[INFO] [PUZZLE] ilovebees.com is NOT IN TEXAS

I've seen a lot of people trying to work through the meaning of coordinate puzzle who are erroneously using the "fact" that the ilovebees.com server is in Texas and there are no coordinates in Texas.

This is A RED HERRING. It's true that the ilovebees.com IP address is registered to Rackspace administrative office in Texas, as you can see here:

Code:

%whois 69.20.126.147 @whois.arin.net

OrgName:    Rackspace.com
OrgID:      RSPC
Address:    112 E. Pecan St.
Address:    Suite 600
City:       San Antonio
StateProv:  TX
PostalCode: 78205
Country:    US

However, the ilovebees.com server is actually in Rackspace's WASHINGTON, D.C.-area datacenter (probably actually in Virginia), not in Texas, as you can see by this traceroute:

Code:

%/usr/sbin/traceroute www.ilovebees.com

traceroute to www.ilovebees.com (69.20.126.147), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
...snip...
13  0.so-7-0-0.GW6.DCA6.ALTER.NET (152.63.41.225)  38.897 ms  38.259 ms  38.030 ms
14  * * *
15  vlan903.core3.iad1.rackspace.com (69.20.1.40)  39.859 ms  37.948 ms  42.503 ms
16  aggr109a.iad1.rackspace.com (69.20.3.39)  39.494 ms  43.744 ms  38.530 ms

(DCA is alter.net's city code for Washington, D.C., and an alter.net router with DCA in its domain name is the last hop on the public Internet before going into a Rackspace network.)

This information has been posted here on the Wiki since July 27th.

There may be still be some significance to a lack of coordinates in Texas, but it's not because of ilovebees.com's physical server location - there is no question that the server that ilovebees.com "lives on" is in the metro-DC area.

EDIT: Moved to general. --AnthraX101

more info

Sorry, I know it's bad form to respond to your own post, but I thought I'd provide a little more info on network naming conventions for backbone/network providers.

Usually, somewhere in a router's domain name will be the 3-letter airport code for the nearest airport. (This is done for convenience's sake when troubleshooting.)

The last hop on the public Internet on the traceroute above is a router with "DCA" in its domain name. The first Rackspace device in the traceroute has a domain name with "IAD" in it.

DCA is the 3-letter airport code for Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C., and IAD is the 3-letter airport code for Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. The Rackspace.com website says they have a datacenter in Virginia, probably in a suburb of Washington.

Sorry if my first post didn't make it clear why it is 100% certain that the ilovebees.com server is in the metro D.C. area.

Respectfully redirecting the topic of the server's location to this thread, where people seem to be discussing it already.

Locky! ?

This thread pre-dates the thread that you want the mods to redirect people to.

Indisputably true. However, there was/is discussion going on in the other thread, and no one but you had posted in this one. Hey, if you don't want to post this information over there, you certainly don't have to. I think it's a good point, for those who believe the location of the Rackspace server is significant. Dunno
