hey...this may be a very-very long shot....probably wont work.....

has anyone tried making a semacode of the number underneath the semacode on the postcard, and then combining both (the produced sema and the "stamp" sema) in a number of different ways and then decoding them. For example, AND and/or OR -ing the two semacodes....to see what happens...

Is it possible that these numbers could be in some way related to the numbers from the logfiles we got last update? That there's some sort of mathematical, err, trick, that you can do to get something out of them?

Unfortunately numbers aren't my forte :/

I asked if those numbers fit in the whole 'e' sequence a few posts above, and, apparently, they do not appear in the first 999 digits of e...
...but I'm not the resident mathematician Smile

Also, as far as I can tell, we have not found any new log in that directory so far (sigh).

Those of you with linux and the "beep" command can now join in the fun of realising that the numbers probably aren't the frequency of notes in a tune! Yay.

Code:
#!/bin/sh
beep -f 200 -n -f 200 -n -f 100 -n -f 500 -n -f 400
beep -f 500 -n -f 400 -n -f 800 -n -f 400 -n -f 800
beep -f 400 -n -f 800 -n -f 400 -n -f 600 -n -f 500
beep -f 100 -n -f 1   -n -f 1   -n -f 500 -n -f 1
beep -f 300 -n -f 200 -n -f 100 -n -f 500

sleep 1

beep -f 220 -n -f 150 -n -f 450 -n -f 480 -n -f 480
beep -f 480 -n -f 460 -n -f 510 -n -f 1   -n -f 500
beep -f 320 -n -f 150

Hannah put the numbers in as a ringtone, they don't seem to sound the same as my beep script though Confused ogg here

Nonetheless, a commandable effort, and a good idea !

Just looked at the back of the postcard, and is it just me, or could the black/white box on the back be the real puzzle in here? I scanned the thread, and didn't notice anyone paying attention to it, so I was wondering if anyone's looked at it.

Do you mean the semacode in the top-right corner? If so, they have been discussed in the thread....
...or am I missin some other black and white thingie?

Yeah, I just did Smile

the binary from the image:
01101000
01100101
01101100
01101100
01101100
01101111
01110111
01101111
01110010
01101100
01100100

gives us
helloworld

NOT-ing it:
10010111
10011010
10010011
10010011
10010011
10010000
10001000
10010000
10001101
10010011
10011011
01100100

give us
""""
(last char might be due to the end-of-line char at the end of my input.)

I used
http://nickciske.com/tools/binary.php
instead of writing my own, but it seems good.

Sure, we could now consider OR-ing the binary, AND-ing the binary, and the ever-pleasurable XOR-ing the binary.... but I think that since it gave us 'helloworld' as-is, it is unlikely it will give us something else when we transform it...

Good idea though!

Ahh, my first ever prog in C was Hello World. IMHO it's unlikely there's any more to this clue.

Tried splitting that long number up into numbers <=26, i.e. if the numbers were over 26 I took the single digits so the 84s became 8, 4 etc. Then mapped all that onto the alphabet. Sadly it just looks like gibberish:
VODEHDHDHDFEJECUE

Starting my number matrix from 0 instead of 1 (something I always forget to do when writing code) gave me WPEFOEOEOEGFKFDVF which looks equally unpromising. At least no-one else has to waste their time doing that Smile

However, I do think that it's some sort of fairly basic encryption method given the repeating 84s and 54s. I'll try frequency analysis and one or two other ideas I've got later this evening....

Also tried tracing the solution to the map but it doesn't seem to be anything.

Lastly, note the date (above the handwriting) is Nov 23rd - almost 3 weeks ago! Either the Hons have been wondering just when the hell one of these was finally gonna show up, or it might be some sort of clue (23112004), though I can't see what ATM.

right, has anyone multiplying the number by 2210 and try ascii then, in theory it should come into visible chars Smile

the number after this is: 489615521515107872112105150

I'm in work, can anyone ASCII this Smile

[edit: nope, naff all Sad]

[Edit: deleted the double post. Fi]
