I think the source of your confusion lies in two things: 1) not being up-to-date on all that has transpired via the many posts here in the forums and/or the websites and 2) assuming things without this important knowledge to fill in the gaps.

Dale's accident was on the 14th. He was released from the hospital on the 18th. He'd wasn't committed until ten days later. With Dale's wife dead and apparently no other living relatives, Bruce, allegedly a close friend, was given Power of Attorney by Dale. In other words, Bruce took legal responsibility for Dale's well-being financially. In essence, its pretty much the same as adopting a full-grown man who is deemed incapable of taking care of himself.

Dale had no idea Bruce would stab him in the back ten days later by locking him in a nuthouse, he hadn't even been reading his email because he was emotionally distraught. Seeing as they were college friends, I'd assume they'd known each other for at least a decade. I've had friends for twice that length and none of them would lock me up in a nuthouse so yeah, I think there's more to Bruce's decision than believing Dale would harm himself or someone else.

Since Diana was planning a divorce and the medical records we uncover show that Diana had a doctor's appointmentr ten days prior to the accident, the current spec is that Bruce was having an affair with Diana and probably knocked her up.

It is also believed that Dale met the loan sharks through Bruce when he worked at Anonymous Fame.

As for why Dale would have contacted Sam to handle the website, the death of his wife and daughter is the obvious answer. He was obviously in no mood to handle the websites or his failing business what with his family dying and some loan sharks coming after him.

As for "not letting them get you", where are you going to run in the U.S.? With Power of Attorney, the cops would have been helping the men in white coats to take him away. He'd never have made it out of the state let alone the country. Also remember that he had not read his email so he didn't know they were coming for him until it was near too late. We don't know if he tried to make a run out the back door or not. We just know that they had come for him so likely there was a struggle, we just don't have evidence.

The Power of Attorney was given to Bruce as a requirement of Dale's release from Greatwater because of Dale's story about the wish. Dale''s diary ends on the 20th but according to Bruce's email of the 28th Dale was spreading his story around town and there was some incident with a store owner - probably either Wes or at the Hollow Needle. Maybe he went on the first Devil field trip, whatever, he was talking "crazy" around town. I think Dale knew how his behavior was viewed by most others and it was just a matter of time before Bruce put him away. His final "stunt" required Bruce interceeding to shut him up. Dale knew all along that this might happen so he made sure to get his e-mail out and have Sam as his potential link to the outside world and for work. Dale didn't put the info up for himself because he knew he probably wouldn't have internet access he put it up for someone else to see. His hope that someone else would carry on for him. That Sam has control of his e-mail and all these agencies are e-mailing Dale is a bonus. Though why the hospital that is holding him is emailing doesn't make much sence.

I think all the rest makes perfect sence in context to Dale's thinking.
