[Halo 2] Updated Playlists - Info from Bungie

Don't know if you guys saw this or if somebody already posted this somewhere, so trout me if necessary. But here it goes, from Bungie:
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=1188437

Quote:
Before we take off for Thanksgiving vacation, I wanted to give everyone a quick heads up about the status of our first Xbox Live Matchmaking Playlist update. We've been watching closely and listening to all of the feedback you've been sharing with us. I'm happy to say that we've made some significant updates to the existing playlists as well as creating two brand new playlists.

Overhauling every playlist and creating two new ones is a major task and is not something to be taken lightly. Our primary goal is to ensure that the release gets adequate testing before we unleash it to the world. With this being our first post-release playlist change, we are taking extra precautions to make sure everything works as planned. Pushing out the new playlists before Thanksgiving would have been ideal, but the risks of cutting our testing time are too great.

For now, we ask that you please be patient with us and hold on for a just a little while longer. We are optimistic that our playlist updates will be ready to release shortly after the Thanksgiving break.

Here's a little glimpse of what's coming (subject to change)-

All team slayer playlist - You wanted it.You've got it. All team slayer, all the time. (perhaps this week will be a good time to get your last great games of CTF in as it seems the vast majority of players will abandon these objective games once and for all when given the chance. -sniff- ) The existing Tam Skirmish playlist will be only objective games - primarily CTF and Assault with a small sprinkling of Team Ball, Team King and Territories.

Unranked FFA playlist - play Slayer and a few other Rumble Pit games with guests and parties of up to 8. Let the good times roll.

Major Clan Match- party size limit changed from minimum 5 to max 8. Also, the team imbalance has been changed to one from two. (so no more 6 vs. 8 games)

Big Team Battle - we've upped the max party size to a full 8.

Variety - we've gone through and adjusted the weighting and offerings in every playlist to make sure more maps and more gametypes get some loving. Foundation has also been added to the playlists where it makes sense.

We'll have much more to say about this as soon as the release is ready to go. In the meantime, thanks for your feedback and have a great Thanksgiving break. We'll see you online!

This is just awesome! Team slayer, finally!! And Big Team Battle with party of 8 guys! Just perfect!

glad to see they're listening to the players!

I'm also surprised that most people would abandon CTF and such given the chance. Granted I hate assault for the most part, but CTF is my absolute favorite mode. It's the one where teamwork probably matters most.

I like that team slayer is on matchmaking, but I'll still play the various objective-oriented team games when teamed with my Beekeeper pals, since we tend to work well together and take care of our people a bit more.

I really don't like slayer games that much. I'd rather play CTF any day.

Well, most people would abandon cause they are tired of playing assault/CTF all the time! Some will come back to CTF/Assault after hours and hours of team slayer and everybody will live happily ever after! Cool

Oh, and I think assault requires a lot of teamwork as well! The timer to activate the bomb is crucial, since even if you kill all the oponents, they will respawn nearby and they'll be coming for you!

ick, i really preffer CTF and other team orented games. team slayer is just like non team slayer only you dont (usualy) get to kill half the players on the field. I think that it is fun for some gamer tyeps but it limits those who enjoy more of the stratagy and team work. I would preffer it if Bungie kept useing their ideas for the game. I dont want to see one small pit with rockets and swords that we are all forced to play in for the joy of some 11 year old fanboy.

man, Bungie was right on the money when they said that Halo 2 would be groundbreaking for online multiplayer... I'd say they definitely spent the right amount of time developing this whole Xbox Live aspect to Halo 2... very very impressive... I even had a strong PC gamer say that they think Halo 2's online component (the process and theory behind it) is much better than any online PC game... (that's not referring to gameplay, just the process that gets you there)

Am I the only one that, once in a while, likes to just relax and kill people for a while? Laughing

Usually, it's like that. But there can be strategy on team slayer games. Sure, not as much as a CTF/Assault, but you can have some strategy involved!

Well, we're not forced to do this. They are adding this, not replacing the team skirmish. More options = good!

I love strategy games, even though I still consider them my weak point. But one thing I don't like about strategy games, is that there are just too many "suicides rushes", because dieing is not always a big problem! And sometimes, I like to team up with 2-3 guys and just wander together killing people! You have to work together to minimize your deaths, so there's some teamwork involved! And it's nice for a change!

I don't see why you could hate Assault. In CTF you go into the enemy base grab a thing and drag it to your base. In Assault you go to your base grab a thing and take it to the enemy's base. Pretty much the same concept. Of course you would have to adjust your team's strategy a little.

Perhaps you just haven't found the right strategy (or team) yet. Smile

And one thing I prefer Assault over CTF is that there's no rounds. You can be attacking and then suddenly have to adjust and start defending because you lost the bomb! Bomb possession is important! I guess I like them both!

Also the best thing about CTF and Assault is that you can beat someone down with the flag as they are trying to kill you for it. side note, does planting the flag in someones head when dropping down from above do more dammage? i have done this twice and killed them in one hit. which was very nice Twisted Evil

If you are coming from a high angle above, the game will count it as a back-of-the-head hit, which of course, is autokill.

well let me rephrase my feelings on assault. I don't hate it exactly, instead I'm burned out on it after Live assigned it to me too many times in a row.

By far my favorite part of the update is the ability to have up to 8 people in your party and still be able to join a matchmade game... There are just certain nights I enjoy bashing random people with a few buddies, but it really sucks when you have a party that would do really well together, but it's made up of 6 people...
