Just rang Stephen and a real guy answered

I just rang Stephen's number, and a guy answered and said "Stephen speaking". I was gobsmacked, so I just said "er, I'm phoning about Jon Harker".

He said "You're too late mate, I've got to go," and hung up.

It was definitely a real dude though.

That's slightly encouraging - at least he knew what you were talking about after all this time. However, the fact that he cut you off suggests he no longer has a part to play in this. 'You're too late' could mean, 'you're too late, Jon's already croaked it,' or 'you're too late, this lead has been dead for months.' Who knows.....but there's no harm in texting him, I suppose. That way we'll find out if there's still something to be found out from him, and we won't be plaguing the poor bloke with phone calls if there isn't.

Thanks for following up the suggestion on the other thread. As far as next round of contact, I would suggest something like:

"Need Book of Stars. Must finish Jon's work. Do you have it?"

I would mention Jon's dead, but from the response, I think he already knew (which bids the question of how? - did Jon miss an "appointment" with him? did he read uF?.. is he with the S&S?.. S&S got to him.. he's next on the list? - if so, did he sign up and leave trails too?)

I'm of the opinion we can try for the BoS - angle instead of reward angle (for now). The symbol puzzle is probably solvable as it stands, but hoping that we find more clues going this way.

1) We find the missing clue to get the reward/puzzle
2) We find an alternate end to this (reward via non S&S?)

Sorry didn't see that other thread, but glad to see that other people are also going through the early clues to see if we've missed anything.

What strikes me is that this Stephen fella's number must be set up just for the game. It doesn't cost much to get a pay as you go phone, and it would make more sense than having some poor guy set up to receive loads of bizarre Jon Harker related calls.

I reckon that he's there to answer the phone now for a purpose. Maybe the right question or password means that he'll reply with something more meaningful than "You're too late mate". Or maybe it was an accident that he didn't have his voicemail on, and so he answered it.

It seems odd that he would be there answering phone calls if he was just an ordinary guy. Surely by now he would have ditched his phone or started answering by sobbing "LEAVE ME ALONE YOU BUNCH OF WEIRDOS!", since I can't possibly be the only person who's called him recently.

I tagged it into the other "rang Steven" thread.

Talking about other threads (not to plug it intentionally), I just watch for any thread that has a new update up the top - that way I don't miss anything. The other thread that I poked an 'old thought' was the "Begins where it ends" one (where what if the beginning of the sequence is where the sequence ends.. ie. after 15 of the Fib sequence)

I tried Stephen's phone number - it rang and then got to voicemail - pressing # prompted me to enter a pin but 122128 didn't work. i also tried 1366 and had no more luck. The message on his voicemail is still the same as it was back in Jan/Feb. so I would imagine it's possibly still in game.
I then tried to do the same thing with Jon's phone, but pressing hash just cuts the message and you get the beep to start leaving a message, so no pin there.
