realize the artifact was likely a beacon to something more important, and they didn't glass Earth on sight because they wanted what was supposedly on Earth - hence, they tried a conventional assault and got hosed. (Hello, welcome to our world! *BLAM BLAM BLAM BOOOOM*)

Now, at the end of Halo 2, we see that the Earth is the Ark (where the Forerunner ship, with Master Chief in tow, appears out of slipspace), and now the Covenant *have* to do a big frontal assault because sealing off the remote detonator towards their Great Journey under a layer of melted silicon is not an option for them.

One can also note from the DVD the technical difficulties, as stages started getting too big for the system specs. Given the odd crosstalk (though it is noted on Bungie's website that Frankie's a liar), I am led to believe that Halo 3 is in production, but likely for the X-BOX2. Also, while substantiating the February 9 data hasn't taken place yet, I would suspect that, if it has been placed in the manner of the August 24 date, you can expect similar results....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
...which, if you recall, involved people flying around answering payphones.

And now, I wait for everything I just said to be invalidated in the near future! Isn't [SPEC] fun? Confused

Halo 3 IS coming. It is really the only thing when you consider these facts:

1. Bungie likes Trilogies
2. Halo 2 had a horribly cliffhanger ending
3. Games make more money than books
4. Fans would mob Bungie Studios if they don't have an Earth Invasion

Now, here's the thing...what IF...they were already working on Halo 3? What if they made Halo 2 and Halo 3 at the same time, and are waiting for people to get used to the new system in Halo 2 before releasing Halo 3?

I can't find the release at the moment, but a while back Steve Balmer (Microsoft's CEO) made a statement in a speach that they were at work on Halo2 AND Halo3 which Bungie quickly denied... I think that's all you need to know as to the intentions of MS

Ooh, a puzzle.
Perhaps it's reg(ister)nevah(never)
or even H-Avenger backwards. (is that like Preparation-H Avenger?)
