SPEC: More on Ong's Hat/game Connection

It's been hard to judge where the two of these join and separate (at least for me). I have always assumed that the whole story of Ong's Hat was to lay the groundwork for the game. The early links seemed to just go to out of game sites.

I finally took some time to through the site brought up from the On'g Hat book on Wes's site and follow around on it. When you click on the free preview in E-book format you are then directed to this page:

http://www.incunabula.org/resources.html

Others must have noticed this, but I didn't see any mention of it, but why is the trunk on that page with a link back to Hollow Needle? Is this then in game, or did they pick up on it and add it to their site? I'm lost on this now.

Good question. I'm on the fence about this site as well, but now leaning more towards "it's an existing site that's being drawn into the game either by the PMs or by a player." If you check out the blog page, you'll find a couple of different posts in there that also include links to the same antiques page. I think it's definitely worth keeping an eye on, and probably important to take another good look at that antiques page too.

They probably picked it up and added it to their site.

The Ong's Hat people like games. Ong's hat was originally almost an immersive game. It was a hoax and a social experiment.

From http://www.darkplanetonline.com/whatreally.html (be sure to read the rest of it also)

Description of Ong's Hat experiment:
Create a interactive medium that immerses the public in an addictive, tantalizing story but keep the content restricted to certain personality types. Reveal concepts and ideas that generally represent your beliefs.

Now doesn't that sound familiar?

Ong's Hat enthusiasts played characters, posted on the message board, got into lots of fights, and speculated on the plausibility of interdimensional travel.

It all went down here: http://pub36.ezboard.com/fdarkplanet76000frm10

The http://www.incunabula.org/resources.html page includes a link to http://www.aglauranj.org/antiques.html with a picture of the trunk from the shop! If this is common knowlage, I'm sorry.

I think the next part is just a strange coincidence, but if you go to the eggroom, there are a large number of circles and spheres on the page.
From there go to the HumanKind Media Works site, http://members.shaw.ca/humankindmedia, which is in the lower right hand part of the page. More circles!!!! Click on Web Design link, http://members.shaw.ca/humankindmedia/web.html, and then the link to http://members.shaw.ca/humankindmedia/betasite.html. That page is full of more circles and spheres.

I'm sure the above is just a strange set of coincidence, but it had me going for a few minutes! I'm still very new to ARG, so forgive me if this is a waste of time.

I don't think it is a coincidence. As I posted to start, I don't think that the site may be in game, but I do believe it is meant to give us a background into the town and the story. As with the interaction, we are to assume we are interacting with real people. Thus, we also need to know the reality of the area which we are dealing with.

Moorish Orthodoxy and Ong's Hat

http://come.to/moorishorthodoxy

Wali Fard's ashram may have vanished, but there still
seems to be a substantial Moorish Orthodox presence in the
area.

Hakim Bey

Hakim Bey AKA Peter Lamborn Wilson, a member of the Moorish Orthodox Church, is thought to have written the original Incunabula material (book catalog and brochure).

Here's a link: http://www.geocities.com/moorishorthodoxchurch/HAKIMBEY.html

If you follow the link to STARE: incuBLOGula http://www.incunabula.org/blog/ the eye at the top looks very similar to the eyes in the floor plan at Sons of Don...http://www.sonsofdon.com/sodhome.html

May just be another coincidence though![/url]

The incublogula/stare page also has a nice six-fingered skeletal hand. don't know if y'all noticed that.

If you take the time to really delve into the myriad incunabula catalog and links, you will find a lot of references and images that are quite familiar at this point.
