[FANSITES] Season 2 Lost show mysteries

I know that everyone here watches Lost, but have people seen this 'Genetic Mirror Theory' stuff that's been flying around the net in the last few hours? It's a theory that someone has posted on a Lost discussion board and claims that the plot of the series is based on a book by a dead French author, and that the numbers (you know which ones) are intimately tied into everything that happens.

An interesting discussion on it is at Metafilter.

As I mentioned in the thread, I think it's either a load of nonsense that some fan made up, or it's the trailhead to an ARG (actually, it's also possible that the series creators have gone mad and actually decided to use the theory, but I would hope not).

It smells distinctly ARG-like - a detailed, fascinating theory, posted by a newbie on a crowded discussion board, that points to a book that no-one can find. I would not be surprised if the book appears or someone claims to have seen it in a library and a chase ensues, etc etc. Frankly, I'm surprised there hasn't already been an ARG for Lost - if I wasn't otherwise occupied, I'd seriously consider running an unofficial one myself.

So, one to keep a close eye on...

It appears that those links no longer work. I get a "document contains no data" error.

Found a blog describing it:

There is a book (theory) called "Genetic Mirror Theory and other Natuarlly Occuring Phenomenon," by Marsille Roussau.

But then I found this:

Of course, seeing as how this book and author don't seem to actually exist, the possibility remains that this is just another fun goosechase by the ...

I've done some heavy research into it and come up with nothing. The guy said he would post further proof on the ABC lost forums on Saturday, but i've not been back to check Smile

[edit]

Yup, tis fake. Seems like a big scam to make himself famous, after all he was the one kicking off about people "taking credit for his theory".

It appears that site has been hacked by some group calling themselves SpyKidz. Oh well, maybe it'll be back soon.

I however found a couple other sites that might be of interest:

Season 2 Lost show mysteries

Hey folks,

Not sure if this is simply a site keeping things current with the shows, but in the last episode, apparently this company was mentioned, and the website is up, but only playing a flash anim. It sifts through a bunch of IP's then says access denied. I tried going through some of those IP's, but no pages exist for them to my knowledge. Also, the graphic has several octets from the I-Ching, and I recall some guru's here on that from the Beast, so I figured I'd post and see if anyone can come up with anything. Very Happy

Wow registered Jan 2003 and you've only got 2 posts? I admire faithful lurkers Smile

Too bad this one looks fake.. looking up the whois info says it's registered for a guy called Stefan Engblom... Googling him leads us to his university directory info, and personal website.

Nothing there shows any connection to the show.. The logo itself looks made up, decompiling the flash shows a bunch of random numbers supposed to represent IP's and no way into anything else on the site..

So I say hoax. I would like to conclude with a little something sung to the tune of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody:

I see a web site
Looks like it's fake
Scaramouch, scaramouch
Will you whois and tango
Fake domains and writings - very very frightening me
Let's go poker, Let's go poker,
Last call poker, Last call poker,
Let's go poker Figaro
In my canoooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

For those who haven't seen Season 2, I put this info in a spoiler.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
From tonight's episode, Orientation, they mentioned who put the hatch there and such.

Seems to be a site for the Hanso Foundation:
http://www.thehansofoundation.org

Go to the Active Projects menu and a few "lines" below the bottom link, there's a hidden link for the Dharma Initiative. Though it doesn't seem to do anything atm.

Here's what seems to be a legit site. Those who have seen tonight's episode will understand more than those who haven't.

http://www.thehansofoundation.org

Interesting. Can't get access to the programs. I tried contacting both publicrelations and prSPLATthehansofoundation.org but both bounced back.

In good ARG methodology. You can see "Dharma Initative" hidden at the bottom of the list of projects. All the projects subsequent pages is in the format "first letters.html" Meaning http://www.thehansofoundation.org/di.html should have given a project page for it. But of course it doesn't... Thats what makes the website quirky and intresting but not an ARG. Nothing to solve without them giving it to you.

Guys, can i make a humble request that the subject be tagged as Season 2! as in the UK season 1 is JUST AIRING Smile, dont want any nasty spoliers for UK peeps.

(only up to Ethan at the moment)

Also maybe this thread should be merged with the existing Lost website thread in timewasters?

moved to timewasters, but I kept it as a seperate thread for now since it is season 2

I used to have Vegas for video editing, but it doesnt work on my PC anymore. Anyone out there that can take a stab at isolating the chopped out parts of the Orientation vid to see if there is anything there?

Gotta love Locke, "We're gonna have to watch that again"
