make sure to ask her about the dvd issue Smile

at least, it would be interesting to know if they're still checking 'Dana's email...

Also, be sure to tell us how it went... If you get grabbed by any DVD pirates or such.

we need not revolve on this one oppertunity.

I propose that we try to meet up and spend a day on the town to chat and chill with each other.
Up for it?

absolutely!
especially after (from what i've heard anyway) the disasterous training event, a northeast area beekeeper meetup would rock

is NYC cool for everyone? or is there a more central location?

well see for those of who can't casually make it out, having a big special event would give more reason, or excuse, to go... I can't just head down to NYC to chat over a cup of coffee any time I want... but if I know there's a big event coming up with a whole bunch of stuff, then I can try to plan for it...

precisely, i think it would be better for everyone if we had at least a week to clear schedules (which is TOUGH this time of year)

well, where do you live?
I am sure someone can pick you up if you are en-route, and if not public transit into the city isn't that expensive at all. In fact after teh nightmare of an experience to get into the city for the training event, I WILL NEVER EVER EVER drive into the city again.

(scary from that night, come in via the lincon tunnel, and after crossing the GWB a few times, driving about 40 miles round on the NJTNPK, I finally got seriously scary lost right outside yankee stadium in the bronx.
Bad yet? well I wear a bandana over my forehead to cover a large "harry Potter" scar i recieved from a horrible accident in march [many of you by now have heard the story on live already]
So I am blaring music, windows down, doors unlocked a big colorfull bandana on my head, in a dark alley with a cliche' looking abandoned building in the background, no one else in site...
I ripped that thing off my head, rolled up the windows, locked the doors, and simultaniously floored the car... *CRAP!* Pothole the size of my car! did I lose a plate? *NO TIME! DRIVE!*)

Anywho, I plan to drive as far north as troy, or kingston NY to pick up People, We will park in Middletown, and ride the train into the city.
Lemme know who and where you are, if you want a ride.

As far as when. Perhaps there is an event non-ilb related we can seek?
Or mabey we can try and get Zan the man to crawl out of NJ to meet the adoring fans?

well, considering he lives waaaaaaaaaaaay over on the other side of new york state, thebruce isn't exactly "on the way" for you Sad I'm imagining that there's a stronger concentration of us near NYC than anywhere else in this region, but as your experience shows us, NYC can be scary to get in to
is there somewhere outside the city itself? a mall maybe, or a Dave & Buster's? (gaming, beer, and food, PERFECT!)

hey bagsbee, if you're still reading this, why not change the topic name to "Northeast Beekeeper meetup"?

There's always the Palisades Center in Nyack. 30 mins from the City. Big freakin' mall with over half-a-dozen restaurants (including a Dave & Buster's), multiplex theater and IMAX theater, and, of course, lots and lots of stores. How big is it? There's a ferris wheel in the food court.

Meeting with Jane

Sorry I meant to post this a couple days ago but got busy with the holidays and such...

Was originally supposed to meet up with Jane and Kiyash around 6pm, they were going to attend a discussion on "Media Performance Gaming" at Pace U at 7pm and invited me to come along. It was raining cats and dogs and they were running late, so they asked if we could just meet at the discussion and chat a bit.

Met Jane and Kiyash a few minutes before it started, chatted a bit, and picked Kiyash's brain as to what it entailed to be an Axon Scout. I must say I don't envy the job he did at all, sounded like loads of work. And yes, I was able to confirm that, after the first wave of Axons, they tried as much as possible to find phones near to where the players were, which we sorta knew but hadn't verified.

Anyway...at the discussion were members of Blast Theory and Eric Zimmerman from Gamelab, among others. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, for some reason I thought it was going to be some stuffy academic discussion about games, but it turned out to be an informal Q&A session between the panel and the audience, plus some demos of a few of the games Blast Theory had run in the past few years. While not ARGs, they certainly had ARG-ish elements (check out "Uncle Roy All Around You" at Blast Theory's site). A lot of the discussion was about Immersion in gaming, I'm sure many of you would've found it fascinating, I certainly did. One of the questions that came up was, "What if we could have a game with not just a few dozen or even a hundred players, but thousands of players, both online and having real-world interaction?" Both Jane and I smiled and gave each other that knowing glance Wink

After the discussion, a large group of us (including the panel speakers) went out for drinks, I cannot describe to you how cool it was. Initially I felt like sort of the outsider, since they were all creators and innovators of alternative gaming (according to Jane, some of the "heavy hitters" the the alternative gaming world) but after Jane introduced me to her colleagues as "one of her star players", they were very interested in knowing my experiences from the other side, as it were. It was a very eclectic and interesting group of folks.

After a couple drinks and some stimulating discussion, Jane and I bonded a bit. It's a testament to how incredibly cool the ARG genre is, that the game creators actively seek out and want to bond with players of their games. How many game genres can make that claim? Cool

Overall a very enjoyable evening, I wish more people could've come.

Regarding a NYC Beekeepers gathering....I'm certainly down. I live in Queens so it's no problem for me Razz Also, it's looking more and more like ARGFest-O-Con IV will be held in NYC, probably in July 2005, so bee on the lookout for that.

Actually there was a video guy there filming the discussion, it's entirely possible that it may be posted online somewhere. I can look into it if you're interested.
