[Halo 2] Cancelling Live and renewal questions Right now, I'm using the 2 months free trial card from Halo2 for my Live subscription.
I'm going to Brazil for vacation on Dec 17th and I'll be back only on Jan 14th. So, I'm thinking about cancelling my Live subscription and renewing when I get back. I won't be able to connect at all, cause even if I take my xbox with me, my parents do not have broadband connection.
Does anyone know if I can keep my gamertag? Does anyone know what happens to my stats? I don't care much about levels, but I wouldn't want to lose most of my game stats! I like to browse through them, specially custom games. So, if cancelling means losing these stuff, I'll keep it active during my absence.
Thanks!

You know the answer: if you cancel, you'll have to start over.
Buy a 12 month subscription card before you leave. Activate it before you go. It will add 12 months to your current subscription. You'll be out the (almost) one month you're away, but that's only about $4 worth to keep all your stats and have it ready when you return. Besides, you just might find somebody in Brazil who has an XBox and broadband. You login to your Xbox Live account there, and you're good to go.

I'm not sure if you can just log in on someone elses xbox..I was reading some stuff on the xbox live site and you have to copy your account to a memory unit, then put that info on someone elses box, then copy it again when you leave, and put it back on your xbox..
Here's a link
I may be reading it wrong...but that's what I get out of it.

You're probably right, I guess I'm just a cheap bastard!
Chances of finding someone that has an xbox in Brazil is pretty slim! PS2 totally dominates down there ...
Chances of finding someone that has an xbox, has broadband and me actually finding some time to go there, considering all the places, friends and familly I want/need to visit, is like 1 in 23683!

I think you can use the account recover feature to use your account on somebody's else xbox. I actually thought I could use this feature to reactive my account after my vacation. Don't know what happens to my stats though.

I used account recovery to play Live over Thanksgiving on my brother's Xbox. Had to re-enter all my info like credit card and such, but it worked. Then I had to do the same thing when I returned to my own box. Kind of a pain overall, but not a huge deal.
My understanding is that if you cancel a subscription, that gamertag is gone forever. Could be wrong though.

If you are one of the 12 people in the world that own a memory card, you can take your xbox live with you to any xbox without all of that hassle.

I guess the memory card is good if at least someone has broadband and an xbox. Maybe you should plan to bring that Xbox with you, just in case. Then, all you need is broadband.

Even though I love to play with you guys and I'm actually afraid that when I come back from vacation, the whole Halo2 fever will be over, I'm not sure if taking my xbox with me would be a good idea! Don't know if I'll have time to play at all ...
Plus, let's face the facts! One thing PS2 fanboys are correct is that the Xbox is a freaking brick!!

Heh actually I am one of those 12... with my xbox threatening to die any day now I wanted to back up important saves. How do I go about saving the live profile or whatever it is to the card?

You might need to ask the other 11 people!
Seriously, I think you can do this on the dashboard, on the memory tab. I never used a memory card, but I know your Live account is saved there, just like a regular save for a game.

Bla. It's been so long since I got on live (I was a beta tester). Okay, let me dust off some brain cells and see if i remeber. I think you can do it directly from the dashboard. Look at the memory management stuff and the option to copy to the mem card should be enabled. Most game saves are too large to be copied. And a few (like Ninja Gaiden) will not move at all. Sorry I can't be of more direct assistance. But I KNOW it can be done. Now if your xbox is dying, then you'll need to restore your account anyway.

Tecmo for whatever reason does not allow ANY of their game's saves to be moved.
Probably to avoid DOA Volleyball hacks. :p
