I have a problem with the shape of "the Cube" on ebay. It just isn't close enough to a true cube. Without even needing to measure it you can see that there are at least 3 very different lengths on the edges. I believe that if it was truly related the puppet masters would have done a better job creating the image. Having said that I will now recieve the full ire of whichever PM did actually make the image and be condemned forever. Wink

How can you sell a "wanted - the cube" on ebay? Would that mean the people bidding are saying they have one and are willing to sell it for $bid? Doesn't make sense.

sometimes people use ebay for purposes other than selling stuff, ie. to make announcements. i guess in that respect, having a "wanted" advert on ebay would be in the same vein as putting 'the cube' as an item in the firebox catalogue, even though the person is looking for it, not selling it. i'm still highly skeptical about the ebay thing though Confused

It's a good attitude to have; I have definite doubts about it as well. In my more open-ended classes (and so this can translate into other open-ended things, like ARGs), we've always been taught that the two most crucial attitudes are skepticism (we can't just accept everything that's ever been claimed!) and humility (when we have been proven wrong, we have to accept it graciously). Sorry for that tangent, but I thought it was pretty relevant.

I know what you're saying, Jay, and I'm trying to keep an open mind about the Ebay thing. On first glance, it just looks so blatantly faked, but then the more I look at it and the more I think about it, I just don't know. Especially with the realisation (that came as I was writing the previous reply) that it's in a very similar vein to the firebox catalogue. A part of me just really wants to believe its real cos it would be something new to pick over till early next year Laughing but I'm probably just over-thinking for 4.17am (why am I still up??)

Don't ebay normally take down 'frivolous' auctions like this one? How long it stays up might be a clue as to whether it's in or out of game. Maybe.

Okay, good, I didn't want to be misunderstood! It's good to doubt if it's real, because it is likely that it's fake.

On another note, what are you still doing awake?! You need to be awake and refreshed for this Wink

I'm going to bed now and it's only 11.25 pm here. High school calls

Goodnight, world, Hannah, and other UK-ites.

yeah they do, but it sometimes takes a while to get to each one, giving the many reports they must get of fake auctions. you're right in saying how long it stays up may be a clue, because obviously they may have some agreement with ebay, but then again, sometimes ebay might not get to a fake auction before it ends.

Haha, you have no idea how much useless info I have poured over on the internet since I first came across Project Syzygy, which means I have no concept of how much time has passed anymore. My dreams on the first night after I found out about it were all to do with 'finding something new' or finding someone related to it, crazy stuff Laughing
Yes, I really must go to sleep. Doesn't help that I've been abandoning an essay due for next Tuesday since I discovered all of this!

bidder

The bidder taytay1104 was involved with certain ebay auctions in an earlier ARG, unrelated to this one, called AWARE. At the time we surmised that taytay1104 was a name used by a character in that game named Marcus Thesburg. I sincerely doubt that this is in-game here at syzygy.

Also, I checked the Immersion Unlimited board and found that the original link to this auction was posted there by The Creator. I know someone in this thread asked who found it.

I hope you don't bring unchecked facts like that into a courtroom. A client would be upset.

Here is the Original post. And it was almost an hour until I thought it would be a good idea to make that its own thread for clarity. You know what clarity is?

And Taytay1104 is my ebay account. My daughter Taylor was born on Nov 4th 2003. I bid on it. And most people in the #syzygy chat room know about it. I have announced it a few times.

Not to mention, I have also claimed I believe this to be a likely fake. Your speculation is cute, but I am not Hi-jacking a game, and anyone of the moderators at IU can attest to that by IP tracking that poster. All of them have more posts here than they do there.[/quote]

huh?

I wasn't accusing anyone of anything. And I never assume that people are dishonest or involved in elaborate conspiracies. Life is too short to waste energy on that sort of thinking.

If you read what I wrote it was conveying a legitimate reason why I thought this particular item was out of game (one of the bidders was a character in another ARG which I have heard may be starting a second phase)-- the fact that you use that bidder name on ebay was unknown to me --and I was answering someone's question about who found it. As the thread you started for clarity didn't relate back to the original post, I didn't see it. Thanks for correcting that.

Well, it doesn't look like a real object... The proportions are wrong (There is no perspective tapering of the rear portion of the cube, which leads me to believe it is rendered on a PC) At least they could have made a physical object and then taken a photo (whether it be in-game or not!)
