The stars that come up when the Hiding Room loads are those of the constellation Capricornus. Which, of course, is the constellation of Capricorn, which starts December 22nd.

You can check the similarities out at the wiki page;

Just to say there's no need to spoiler everything, especially if it's just spec or info anyone could dig out.

Only really need to spoil answers to puzzles, and things which other people might want to do themselves (as we're all here to play the game, so there's no use spoiling everything).

Church-Key is what bottle/can openers used to be called before pop-tops.
Seems ironic, a devil shaped church key.

Sorry everyone for all the trout and untrout postings. I didn't know the puzzles crossed threads.

This has nothing to do with a solve, but is some interesting info nonetheless (and a blinding piece of attention-to-detail-paying on their part). I own the same bottle opener as the one on the website. It's made by an Italian company called Alessi (who make beautiful kitchenware - http://www.alessi.it/), and the name of the product is "Diablo" Wink

The CD on top of the stereo is: UNKLE (as seen on the stereo display as UNKLESOUNDS)

Maybe related to this: After Dark 2004

[edited] Better link.
Please someone Trout me if this is too fishy.

Where are you getting that code from? I can't seem to find it any place in the apartment.

The username, initially, is Jon Harker. E-Mail is jonharkerSPLAThewalksamongus.com -- but then, password seems to be blank. All fairly obvious so far, but any clues about the password? I get the feeling we're overlooking something, maybe on the computer or lamp.

If you enter ANYTHING for the name and e-mail address, it tells you that you've got the wrong password. This leads me to believe while the e-mail address and name you spec is probably correct/close, we can't take it for granted that it is, unless I'm missing something here.

It's not in the apartment. It's from Inferno Cargo. You use the ID # taken from the business card and log into S+S. From there you can view his receipt if you have the password (fidelio - from the upstairs mirror). Once you have the Contract ID, you can get into Inferno Cargo and the access code according to this thread.

For anyone interested, here's a more direct link to the product page for the bottle opener: http://www.alessi.com/catalogo/oggetto/Diabolix/bottle%20opener/616

I think red would be the obvious choice! Twisted Evil

Mine's dark grey Smile
And it looks like I was a bit off with the name - it's Diabolix, not Diablo. Close though Wink

More on that CD... Brigid sold the CD on ebay two weeks ago to raise funds for the reward. She said a couple of interesting things about it:

- It was a promotional CD from the After Dark event where Jon and others sighted the man in black, recounted here.

- Tracks include "Apocalypse Now."

- She says it's never been played (not sure how this works in relation to a CGI animation of us playing it Confused

- It was a limited run CD (only 500 copies)...maybe the track really is supposed to say "exit" instead of "edit," and it's not a clue after all?

Hey, I don't know if this is out-of-bounds or not, so I'll spoiler it. I know that page source code and the like are usually in-game, so I took a look around thehidingroom's directories...if that's a no-no, then trout me.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Looking through the site's directories, you can see that there are no animation scenes for whatever's behind that door or in that book.

You can check out http://thehidingroom.com/newvideos/ and see a list of the various flash movies (though you can't play them without flash mx).

This leads me to believe that we can progress no further than we already have. I could be wrong, though...it all might just be in a different directory which I don't know the name of.

So far, I have found the following directory lists: /newvideos/ , /Sounds/ , /windows/ , and /icons/ .

So, I think we're waiting on more info or a site update before we can progress any further.

I would also like to know the bounds for doing things that would be considered out of bounds. I know viewing page source for html is a common tactic, but what about things like decompiling swf files, or using a packet sniffer to find directories, etc, etc. Can anyone guide me on it? I know brute forcing websites is a big no-no, but the rest I really have no idea on. Thanks!

WolfLord,

Regarding boundaries:
See the "Ten Commandments" on the bottom of this page:
http://www.unfiction.com/dev/tutorial/
Anyone have anything else they'd like to add?

On a different subject:
This may be irrelevant, but does anyone recognize the type of car thats on the print in the kitchen?

From http://diveintomark.org/archives/2003/12/04/infinite-hotel

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Quote:
"Answer: take the guest currently in room 1 and move him to room 2. Take the guest currently in room 2 and move him to room 4. The guest in room 3 gets bumped to room 6, and so forth. The guest in room N gets bumped to room 2 × N. Now take all the new guests and put them in the odd-numbered rooms that have just opened up."

Is that another Fibonacci series?

Another thing we can do while we wait, I guess, is to look at the room closer...looking for things like reflective surfaces to reveal more.

I think the magazine containing a picture of the man in black at the airfield is called "Sleaze." I don't really wanna google that, though Razz

I'm pretty sure the car in the poster is a VW Bug, judging by the size of the lamps and the curve of the metal.

I made some pics, but the forum doesn't seem to have an attach thingy.
