NYC Folks Sound Off!

So, I'm in NYC for a few days from the 24th of Jan till the 28th, and was planning on meeting with a few ARGers one day during that time (likely Saturday 27) for Lunch or Dinner somewhere (perhaps a sushi place suggested by Rose). Whilst discussing the possibility with a few others, I thought "hey, why not turn this into a minimeet"

So, I'll post more info up here when I'm done itinerising stuff, for now just watch this space (and if you have any suggestions or preferences, speakup)

Hi Caro. So excited that you will be here. I've already alerted bagsbee and EGo, for a start.

My client's matters have been solved early (I am so good; OK and the opposition is stupid) - barring new clients with insurmountable obstacles, I'd love to make the run up to NYC for a CaroMeet. (And a show.) We still doing this? And tomtom, your incredibly tolerant father unit met many of us at the NYC ARGFest. Surely something can be worked out.

Woo. This could be great. I know a couple of fun but not too expensive restaurants in the Meat Packing District. Just give us some days and times!!

(Sorry I haven't been around, my son was ill all last week and this is my first day back on line.) Keep me posted.

Alright, sorry about the lack of communication, we spent the last week in Tobago, and the hotel we were at had no internet (awww what a shame hehe), so now we're in Trinidad which is our last port of call before NYC.

So Saturday 27 Jan is still a go for us, what suits everyone better, Dinner or Lunch? We're hoping to catch either Phantom or Chicago (or both) on B'way while we're there, and our nights for doing that are pinned down to Thursday night or Saturday night, depending on where time takes us (Wednesday night we're going to go do our Laundry NYC style at a laundromat heehee).

Vegas inhaled a buttload of our money, so not too expensive restaurants/cafes would be excellent Smile

Rose, I'll let you pick the venue, all I need is for it to be not too expensive to get to from Times square in a cab (or indeed, the subway!!!), and subway / taxi driver directions Smile and of course a time Smile We'll arrange ourselves around that!

And TomTom, if you get on your knees and beg, while explaining that I've come all the way from little old Middle Earth to see you, I'm sure your Dad wouldn't mind bringing you in or coming in on the train!!

WOOHOO I"m so excited!!!

According to Bri's script on IRC Rose hasn't been online since the 20th - is anyone else able to make an executive decision on when and where to meet tomorrow - We're busy in the Morning but will probably be hanging around midtown / uptown in the afternoon (I've got some ice skating to do and museums to see), and we're going to try and catch Chicago tomorrow night. Tomtom's getting in around 11ish I think, so lunchtime or something might be cool?

Maybe a group iceskating meet?

Do any locals have any ideas?

Hi!!!

Late morning to Mid-afternoon works for me, I can meet up as early as 11am. I might be willing to embarass myself on the skating rink. If you're talking about Wollman Rink in Central Park, that's walking distance to Museum Mile (5th Ave.) which includes the Metropolitan and Guggenheim, among many others. If you've never gone ice skating, I would recommend seeing the museums first, as ice skating can be quite a workout, even for a beginner.

I've been to the Met a million times, and I could go a million more Smile

We could meet at the Met, or for a twist we could meet in Times Square, and catch a cab and take the scenic route through the Upper West Side and cut through Central Park. PM me here or email me (bagsbee at that gmail thingy), we can swap contact info and coordinate.

Rock On

At 98th and Madison there are a couple good restaraunts that aren't too pricey. One Fish Two Fish does a pretty decent burger, and some good sea food style fare. Hanratty's is a nice sit down pub/bar/restaruant that's got some good buffalo wings and other meals-disguised-as-appetizers.

For the over-21 crowd, I'd recommend going across the park to 96th and Amsterdam to the Dive Bar a nice bar with a really friendly atmosphere and a huge selection of beers and drinks. If you can get seated around the pool table (which is sometimes covered) it's almost like having a private room.

If you're just wandering around the park, there's buggy rides at 5th Ave and Central Park south. (61st street), though the weather's a bit chilly to interest the natives in a romantic jaunt around the park. Of course walking north up 5th ave, like was suggested above, will take you past all the parks and hoity-toity buildings with the old New York architecture. I wouldn't recommend going past 100th street though.

Finally, one of my favorite places to wander is around 14th street and Union Square. That's down town, but it's got a lot of cool places that aren't on the tourist maps and the scenery makes for nice sight-seeing. One other cool place is in Chinatown, take Canal Street east and you can see the ramp for the Manhattan Bridge, one of the more unheralded of the Manhattan bridges (my favorite is the Whitestone). And, the vendors down there sell cheese-filled giant pretzels!

Oh yeah, we tried the wandering thing today - let's just say windchill's a b*tch, and there'll be none of that Smile

Ok so I'm quite keen on ice skating and pizza (perhaps pizza then ice skating?) One thing i"m not keen on, however, is the cold (and booyyy is it cold out there), what's the wind like up around Wollman Rink? I saw Rockefeller was really sheltered, and we've yet to go up the top, but we're going to save that for night time when we can get the lights.

(oh yeah, the Knicks pulled out all the stops for us tonight - what a great game to have seen! a blowout against the heat, 116 to 90 something)

So can anyone name a great pizza place near wollman rink?

Well, I'm going to bed. All I can say is that I'll probably be in NYC around 11:00. I'm fine with pizza and then ice skating. It'll be only my second or third time, so it's sure to be a blast. EVERYONE BE SURE TO BUNDLE UP! Cold really sucks. Call my cellular device tomorrow, Caro. I'm going to leave the number with Six. He said he's writing a script or something to give it to you.

G'night, and let's get this rolling! Fun fun fun!
