paintover see, I found unfiction after the first game had ended, but I have seen grown men in chat seem to roll up into little balls at the word "paintover"
I have no idea where to go with this one, and, Ehsan, I didn't know that
ventimiglia is an English word either.

The ARGN MU graveyard for paintover just has that one picture? Aww. It's too bad the "book" is offline now.
Also, what does ventimiglia mean? Google informs me that it has something to do with Catholicism and Italy, but what's the MU connection?

For those who didn't play Mu, the paintover puzzles were a seriers of pictures posted every once in a while, which lead to a group of files.
Certain elements in the image would always lead as to a group of files. There would be some text which is a quote with a missing word, and some imagery. The background would give us the URL or the subfolder. For example, if the picture was of a flower and the missing word was bees, you would look in /flower/bees.txt
Then you need a username and password. The username is the person who said the quote, and the password is another element of the image.
Now what I have so far:
username: Vincent van Gogh (or part of the name)
filename: line.extension
What we're missing: subfolder and password
Elements to decipher: The latin text on top of the image, what the actual image is, and the little symbols on the border of the image.

observations I don't know the MU connection, I thought it was referring to the town in Italy called Ventimiglia.
for the record: I translate the latin on the relevant page as meaning literally:
= is truthfulness or is truth
= "when thorough consideration we." or "when we consider thoroughly"
maybe this was from the MU game too.
I note that the date is
( are we taking forever on this one?)
and the notation is

Because I'm sad about the original being gone:
(there were lots of other pictures, but this is the only one I have with the whole page visible, for pretty comparison purposes.)

text so in this instance is the quote we need to find the missing word from
the english:
Quote:
you must choose your own, as I hope to do, and it will probably be color
or do you have it already as you know it is Van Gogh?

They look like letters to me. Starting "I will...." maybe?
Rose: The missing word is "line"
You can't be at the pole and the equator at the same time. You must choose your own line , as I hope to do, and it will probably be color.
:: Vincent van Gogh
Omnie: What was the answer to the pic you posted? Maybe that would help us non-MU people to get a better feel.

The missing word is line ("you must choose your own line"), so that's the filename..
Now to figure out that image.. looks like the blair witch logo to me.. that's probably the password.. What's that in the background? I tried /grate/ and /sewer/ .. no luck..

Ooo, the puzzles are getting really MU-ish now.
Hmm, why does it say "A Totallers.Nonsense Production. Copyright © 2004" with "Totallers.Nonsense" in lighter words at the bottom? Must mean something.

It's an anagram of lessonstolearn.net. (Like "Tavern Pointe" was an anagram of paintover.net)
Here's the solve to the pic I posted:
(ah, this isn't a working link, but I'm not sure how to unlink it...)
http://www.theaquapolis.com/urchin/carelessly. *
(where * is all sorts of file extensions)
Aqua (watery stuff, sea urchins) + policeman guy = aquapolis
urchin because of the sea urchins in the background
Carelessly = missing word from the quote.
The quote is said by Cassius, so that was the username. The password was urchin.
(also, someone else needs to explain Oct. 1st now. The memories are still too painful. Aaaanndd now I've got stuck in my head, "I have a picture, taken so long ago...")

I still have nightmares. Rabbits and Skeletons chasing little girls. Except in the dream I have long hair and I'm pulling my hair.
If anyone wants to know what Oct 1st is all about you can refer to the original discussion , the giant puzzle thread , or the continuation of the puzzle thread with the final conclusion.. We even had to vote on whether we should go on with it or not..
Ah, the horror.

Maybe I should wear a Zorro mask during this thread, in order to keep from experiencing violence towards my person.
Meep. Steve, do you still have my back?

And just to rub it in, the title on the www.lessonstolearn.net page is now 'eye see'.
Oh how I laughed.
Muffin glares at Zorro and her mocking avatar!
does anyone have a list of extensions? can't remember them off the top of my head... (did search but was distracted by symbols)
The original picture had Blockobats font in - have had a look but I don't think its the same, ergo we either crypto it, or find the font!
