URU Live: Ages Beyond Myst

Hey, if there's anyone on these forums playing URU Live, the realtime online Myst sequel, it might be fun to set up an Unfiction neighborhood.

If you're a Myst fan and haven't checked this out, I highly recommend it. The latest Myst game, Uru, is absolutely stunning, and the live multiplayer version which is in an open beta 'prologue' right now, could be really really great, although time will tell.

Anyway, FWIW. If you're playing or are planning on checking things out, reply here and I'll set up an unfiction neighborhood where everyone can meet and collaborate on stuff, not to mention taking group pictures and throwing nacho parties.

Get more info here.

persuade me

I have URU, installed it, but haven't even begun to play. I didn't intend to bother with the online portion, preferring the original Myst experience.

If you can tell me what the online game might offer (beyond another chatroom-with-avatars waste of time), then I might like to join your neighborhood. I would probably prefer a fixed window of time when everyone would be able to assemble.

I'll take suggestions for my game persona nick...

Well, I do know it'll be more than just another chatroom with avatars, heh.

Not being a spokesperson or anything, as far as I can tell, the emphasis will continue to be on exploration and puzzle solving, as in all of the previous games, with the added twist of the game universe being constantly built upon, and you can explore and solve puzzles cooperatively in real time. I would guess that there will be puzzles that will need more than one person present to solve.

For me right now, I'm just enjoying the immersion, as with all the previous games. Turn off the lights, pop on the headphones and get the crap scared out of you when a family member taps you on the shoulder to tell you they're going to bed, don't stay up too long, lol.

The LIVE version is in open beta right now, so things are still a little buggy and laggy at times, but they are slowly opening up new areas and developing backstory. I must admit too, that interacting with other players when I want to has been more fun than I thought it would be.

I LOVE the Myst experience, but my schedule these days doesn't allow me to commit to something real time with specific windows to meet and chat. I'd definitely lurk in an unfiction neighborhood if it were set up, but if you need someone to be there a lot, it's not me.

walking the walk

Just hearing the rinky-tinky music as the Cyan logo came into view game me goose bumps. :-)))

So, it took me a while to get my T-shirt color *just* right, but I finally have an avatar and have begun to play the offline game.

And I am breathless as I cross the open field...

I'm told that I can enter the online world at any time now, but might run the risk of hearing spoilers for the game's puzzles if I interact with anyone. I haven't yet tried to log on, but I see a selection of servers from which to choose -- will we all agree to meet on Achenar? Katran? Atrus? And will we recognize you, vpisteve, or have you chosen another name? (I went with catherwood, nothing original there.)

Let us know when you have set up our neighborhood! But for now, let me steal more time on the one decent computer in the house to find some puzzles on my own...

Have you had the "official invite" email yet? Until you get that you can't get in at all. If you have, and assuming it's consistent Wink then the "Play Uru live" option won't be active until you've logged in to your account through the starting menu. Confused the hell out of me till I realised what I was doing wrong... Once you log in to your account, it'll download a heap of stuff then you should be ready to go.

HTH

If anyone's in, list your KI number here, so we can all add each other to our buddy lists without having to be in the same place.

Again, the Unfiction Hood is on the Katran server. There's not many of us on yet, but it's early. Very Happy

My KI number is 00058382.

I've logged into my account, or so I thought. Where am I supposed to be starting from? I get the page where you need to enter the CD-key. ("NOTE: You must have an Uru™: Ages Beyond Myst® CD-key in order to create an Uru Live account.) I don't have the key so I can't create an account. I didn't see anyone else mention this, so I thought there was another way in.

Thanks

On my copy the CD key is on a sticker on the back of the Player's guide. It would have been nice if they'd done something to draw attention to it, like printing the words "CD Key:" in front of it or something... Rolling Eyes
