What's that in the background? I tried /grate/ and /sewer/ .. no luck..

I'm unsure of the actual method for checking, but what about "great line" (grate line) or "firing line" (fire-ring line - the symbol sort of resembles the chinese element of "fire" with the yellow "ring" around it)

Hmm, I thought the circular symbol looked more like a 'no entry' symbol type thing. Also, has anyone checked for steg in the image, it looks pretty distorted in areas - but that could be effect...

To recap:

1) Quote by Vincent Van Gogh, missing the word 'line'.
2) Latin quote roughly translated as "Is truth when we consider thoroughly".
3) Symbols round the outside of the picture, in an unknown font.
4) A wood effigy of a man a la Blairwitch (is that a wicker man?).
5) A grate next to a kerb, some snow & with a yellow 'no entry' (IMHO) symbol on.

Okay. That helps not much.

I thought it was a 'don't' symbol, except it's sort of odd that it's yellow.

So, the Latin - is it sort of equivalent to "thinking it makes it true?" When we think it, it is true? Because that's all Matrixy.

(online Latin translators tell me that "cogitet" means he/she thinks (or will think, would think). Does the "nos" turn it into "we think?")

[edit] Oh, it turns out I have the original background saved. I didn't think I did, but yep. (apparently I just never delete anything, ever.) It was called "bg8x6.jpg," and it was, logically enough, 800x600. The new one is called "bg8+6.jpg," and it's 799x595. May or may not be completely irrelevant, but that '+' is funny.

[I need to stop editing] Ventimiglia has some awesome anagrams. I particularly like "main evil git." There's also "I'm vigilante!" and "I'm leaving it." Anyway, that word still confuses me, but anagrams make anything better.

the teeny font

I can't see the "lettering" distinctly, even with zooming in. I did isolate it and rotate the sides to be oriented the same as the top. IF you can see it, the first several characters of the left side and the top row are the same.

I know this goes against the Metacortechs grain as such a clue was never used in the original game, but the chalkboard on the left seems to contain a lot of not-erased-enough writings. In particular, there's a big grid and some tiny letters (o...m...o) at the bottom.

This is incomplete, but I'm posting this to maybe help someone else see what I think I see.
If the picture is turned so that the odd looking letters are on the bottom edge, they look like letters to me.
Starting at the right side of the picture..

top of of picture
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

I'm still working on it. Embarassed

catherwood... if you rotate your attachment pic; the one from a couple of posts above; 180 degrees, I think it's easier to see what I'm struggling to describe.

Yeah, I see it too. I'll play around with it, see if I can get the words to show up clearer.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On the top there appears to be something between "gods" and "something." Looks like "as" to me.

It looks like a fixed font to me, so the random dot on the really illegible one is probably a period.

Which, Google tells me, is a quote by Robert Frost. Hmm.. frost? Could be related to the snow on the grate? Otherwise all references say that the quote is related to "clarity" so that could be a password if the other elements to lead anywhere.. I think it's time to focus on the actual image and figure out what the folder name is...

est veritas ut cogitet nos

I see "ut" as being used alot like "in order that" or "so that" or "that we may".

For example, I get this:
est veritas ut nos cogitatio

When inputting this:
is truth that we think

Maybe "Truth is that we think"

Hi, all. I just learned about the Metacortechs revival yesterday. I am back for now, but am not sure how much time I can devote to this stuff. I am just sad that my first post to this topic is "I can't think of anything."

Is there a more common name for that Blair-Witch-stickman in the picture? I have tried just about everything I can think of, but have gotten nowhere.

I find my eyes drawn to the yellow "no" symbol that Krystyn mentioned, plus does it seem like there are some red and blue splotches in there, too? It is hard to tell if they are part of the original image (vidcap?) or if they were intentionally added.

This got me thinking: is the "no" referencing the stickman or the grate? I know, back in the day, there was a text adventure game that had a grating you could adventure through to visit underground caverns, but you could shortcut into the caverns without going through the grate by standing in the house at the beginning of the game and typing "xyzzy." It is doubtful that this is connected with MU (and does not seem to lead anywhere URL-wise), but I just thought it was worth a mention.

Okay, if I don't write this down here I will be able to see nothing else in this pic....it's creating a block, so I'll dump it.

I don't know if this means naught or not but I put these together:

"iframe name=poe" coupled with "Van Gogh" and the "stick man"......

And now I can see nothing but "Poe.Gogh.Stick" or "Pogo Stick".

Brian!!! Hi!

So, remember I mentioned the bg8+6.jpg thing? Well, I was playing with it, and observe:

I haven't been able to find others. They differ in the bottom part of the blackboard, where there are letters, as someone has already mentioned. They're sorta hard to make out, though. They seem to form all sorts of fun and relevant-ish anagrams, but I haven't gotten anything to work. Clicky here for a cropped pic I made of the three overlapping.

I can sort of make out:

I know....I'm stretching! But at least I'm off my PoGo!
