[SPEC] Mortid Care

Just curious, but does
Quote:
Mortid Care has a state-of-the-art Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service
sound like Shock Therapy to anyone else?

Also, you can note on the site that they moved to a new building with a large research wing "on the same site" but they never mention closing to build it - which means they didn't raze the old building. Perhaps it would be worth investigating further?

ECT is most certainly shock therapy.
On a side note, I'm very excited the game has gone here. As a psychologist, maybe I can (for once) be of some help.

Quote:
Our Psychologists can analyze and sometimes even treat some of our Patient's disorders because of our newly organized one on one plan. This allows a patient to keep the same psychologist and doctor even if they are moved to a different part of the facility.

These lines seem very important, somehow...

The hospital has a doctor's login. We need to get access to that. Smile

Mind Control

Wow. I just did some digging at the Mordid Care site, and found an interesting passage in the "Links" section. I'm going to pull out a few relevant quotes:

Article on the use of technology in Physiological care
http://www.bethel.edu/~kisrob/hon301k/project/Final/mind_control.htm

Quote:
"A classified 1952 study by the US government's Psychological Strategy Board laid out an entire agenda for behavior-control research. Calling communist brainwashing 'a serious threat to mankind,' scientists urged that drugs, electric shock and other techniques be examined in 'clinical studiesÉdone in a remote situation'" (Budiansky, Goode, and Gest, 1994).

Interesting- Mordid care is equipped with a Electric Shock device.

Quote:
The most recent advancements have come from New York State University where a team of researchers has announced their ability to control a rat's brain through electrical impulses. "The five ratbots created for the experiment had three tiny probes implanted in their brains. One probeÉstimulates the reward or pleasure sensing area of the brain. The other two probes are in the areas that process signals from the whiskers, which tell rats when to turn" (Munro, 2002). Not only were the researchers able to guide the rats successfully through a maze of sorts, but they also have the ability to do so from a sizable distance, half a kilometer. While the scientists involved in the project claim that they have no intention of applying their technologies to humansÑ"'Humans?
Who said anything about humans? We work on rats.'" (The Future of Mind Control, 2002)Ñit stands fairly obvious that the possibility exists.

So we have information on contemporary mind control. A little spooky, but not too much to worry about yet. But this next quote is the kicker:

Quote:
Being that this paper is being constructed for a course with "truth" and the values associated with Christianity at its very core, it is essential to discuss the approach that the Christian community should utilize when evaluating the area of mind control both Biblically and philosophically.

One of the primary mandates related to one's life as a Christian is the absolute submission of that individual to God and His will for his/her life. In the midst of his Earthly ministry, Jesus Christ is recorded of reminding God's chosen people, the Jews, of the ultimate law that permeated the Torah and upon which all other laws were based, "É'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind'É" (Matthew 22:37, NKJV).

Jesus' purpose in making this statement was very clear and very deliberate. A true follower of God should have the Creator at the core of his/her very being, letting nothing else deter him/her. This, of course, includes the mind. The apostle Paul reiterates this sentiment in his epistle to the Romans, "The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace" (Romans 8:6, NIV). It is clear that God, speaking first through his son incarnate and through his follower, the apostle Paul, places a significant value upon the minds of his children. It is also evident that an inherent obligation of those who are true Christians is the allowance of God, or the Holy Spirit, to have total and utter control over one's mind. The prophet Isaiah reminds Israel of the benefits of placing God at the center of their minds, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Isaiah 26:3, NKJV).

This paper is written for a Christian class- providing a link between the church and the mind control facility. What if Mr. Upright Pastor Guy believes that by controlling the minds of everyone in town, he will be providing their souls to God? (and that's with a twisted, but good motive- he could just want to control their minds). The fact that this paper was linked to from a supposed Psychiatric facility also clicks in my mind. I'll be cross posting this over in IU, but I thought I'd post it here first.

Darn it - I knew it :)

I spent three hours hunting for Mortid and variations on the name after I saw them mentioned the first time but found nothing. Glad to know I was actually thinking along the right lines, since this is my first ARG.

Mortid Experimental treament

This is under Patient Care on the Mortid site:

The research scientists at the Mortid Center are making enormous strides in one of the most exciting technologies we have seen to date. A device which will give our doctors a window into the depths of the human mind. The technology has already been cleared for human testing and there have been very positive results among test subjects.

I'm betting there's mind control involved somewhere, which is part of the reason Anne's in an 'animalistic' state.

The PD report on Anne's state also mentions a 'smooth cut' on her left forearm, which I would take to mean a cut made by a cutting tool as opposed to being made by scratching a tree branch or similar. I wonder if we can get further details on her condition from Andrew, since he's visited her.

Don't feel bad, it wouldn't have done you any good to find it. When I got that first email mentioning it, I went on the hunt myself. I actually found the site, but it was dead, nothing there. I checked it daily with nothing to report. Then the police report came out, and suddenly it was live. Now if we could just see those pesky patient records....

Emailed Mortid about mind control

I sent the following email to mortid:

Quote:
Hello,

I was reading your website and one section really caught my attention:

"A device which will give our doctors a window into the depths of the
human mind. The technology has already been cleared for human testing
and there have been very positive results among test subjects."

Can you tell me more about this technological breakthrough? I am a
student of philosophy and computer science and I have always been
fascinated by anything that can give deeper insight into the workings
of the humand mind. I am convinced that with a deeper understanding
of the workings of the mind we can advance computer science with
Artificial Intelligence algotrithms.

Thanks in advance for any information (including past uses and success
stories) that you can provide.

Rand.

And I got the following reply:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Al'Thor

Thank you for your interest in the Mortid Care Facility. The device that you
are referring to in your letter is the Mortid Chip. I'm afraid that at the
moment I cannot go into greater detail than only to tell you its basic
function is to monitor and manipulate brainwave patterns. We are still in
preliminary testing stages, so any information regarding past procedures or
cases are held strictly confidential.

As for success stories, treatment involving the Chip is still in its
infancy, so only time will show just how effective it proves itself to be.
I can tell you that the progress demonstrated in our test subjects so far
has generated very encouraging results.

So they don't want to talk about it but the links page references an electronics site that may have been involved in the creation of the chips but I think it's a non-game site... Has anyone found out the names of any of the doctors there? We probably also need to find out if the pastor spends any time there for example ministering to the patients.

Wow, that is excellent. I think the possibility that they're using Mortid Care for research is highly likely. Although what the connection to the Black Magic books (and their theft) is is unknown. Perhaps the "research specimens" found for the brainwave manipulation (wow, they almost come right out and say mind control, don't they) are those persons who are caught snooping where they don't belong. Perhaps Anne was a witness to something she shouldn't have seen - men in dark cloaks in the forest or somesuch.

And we know that Marcus was looking into the book and the note Andrew gave him before he dissapeared. So if we ever get access to the mordid care website - we may find someone who fits Marcus's description. (What does marcus look like, anyways?)

Can someone who speaks with Andrew regularly find out if the Original Mortid building is still around, or if it was demolished when the new one was built.

And just to plant an idea - There are several mental health facilities near my hometown, and they each have a network of tunnels and other such things below ground. Perhaps when the old Mortid facility was demolished (if it was) the tunnels were left intact? (Andrew should probably be cautious, however, for if they catch him down there he'll probably end up as a robotic rat brain.)

I don't know if this is spec or trout or whatever...but wasn't there another ARG based around a company that claimed to have a device which could look into people's minds and project their dreams. I believe it may have even been Urban Hunt or one of those.

Is there possibly a connection or is this just a similar creepy idea being used?

Okay, time for some spec:

Let's say for a second that Mortid Care is researching a version of their chip that's not approved for testing on humans or animals. Or a version of the chip that they need to keep extra quiet. So they trap a bunch of local animals and test it out on them, planting the bodies in people's yards to make it look like a cult, then implant a chip in Anne's arm (the smooth cut) but she's resisting (the animal behavior). And the books? Okay, so I have no idea what the books or the Enochian or the Ardmur site are for.
Now that I've written it out, there are some major holes in my ideas.

On a side note, does anyone else feel like there are mulitple ARG's here?

The pastor and Mortid

Well i finally got a reply from Someone about Pastor and Mortid. He does volunteer there but only for "special cases". Posting the email i recieved from Mortid.

Quote:

Ms. ,

Personally I don't think it's that odd to have an abandoned building on the property. To be honest it's sort of an everyday thing driving by it in the morning on my way into the office. And from what I heard, kids are still kids. The place is apparently a pretty popular spot on the weekends, but we do have security around here for a reason, so it's generally kept under control.

From past to future, Mortid Care has come quite a long way. As for new innovations, we are constantly expanding our expertise in the field of the mind. On top of the care and treatment of our patients, the majority or our doctors also work in their off time in research and development of new technologies, though I'm not even sure myself what any of that may be. At Mortid Care we aim to treat any disorder we are presented with, which is a part of why people choose to come here for treatment. Not that we don't have any specialties but our goal is to be the best at everything we do.
The church is somewhat involved with Mortid and Pastor Hoffman likes to make an appearance every once and a while. We have our own counsellors on staff, though he does offer his advice in special cases.
