Was that the Rough Guide to the DVC? I saw that the other day - funny that they've jumped on that bandwagon too, but it does look interesting. Problem is that it'd be prety hard to get to the bottom of some of the issues they deal with, because of all the religious secrecy surrounding them.

I read Digital Fortress a while ago too. Another good book with a complex and twisting storyline. There were, however, some *enourmous* inaccuracies regarding the technology they talk about, namely that the computers required to do what they speak of are not advanced enough (yet...). An ex of mine who works at GCHQ starts turning red in the face and muttering whenever I mention the book, entirely for that reason Wink

I myself think that number might either be nothing,
or be something in a series....as hinted by 'Picture #2' as 'title' of the postcard image. SO I'm waiting to see if anyone finds picture #1 or #3.

ok the stamped 24 digit

previous mention of chinese codes i have found this web resource http://chinesecode.no-ip.com/misc/four.php, breaking the 24 digit string into 6 groups of four digit's would allow us to encode this number into the chinese characters. however i have no meaning for the chinese charaters as yet.

Y'know, those of you trying to make Chinese characters out of this could always run a mod calculation on any numbers that fall outside the range of characters. Though why use Chinese? We've established that Sente is a Japanese word....

It means...
To have the tempo to choose where to play next ; to have the initiative.
Makes sense I suppose!

about that number: i just tried to encode the number as semacode, but got no results. then i did a little googling and came up with this page: http://www.pc-help.org/obscure.htm. it is kind of old, but has some nice methods of URL obscuration (is that a word?). maybe the number is somewhat of that kind?
mabe someone not as cryptographically challenged as myself could try out some of the methods described there....

Yep. I reckon it's just a mean trick being played on us by the PMs. Either that, or this game "Perplex City" is just a ruse to get us to try and crack insanely difficult maths problems in order to build a new super-cypher-codeulator for a top-secret Russian software company, operating from deepest Siberia. These mysterious "partners" are probably sipping their vodka and rubbing their hands with glee as we all scuttle around running the damn thing through all sorts of cracking scripts...

I tried a few things, but didn't get anywhere. There are a large number of ways that this "could" be a URL according to this site, but I doubt that it would be anything TOO obscure.

I'm still working on it. I believe that it is a set of 2-digit numbers ranging 00 to 51 (exactly twice the size of the alphabet), but I haven't had a eureka moment. The numbers seem very structured and very unlikely to be the result of randomness.
