Hey, I may not get lots of kills, but I am good for distraction!

You know what makes you all a lot less intimidating? Imagining that behind each shiny helmet visor, there is a crackly green mud mask on your face cleaning out your pores and scenting your environment with a touch of mint.

Who needs a mud mask? Apparently I am so evil that my skin is crackly and green.

Hey krystyn, you know that surprize...

Boston Subway Tunnel Tours

I'll have my camera with me, so I'll make sure to take pics and post them on the forums. I know it's not quite the same thing, but better than nothing, right?

Can I have some of what you've been drinking? Laughing

And, like I said, I just said that as a lame atempt to convince Yum-Yum to join us! As usual, the means justifies the ends.

Yum-Yum, use a 2 month-trial to create a throw-away gamertag, so you can keep your privacy afterwards. Maybe you even decide to stick around! Cool

It's the touch of mint that really provides the extra edge. Can your evil aura claim that? I THINK NOT!!!

I was right!

Have you people ever been to Oklahoma?...

Oklahoma is basically exactly like colorado...

only without the skiing and bronco games.

Yeah, I'd rather live in Colorado, lol. Perhaps thats why you had 98 kills yesterday!!!!!

edit: I agree, yum-yum, you should get on the next Halo2 training match we have. I was there to help and actually ended up picking up some tips that really helped my game improve. It was a blast. I don't think I could play with a better group of people.

Tis true, having nothing but plains and teepees as far as the eye can see is helpful if you desire to obtain my level of sneak-y-ness...

Ah, well. I'll be there in spirit. (My spirit will be the one asking obnoxious questions and knocking things over accidentally.)

Well, I was going to leave it up to Avatrix to post the write-up, but I'll take a crack at it.

The evening started at the Copley T stop, where I met up with Team Chowda (Avatrix, MacDuff, Iron Chef Mike, and Will, whose gamer nick I don't remember). We chatted for a few minutes, and were joined by Durga-extraordinaire, Kristen Rutherford.

After exchanging OMGWTFBBQ!!1!1!! for a few minutes, we walked down to an excellent Thai food restaurant on Newbury Street called Typhoon (I highly recommend it) while talking about various donut shops (Dunkin Donut vs. Krispy Kreme). Once at dinner, we chatted about ILB and our own experiences in the ARG world. In fact, we barraged Kristen with so many questions, we began to feel guilty that she wasn't eating. At the end of dinner, Team Chowda presented Kristen with a few tokens of appreciation, then we were off to meet Kristen's husband and her adorable puppy, whose name I also can't remember.

We hopped on the T (subway) at Kristen's request (she loves subways) and went to JP Licks, a local ice cream shop (or is it shoppe...). Yes, it was 45 degrees (7C for all of you Metric people), but we still ate the ice cream outside. We also got a glimpse at what Team Chowda called "The Guy on the Tricycle." Allegedly, he's a Boston staple, found all over the city at all times of the day and night. Creeeepy...

The night finished with a few photos and more pleasantry. I'm sure Team Chowda has the photos as they were their cameras.

It was definitely one of the best nights of my life, and I even woke up the next morning grinning like the Cheshire Cat. Kristen is incredibly warm, energetic and genuine, and I tank her profusely for taking the time to hang out with us.

Please, Team Chowda, feel free to weigh in and post the pictures!

Boston meetup

That was supposed to be my job, but I was avoiding it due to the forum trojan.

Myself, IronChefMike, MacDuff, Lou and Jennings all met up with Kristen by the Copley T stop. Introductions were made, then we decided to look for Thai food for dinner. We wandered a bit until we found a place that looked suitable. We bombarded her with questions (honestly, I can't sort/remember them all out in my head, because we talked with her for four hours, but let's see what I come up with), and had a good meal.

One thing I enjoyed hearing about was Kristen's interviews. She almost didn't even interview for it, cause it was a hike to get back home in time for it, and she didn't think it would be very big (42 wasn't really saying much about the details). Originally they had thought of using her for Jan, but eventually decided to try her for Durga/Melissa. They were going to have a different VA for the SP, but thought to ask her if she could do a child's voice. Her response to them was "call me back in 60 seconds." In that minute, she figured out the voice, and conducted the remainder of the interview (30 minutes) entirely as the SP. I take it they were suitably impressed (as I would have been).

Kristen told us a bunch about working with the other VA's, and it seems they've become quite good friends. Zan passed along some choice words to us about the Red Sox, but Kristen was too polite to repeat them exactly. She's looking at doing some work in Anime, since Yuri has been doing that and enjoys it. She also told us a bunch about doing voice work in general, trying out for gigs, agents, her hobbies (which we promised not to reveal until she's ready to be bombarded with questions about them--I'm sure you'll find out soon enough). No, she doesn't know who Aiden is either--he's probably not going to be revealed. At first the VA's didn't think they'd get any credits for their work, which is why there are a few easter eggs in the DVDs, as hints to who they were.

Team Chowda was happy to explain what was happening on our end when we got the "Enemy of Mankind" question, and she also explained where it came from. Before each call, the 42 team would make sure she had something suitably interesting to talk about/make us do. For example, that day, Sean and Elan wanted a human pyramid, which is why we ended up having to take that picture (I'll try to remember to post that, with the evening's pictures, later). She came up with the peanut butter just 30 seconds before our call though. Sounded like they were having a blast with the process, though.

Team Chowda had a few presents for Kristen, too. We wrapped one box with jars of crunchy and smooth peanut butter. Another box had two hippos, one stuffed and one a little figurine. She flipped out for those. Jennings gave her an awesome jar of honey with a custom made beekeeper label. MacDuff had made a paper-mache beehive with the first chapter of the audio files transcribed on the strips of paper, and a giant bee affixed atop it. (I don't know how she managed to get that home from Boston).

When we finished dinner, Kristen dropped her presents off at the hotel, we met up quickly with her husband (who was having a drink with co-workers and couldn't come with us), and then headed for ice cream. What kind of ice cream? Pumpkin! J.P. Licks on Newbury St., which is amazingly good stuff. It wasn't a long walk, but Kristen really wanted to see the Boston subway, so we took it one stop. It was a cold night out, but that didn't stop us from the ice cream. We heard about Kristen's remaining plans for the weekend (she was very excited to get some tomato sausage from a place she knew outside the city). We took a few photos (which I still need to post), and then let her go. I was amazed she had so much energy and kept up with us the whole time. As I'm sure you all expect, she's energetic, brilliant, and a lot of fun to hang out with. The DC crew is going to have a lot of fun meeting her come XMas time.

Links to pics will hopefully happen soon.

Gah, how I miss the T. The DC subway doesn't compare.

Sounds like an excellent time, guys! Hopefully our meetup in DC will go just as well. I know we're all VERY excited down here to meet her finally. Thanks for posting that.
