Well, I've tried very hard not to post a reply demanding more information, but after feeling distracted at work for the best part of the day, I've changed my mind Smile

Jonas - this is a very cool find. I'm going to assume, for now, it's in-game. Not sure quite why I feel so sure about this when I instantly dismissed the ebay incident, but it seems more, umm, fitting.

There is some information which would be a great help to us.

1. The full text that was on the post card
2. Anything you can make out from the blacked out address - was something written underneath, or is it just black pen?
3. Any other text on the back or front of the card - be they a copyright notice or the name of the printers - we'll have it all thankyouverymuch Wink
4. An accurate description of the picture on the front, along with any notable features (a window count would also be grooovy)
5. Was it written by hand or printed?
6. What is the print quality of the postcard itself? Does it look like someone has bought a postcard and written it by hand, or do you think that the card has been published entirely for the purpose of writing and leaving somewhere (i.e. a piece of marketing literature).
7. A very thorough description of the stamp (if there is one) and the 2210 (was it printed or stamped on?). If it is a Semacode (which in a blurry way it could well be), perhaps you could get a closer picture of it, and we can use their site to try and decode it...

Hannah feel free to e-mail this to Jonas since you have his address and he's not registered on here (yet!)

Right, perhaps now I can get on with some work!

I too was taking a look at the light patterns, and looking closer, there are smaller breaks between the lights... it looks like every row starts with *3* lights, followed by likely 7 other columns - either a morse code routine or a binary routine... (I was looking for 8 columns, and found it interesting that there seem to be 7 individual columns on the right, and a group of 3 columns all with lights on on the left, which could be considered 1 column?)

from what I could tell, the pattern following each 3 on's goes something like this (but it's hard to tell which lights are on or off because of the blurring)

(grouped and separated the 3 columns on the left)
111 011
111 1001011
111 0111 *
111 0111 *
111 0111111 +
111 1101011
111 0111111 +
111 110011
111 0111 *
111 0011

draw note that the *'d lines seem the same and the +'d lines seem the same... but other on/off counts may be wrong... we need a clearer picture to be sure. here's the image:

righty-o, i've just emailled him with all the questions you asked about it. also said if he wanted to he could pass it on to me or one of the other users so it can be scanned in, but you never know, he might become obsessed with the game like the rest of us and scan it in himself when he gets back to norway Very Happy
btw: i was at glasgow airport this morning at 5.45am frantically looking round all the cafes/public seating areas/phones. nothing at all. nada Smile at least i have saying bye to my mum as an excuse for being there.

i'm really not seeing these buildings on the postcard to be honest.

Don't worry... it looks more like an amplifier dashboard (one of those things DJ's usually have in front of them) to me than a skyline...

Either way, I think those lights are more interesting than the scenery, since the postcard seems very blurry (regardless of the fact that the picture was taken via phone camera).

Well, what jibberish?
I mean, maybe it looks like jibberish, but if you run it through an additional decryption (ROT it for ex) it becomes something better?

unless it is usually considered bad form to chain encryptions one on top of the other in the same puzzle.

well don't take my binary results as the final word, I'm about 99% confident that if it is binary, some of the numbers may be wrong, in which case it just might jibberish, right now... but hopefully we're on the right track at least... *shrug*

One more q:
Is 'Perplex City Sleeps' the title/subject of the postcard, or is it in the hand-written text on its back?

How can we be certain that this isn't just a trailhead, or a method of publicity?

Although I really want to be in-game! But still, I would hate to think we are wasting our time.

Well if it is marketing created by the PMs, then we're interested, just not in purposeful frauds. It could give us a tiny plot snippet crucial to the story later Wink

If it is a publicity stunt, chances are it might be something like the perplexcity.com letter, if not though, its time to get excited! Very Happy

Ps: This is so cool - my first puzzle!

Ha, I hope your alterior motive didn't get in the way of saying goodbye Wink

Too bad nothing was found. I'm glad you looked, though!

Got a stack of cards with me

This is absolutely hilarious. While you all seem to have been pulsing over this one card for days, I've got a few of them in my possession... as of today, got them in Chapel Hill, NC, USA.
I have only just discovered Perplexcity this afternoon through a friend and have been hot on its trail ever since about 1 pm today... it's now 5.30 pm and I can tell you lots about this card.
On the front, there is a painting. You're right about the windows- they stick out and definitely *seem* to be binary code or something. Not so sure about them being jibberish- makes me think perhaps they want to lead you on and on and on because...
I flew all over the BACK side of the card and haven't deciphered anything yet. On the left-hand side is the note starting "my friends-" At the bottom is the authentic "Sente" signature, underneath it www.perplexcity.com upside-down. At the very bottom in small print the card reads: "Image on reverse: 'Perplex City Sleeps' (artist unknown), #02 in a series of postcards depicting the city at night. The full set is available from the Academy gift shop."
Ok, how convenient that the artist is "unknown", and where is "The Academy"?!
Moving on: The right side of the card gets trickier. Upper right, I'm sure you've all noticed 2210, then the black and white postage-stamp strange looking square. UNDERNEATH that square is a series of very very small numbers, which have had me wrapped up for quite a while!! The series is: 221545484848465100503215
Had to look long and hard and battle tiny text for that one. Any clue as to what THAT means?!
Now for the blackened text! Underneath "Mc, please expedite global release. S" are five lines of blackened text. I went all over my town today putting these under black light, red lens, green lens, backlighting them with high-powered opthalmologist's equipment- THE WORKS, and have decided that on this mass-produced, photo-copied card, the lines, comprised of small red and green dots (thanks to a high-powered lens...), are only there to mislead you. I think the windows on the front side in the painting are more....
Or perhaps it's all there for publicity and it means nothing yet!!!!
That is all I can gather from picking this card apart bit by bit all afternoon.
Good luck everyone, I'll be around! Smile
Kristen

Hiya, and welcome again!

If you could please scan or take a high resolution photo of the postcard on both sides, that would be brilliant.

And whereabouts exactly did you find the card?
